I just received Tetris Tower 3D in the mail from Firebox.
The game plays a bit like Connect Four meets Tetris. It's evil, but I kinda like it. The object of the game is to try and get a solid line across to score a point. The game both tells you which piece you need to drop and how much time you have left.
The thing that makes it evil is that you quickly shift from trying to make solid lines to totally screwing over your opponent after you get in the lead. That and you can't tuck falling pieces under overhangs, which really messes with your mind if you're a long-time Tetris player.
I probably would buy something like this just for the kitsch, value so the fun gameplay is an added bonus. My only complaints are that the game doesn't have an off switch or a way to crank up the volume. Oh, and $50 seems a bit excessive.
Check out the video on the jump to see the game in action. Yes, I totally pwned my 5-year-old son.

Tristan didn't know what was coming to him.
That'll teach the little bastard.
You teach him about losing at early age, cause that life and he's going to see lots of it.
"You do-"
At least the kid isn't a sore loser but had fun.
Tristan did a good job at playing defense.I did not like this. If you can't slide pieces under the others like Tetris, they should change the shapes. Bad part is change the shapes you lose the Tetrisness[sic].They also could make the pieces with electrical contacts on the ends so that when you create a line, you complete a circuit then light up a point on the side the line was made. I am not sure that is possible but it is an idea.

I'm guessing Brian may got himself another free toy =P
THAT IS SO FLIPPIN COOl!
One good thing, I have never heard of Firebox before ,my inner child thanks you.
I haven't seen someone pimp their offspring this much since Kathy Lee Gifford.
Keep it up!
Thats pretty neat!
He's putting the shape in the wrong line! MOve over one, boy! MOVE OVER ONE!
Does this Tetris purposely attempt to screw you up by not bringing out the I tetromino when you need it the most, like it's video game iteration?
$50? I've had my Teris Tower game for a couple years now, and if I remember correctly, it was in the $5 bargain bin at one of those big cheap-o marts..
It's fun, but not as fun as the real thing [especially since most "Tetris physics" are more or less lost XD]
[come to think of it... most of my MegaMan loot is from the same cheap-o mart...]
Oy, *Tetris. Stupid keyboard XD
Firebox is awesome. But everything there seems a bit overpriced. But they do have great stuff.
I love how the song speeds up when you get towards the top. I may want to buy this myself.
So, it's Tetris, only now you have to keep up with a bag of easily-lost pieces?
Hmm. I'm torn. I probably would have loved this as a kid, but...
I play Tetris, I dream it, now I can touch it and eat it. Sweet.
Eh? Now you're getting non-videogame related stuff for free as well? Niiiiiice....
Thing looks like an edutainment toy. Nice going Crecente! Not cutting your son some slack! hahaha!
I love when you show clips of your kid playing games... he's adorable!
The concept of this 3D tetris really excited me, but I found it to seem kind of blah in reality.
@NovaGreensocks:
Please introduce me to your cheap-o mart so that I, too, may acquire Tetris Tower 3D and Megaman stuff for cheap.
@1SwtDeception:
I would not recommend eating this... Though, wasn't there some sort of Tetris-branded food item a while back (cereal? Fruit snacks? I forget...)? Maybe you could hunt down one of those... But then again, I don't know if it'd still be safe to eat...
Mental note: Firebox, not Firefox...
Did anyone else read the product description?
"This whole videogame-come-to-life vibe is as entertaining as it is surreal. It's like being able to stroke a Space Invader or fondle Pac-Man."
Tetris, sure, but stroking a Space Invader or worse, fondling Pac-Man? Allllrighty then.

that's an interesting toy, but i, too, would prefer a version where you could move the pieces at the last possible moment to sneak in those one-liners. props for effort, though.
I wont lie to you,I want that game so bad.I always wonder how a real tetris game would be like,well now i know the answer.Is this going to be avalible everywhere?.
wicked graphics!
In other news, Crecente's son is still fecking adorable. You need to stop shooting him full of Cute Steroids, my friend.
@BPMΩ:
Big Lots, or Odd Lots. They've [currently] got more MegaMan stuff than I could ever wish to cram in my car XD
We've also got a local store called "Deal$" It's basically a dollar store. Well, a "Everything's $5 or under" store. Anyway, they've got oodles of little MegaMan, Bass, ProtoMan, and a couple Robot Master toys for $1 each. I bought 15 last time I was there XD;;
That's pretty cool. Wouldn't mind having this for work.
I'd totally buy that.
If I had money... and a son... and an income... and a store that sells one...
$50 for a something I can share with my son is well worth the money.
Totally awesome but I'd never have anyone to play it with. I'm about to go try and procreate just to have a child to mercilessly beat... at games that is.
Your kid is totally adorable.
I wish my parents put me on the internet when I was little.
Your son almost got it! That's a good way to play and to link i think~~
I guess i need to search up where they will sell this !! ... I need it !!
Nice review - always wondered how tetris like that worked!
Firebox is God. They also were the first retailers of the Perplex City cards when that was just starting up... :)
God job man, you beat a five year old. ;)
That looks sort of fun, the game, not beating a 5 year old.
save some money, here it is for five bucks

You missed a line Brian.
A bit more than halfway through the video you made a line out of a vertical red line, a yellow square, an horizontal red line and a purple 'T'.
