Unconfirmed, but the source who correctly said Virtua Fighter 5 was 360-bound now claims that Tekken 6 is headed for the Microsoft console shortly after its PS3 release. This comes in a wake of chatter claiming big PLAYSTATION 3 exclusives like Devil May Cry 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 will make it to the Xbox 360. Two words: Uh oh.
Tekken 6 Not PS3 Exclusive? [Aeropause]

Comments
Good news for gamers, bad news for Sony.
If I'm a game developer and I don't have an exclusivity agreement with Sony, I'm putting my game on the 360.
Ouch!! *lol* Things aren't looking to bright at the Sony camp are they?
Obligatory PS3/Sony bashing comment.
DMC4 and MGS4 are going to the 360? Where the heck was I when that was announced? o_O
I hope this is true... it'll finally give me a chance to try out a Tekken game, and since everyone I know owns a 360, I'll be able to play it with tons of people as well :)
/premature-excitement
I was expecting VF to come out for 360 since it's a lindbergh game and should be pretty easy to port. Tekken is a bit more of a suprise. But considering everything it'd be stupid to not put most ps3 games on 360 with the huge dev costs and all.
Well with the cost of games shooting to the sky, having your game on one system seems like a piss poor idea. You are limiting how much you can make. Being loyal to Sony for $20 million is not cost effective when you could be making $50 million from the sales of your game on another system
It isn't really good news for gamers either. I know the costs for developing an exclusive title are huge, and Sony and Microsoft are both having a hard time topping up the developer's profit margin to justify an exclusive title. But really, the reason that MGS2 and 3 were awesome was that they used every inch of the PS2's power. The same goes for Gears of War. If they had watered it down so it would run on multiple platforms, it would have lost a lot of its charm. Graphical losses are the most obvious, but there would have been less optimizing for each platform. There would have been compromises to meet deadlines on both systems. I think the best games are usually the exclusive ones. Zelda anyone? Okami? Resident Evil 4 was sweet but how long did the port to PS2 take? A year?
if SquareEnix comes to Xbox 360, then it'll be the end of the world as we know it...
Neither is confirmed hondo, in fact konami out right denied the MGS4 rumor.
Honestly...Virtua Fighter and Metal Gear were the only two titles I wanted for PS3 (and GOW3)...One has gone 360 and the other is rumored to be on the way...Devil May Cry and Tekken would be icing on the delicious cake that is the 360.
1.) The person who said VF5 was coming to the 360? WHO DIDN'T say VF5 was coming to the 360? EVERYONE said it, but it doesn't mean there all right
2.) The rumor started from a statement from IGN saying a "BIG" game was coming to the 360. Namco makes BIG games, this BIG game could very well be Soul Calibur 4 WHICH is in development or HELL Katamari Damacy. Namco makes a crap lot of BIG games so WHO KNOWS?
3.) This WHOLE thing started on the Team Xbox forums, which in fact made me believe that Xbox fanboys have no balls. I made a post saying FF13 was going to the 360, I stated a bunch of crappy sites just like with the Tekken stuff, and some crazy shit and it got locked, due to lack of proof. I had just has much proof as the silly Tekken rumor, yet non of them would accept what I was telling them. Easy enough to say they THINK there so cool for VF5, and bragging about a maybe MGS4 360 port. But come FF13 they don't have the balls to say anything.
Man I sure do feel sorry for all the poor people out there.
For the record, Konami did NOT deny the MGS4 rumor, that's exactly what is fueling it. They gave the same response that Ubisoft was giving for months whenever asked about Assassin's Creed coming to 360. All they'll acknowledge is that the game IS coming to PS3, not that it is NOT coming to 360.
What that means is that, whether the game will or won't hit 360, it is certainly being considered by Konami. They'd be insane not to. What kind of userbase is PS3 going to have in the US by Fall 2007 compared to the 360? They'd be severely limiting sales by keeping it exclusive to a system that is already just sitting on store shelves.
It really all comes down to how much of a system seller Sony thinks MGS4 will be for them and if they can offer Konami enough money to make up for easily over a million copies in lost sales they would get from a 360 version.
Neon says:
"Neither is confirmed hondo, in fact konami out right denied the MGS4 rumor"
Konami didn't say never, just "as of now" is would not be coming out.
icepick314,
i do remember squareenix showing a 360 "tech demo" ate e3, which was supposedly of some game to be. (not talking about ffxi)
It's all about the exclusivity agreement. If you don't have one, don't be shocked when a game goes to a different console. If you do have one, say so and let us speculate elsewhere.
Wow....first Assassin's Creed, then Virtua Fighter and now Tekken.
I need a 360.
They said they have "No plans to release Metal Gear Solid 4 on the 360 at this time."
How does that mean it's being considered?
