TGS06: The Other Side Of The Lens

We decided to hit up Cosplay Alley at the Makuhari Messe on the last day of Tokyo Game Show to see how the city's homely kids with sewing skills were faring.

We saw tons of Clouds and Dantes and "men" in schoolgirl outfits, but the lamest thing on display were the cyclopian virginal photographers loading up their 4 gig SD cards with enough wank material to last them through to the next Comiket. The TGS otaku take this whole thing very seriously—do NOT cut in line or they'll have your head.

I really have begun to worry for the welfare of these young ladies, but it's almost like they're asking to be stalked.

  • Shameless self-promotion, but if anyone is interested I took a few Cosplay pics and posted them on my website....well, I tried to take pictures of people taking pictures of cosplayers but didn't get as many as I'd have hoped. Whatever.

  • I understand wanting your girlfriend to do so me cosplay, but stalking?

Those guys are WAY too horny, lol.

  • Dude..when I first glanced at that photo I assumed those guys were press photographers or in some offical capacity. But obviously they are just fans brazenly photographing her. Thats...uncomfortable.

...said the guy who was creepily sneaking up from behind her while snapping creepy pictures.

  • Cosplay is a social institution in Japan. Why would you bother to stalk any of the Cosplayers at the TGS when equally hot cosplayers are available for photographing at any high school club festival twice a year? Not to mention the innumerable cosplay fan cons that happen throughout the year?

Cosplayers are protected by a social contract that means taking pictures of hot cosplayers isn't creepy - it's perfectly normal. It's the whole point, in fact, to show off your costume artistry and hot body. It really pulls the girls into the fandom, too! Girls like wearing cool clothing... who knew? :)

  • We cosplayers are a bit exhibitionist, we like being stalked by cameras, as long as camekos (camera guys) are respectfull enough to keep some distance.

  • So... Is she wearing a Cooking Mama costume, or what?