Konami said this "Konami has no plans to bring Metal Gear Solid 4 to the Xbox 360 at this time. [It's] exclusive to PlayStation 3."
Ubisoft NEVER said that assassins creed were exclusive Ps3 and thats the diference between konami and UBI, Konami said they have no plans at this time and that its EXCLUSIVE ps3. If MGS4 appear on 360 it will be something like MGS4 Substance, that normally came out 1 year and half after the release of the original game, just like MGS2 and MGS3.
I doubt any hard decisions have been made, but it would not suprise me if the top execs at all those game companies are taking a look at Xbox 360, in the event the PS3 doesn't take off the way Sony was wishing it would. I still think it's Sony's game to lose, but the amount of mistakes they can afford to make is dwindling by the second.
I knew this last week. You need to go undercover over at NeoGaf!!
Is there any good PS3 news? Dang, you'd think so, with 120 million Japanese treating 360 like a plague.
Any overtures to Korea? Those folks are gaming freaks, with MMORPG pro players pulling $200k a year and being treated like rock stars. If I were Sony, I'd nurture a Korean fan base to defend against this massive U.S. backlash.
arcthemonkey: You don't have much experience with PR do you? "Not at this time" means "we aren't ready to tell you about it yet" or "we're holding out for more money".
jim_error404: They ported MGS2 to the Xbox without too much difficulty. The only reason it used "every inch" (funny, when they start measuring power in length?) of the PlayStation 2's power is because the system was hard to develop for in the first place. Keeping the vector pipelines filled while doing useful things on the CPU and having the GPU render at once requires a lot of careful programming. Had the system been better designed, you could've gotten the same results without anything near the effort it took. Sadly for gamers, the PS3 seems to have a lot of the same flaws.
None of this is a suprise to me.. i have heard from a few sites that VF5 will be on the 360 a few months aftter the ps3 release. I have both systems and stuff like this kind of gets me down. I mean, I want my ps3 to have games i can only play on ps3.. I am a huge VF fan so getting it early is a good thing..but how long will it take for these timed exlusives turn into multi-platform releases when they see how much money they can make with the 360. This will be less of an issue once ps3 has sold more..but it could be too late by the time that comes..
yurlittlepony, in korean grounds, sony is somewhat like Microsoft in japan. Korean hate japanese.
Microsoft is doing big moves over there as an awnser to the lack of japanese love.
"If I were Sony, I'd nurture a Korean fan base to defend against this massive U.S. backlash."
Because the Koreans love Japan so much more. There's a reason why console gaming isn't as big as PC gaming in Korea: the console market has been dominated by the Japanese, and the Koreans fucking hate Japan.
It's hard not to hate a country when they march into your country, strip you of your name and identity as a Korean, and try to re-mold you into into their own image. Any resentment that the Koreans may have over US foreign policy don't go anywhere near that deep. That and it's pragmatic to be friendly with the world's only remaining military superpower when your next door neighbor is crazy and has a nuke.
LOL did everyone read that post by Sailorcancer?!!! fucking funniest thing I've read all day! he's bitching about some fake info he sent to Team Xbox and that they have no balls because they didn't believe him! this is exactly why I read these forums! for hilarious gems posted by 12 year olds like this!
this is the good part:
Sailorcancer:

oh, god, that's priceless! let me get out my tiny violin!
@Doomstalk
Politics and Kotaku don't mix. This isn't Digg.
Anyway, Sony will do fine without exclusives. Maybe not as great as they'd hope, but their 1st party can carry them. I'd doubt Tekken would appear on the 360 because it has been a PS staple for so long (but stranger things have happened i.e. FF jumping Nintendo's ship). SC4 is a much more likely candidate, and it would also make one of my 2007 predictions true already.
I would think Sony would at least try to secure large exclusives like Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII and Tekken 6...
If Virtua Fighter 5 sells well on the Xbox 360, then all bets are off. Quote me on that.
"If they had watered it down so it would run on multiple platforms, it would have lost a lot of its charm. Graphical losses are the most obvious, but there would have been less optimizing for each platform. There would have been compromises to meet deadlines on both systems."
There's a difference between developing a game simultaneously to meet one dateline on all consoles and having a 6 month wait between console versions. I'm sure Tomb Raider Legend would of been a lot better if they didn't have to focus on all the systems at once. Tekken/VF5 isn't a game where they outsource to other devs.
There will be no expressions of shock if this turns out to be true.
Everything past "Tekken Tag" in the Tekken fighting series hasn't impressed me as much as I wanted it to. Don't get me wrong, its still a great arcade fighter and a series that I personally enjoy more than the VF series but if there is a way to get Tekken 6 to greener pastures (the 360) then by all means hop the fence. Here's to hoping more great series come this way and that Tekken 6 isn't as large of a let down as the other installments have been. IMHO.
Okay WHAT THE HELL is going on ?! This is the stupidest rumor ever. Yes of course Sony will let their biggest fighter/one of their killer apps go to the 360. Seriously there's been ONE killer app that is going to also be on the 360 and that's GTA. VF5 gets out on the 360 1/2 AFTER the PS3 release and VF5 is not a killer app.
Assassin's Creed was NEVER a god damn exclusive for the PS3 HOW MANY times does people need to read this to understand it ? God it's a game from Ubisoft have you EVER seen them releasing their games on just one system ? I guess not!
MGS4 is not going to be on the 360 how stupid are you guys, seriously.
But you know what, I bet you all that in the next few weeks there will again be some stupid rumor saying; Final Fantasy on the 360! And a few weeks after that we will see killzone 2 etc. on the 360 right ?
God all this rumor crap is killing me. Not just is a rumor, it's a damn poor rumor without any good sources.
having lived in S.Korea for a few years i can honestly say that most Koreans do not like the Japanese (this is from conversations with Korean friends and Co Workers) they are still kinda bitter over that whole "lets take over your country and enslave you" thing. boing boing had a flickr pool link a while back that showed school kids drawings, and alot of them were anti-japan.
Me I love em both. mmmm jeyukbokkeum YUM!
As to whether we've got anything scheduled at this point, we don't have anything that we can announce at this time.
-AM2 on the possibility of VF5 on Xbox 360.
Konami has no plans to bring Metal Gear Solid 4 to the Xbox 360 at this time.
-Konami Europe on the rumor of MGS4 coming to Xbox 360.
Already on PSWii60; this is for the rest of you.
TryingNot2H8you: Why not? Knowing your history explains a lot about the gaming climate in Korea. You can make broad statements about Korea hating Japan, but it's important to know the why of the situation. Ah well, I guess that's just the history major in me.
"Okay WHAT THE HELL is going on ?! This is the stupidest rumor ever. Yes of course Sony will let their biggest fighter/one of their killer apps go to the 360. "
You act like this is Sony's decision to make, the game is made by Namco, they can do whatever they want. Unless Sony has some kind of stock share in the company I am not aware of.
Eh, Devil May Cry 4 maybe, Tekken 6 no. Besides, do any Xbox 360 fans really want Tekken? Microsoft, GO FOR THE GOLD! GET SOUL CALBIER!
Well, it makes perfects sense for Namco to get their big hitter titles out to the biggest audience possible. I can think of no reason for this to remain a PS3 exclusive, so I hope it is true. Tekken V was actually really quite good, it kinda slipped under the radar for a lot of people but was a real return to form IMO.
If the rumour turns out to be true, it's great news for gamers. I'm really hoping that Konami / Kojima Productions do MGS4 for Xbox 360 too. They'd be mad not to.
If MGS4 comes to the 360, that pretty much makes the PS3 unnecessary to me, not holding my breath though.
Exclusivity is outdated. Unless it's an in-house development, I think it'd be a mistake for a company to devote the massive resources it takes to make and push a game to essentially alienate a third to a half of the gaming base.
Has anyone taken a look at the spread of companies that have started developing games since the late 1990's? I guarantee there's more out there than Konami and Square. Exclusivity used to be a wise move when the talent pool was more limited (the film industry was famous for having studio signed actors), but as time progresses and the field widens, companies that sign on to only one house are passing over massive amounts of potential revenue for the short gain.
Give me Soul Calibur 4 over Tekken 6 any day.
This game on the 360 with Xbox live mulitplayer would singlehandely justify owning a 360.
Soulcalibur was never exclusive to Sony anyway, and I think everyone is already fully expecting Soulcalibur 4 to be released for all three consoles, just as the second game was. The third game was exclusive, but only because they wanted it out quickly and they thought it would sell best on the PS2. And what happaned with that decision? It was a complete disaster.
In my opinion, Tekken 5 is still the best fighting game around, and I consider Tekken 6 to be one of the few reasons to buy a PS3. If it does come out for the 360, then that pretty much gives me no reason to ever buy a PS3.
And as for you people claiming this is a BS rumour with no real sources - this Tekken rumour came from the same source, who a few weeks ago said that VF5 would be released for the 360 in the Summer. And what was announced a few weeks after the rumour?
It's far from being confirmed, but I certainly wouldn't just pass it off as idle gossip.
Sony's got a serious case of butterfingers. Seriously, whats left?
It's not a case of games, it a case of cost. the PS3 is ludicrously expensive, and until the price has gone down a bit, I won't be getting one.
Bring on the non-exclusiveness in the meantime!
dude to me that is stupid. if that is the case then sony should have the same fairness and have such games as halo and crackdown and all of the other shooters xbox is known for.
