Xbox First is reporting that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game will soon be available for purchase on Xbox Live Arcade. Their information comes by way of Xbox's Partnernet, an area of Xbox Live reserved exclusively for devs and select members of the press. Not being one of these "select members" I am unable to confirm or deny this rumor, but Xbox First has provided some images of the game allegedly taken from said Partnernet. As we all know, images are easily and routinely faked these days, but these seem pretty legit. No release date or price is set at this time, so who knows when we might actually see this on our consoles. For now, though, all we can do is cross our fingers and hope for a swift arrival.

Best XBLA game EVAR!!
Oh the nostalgia!
omg i need some turtle goodness in my life right now! Would make sense for this to be released again to coinside with the turtles movie and game. *crosses fingers*
Insert Coin is on the screenshot.. Not "Press Start"... but maybe they havent gotten to that part of porting it yet :P
I'd def. get it. I lost a lot of quarters during the arcade days on that game.
I don't get why people think Virtual Console's so great. It's really only good for stuff that was made by Nintendo, otherwise, just about every other game not made by them would probably be much better on Xbox Live Arcade. Online multiplayer for games, very high quality emulation, optional better graphics, etc. This is why you are crazy if you want Goldeneye to be on VC, when it is obviously MUCH better off on XBLA.
This is a very rare occurance where I think the NES version of this might be better than the original arcade game. Yes, the graphics weren't as good, and it was only two player instead of 4, but the NES version had two completely new boards added to the game just for the home version, which I always thought was cool.
The menu and background image are pretty ugly. Hope that changes before the release.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I would be extremely happy if this came out.
I wonder if the music and voices will be gimped as it was when it was an unlockable on "Battle Nexus", or if Konami has cleared up the rights by now...
Yes! Please make this true. I don't have an Xbox360 yet but I plan on getting one soon enough. I agree also with crescentfresh that the NES one was better in a couple of ways. I also remember buying the game (the NES one) on the release date and it came with a free Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut haha. Probably one of the first times I remember heavy advertisements in-game. It was just so blatant and I loved it haha. Probably the reason I still like Pizza Hut to this day ;)
I really hope this is true, if it is the very second this becomes available I'm buying it. I loved that old arcade game! Hopefully this will pave the way for Turtles in Time, The Simpsons and Aliens to be released on Live.
Up to 4 multiplayer puh-leeeeeeez!!! And the feature to join a game in progress!! Do this download right
O_O this game alone has made me want to get a 360... or a 360 usb controller to use at a friend's house!
What's the deal with Microsoft keeping all these upcoming XBLA titles such a big secret? Ikaruga, Jetpac, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, TMNT.. you think they'd be chomping at the bit to announce all these intriguing titles in the pipeline. It's not like people have been frustrated with the current state of Live Arcade or anything like that.
XboxFirst did not post their news source which was :
http://www.360style.net/news109.html
I'm calling this one a fake for "too good to be true". People have been clamouring for this for quite some time. We'll have to see, I guess, but 4 players online would be... just... wow.
I hope its true. This might be the best news I've ever heard. Kinda brings a tear to my eye...
Wouldnt buy it, had it on the emulator and I forgot how short it was, beat it in less than 10 minutes.
That would be very cool. afaik the only other system that games been put on it the gamecube as a unlockable in one of the crappy new tmnt games.
@crescentfresh: Yes, two more levels of ridiculous boredom. The home version didn't have anywhere near the action or variety or the fun of the arcade game. The original arcade TMNT is one of the best games that ever graced the genre.
@VoldtaEngler: If I recall, Gauntlet also had "Insert Coin" in the game too. Not a big deal.
I spent quite a few quarters on that game back in the day ... The new 360 TMNT looks like a fun game of the same type as the arcade but with better graphics.
This is super awesome, but where's my SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT?! Wasn't it supposed to come out this month?
This and the Simpsons arcade game both rocked my arcade world as a kid, but playing them at home is a completely different experience than playing them in an arcade... and it doesn't live up. Both games were an appropriate length for a visit to the arcade but hardly for a home console purchase.
Now, if only this were the Sega Genesis version of Turtles In Time I would be happy as can be.
Naw, NES turtles was easily my favorite! The one with the weird tractors in the overworld.
actually i would like Tutles in Time first....original Arcade game was loads of fun but Tutles in Time was just too freakin awesome...
yes i said freakin!!
If its fake, its very well done. Menu items use the exact same font that Digital Eclipse has used for the UMK3 and Contra ports, the screen follows the same layout. The Ubisoft logo makes sense since they probably currently have the TMNT games license for their upcoming game based the CG movie.
With TMNT and Contra on the table, can Konami's X-Men, The Simpsons at other four player favorites be far behind?! w00t!
that would be so awesome, if only they could also release X-men
I'm sorry but SNES Turtles in Time > All other versions of TiT.
I'd say that this is inevitable. It's been confirmed that the original (horrible) TMNT is coming to Wii's VC and I doubt Konami bothered to secure the TMNT rights from Ubisoft just to release that turd. Konami has been one of the biggest supporters of XBLA and they know people want the Turtles arcade games.
It'd be awesome if Konami could work out a deal with EA for the Simpsons arcade game too. That'd be perfect seeing as the movie is coming out this summer...
I'd bet more on it being included on the TMNT 360 game disc, not an XBLA game. *shrug* But that's just me.
@AvidX
i'm guessing you posted that on 360style, eh?
xbox first guy said: "The images and information were sent to us from an outside source with access to partner.net, I was completely unaware of 360style.net's post. Our source is not given for obvious reasons."
oooh. FOIGHT! ...nyeh :P
also, enigmanemesis
are you serious?! ten minutes?! i don't think it was that short. if so, then they'd have to include something to make it worth a purchase. anyone else think it seems like there is more than one game included. the terms "play the original arcade classic" and having the year plastered over it leads me to believe there might be an updated version (geometry wars had it, too right?) and maybe there's an nes title as well... dunno. but there's no way there won't be backlash if the game is beatable in ten, twenty, even 120 minutes....
If you think a console (NES, SNES or Genesis) port of an arcade title is better, you need to be punched in the back of the skull so hard that your teeth fly out. Console ports lacked features (Particularly in this game, Raphael's different special attack), sported fewer players and worse graphics and sound.
Hopefully this is a trend. I'd rather have a slew of releases out of the Capcom and Konami side-scroll beat-em-up arcade library than more best-of-1978-through-1984 titles.
oh yea, @mit
i agree that xbla > virtual console by a few country miles. hell, if ms hadn't started xbla the virtual console (and playstation store) never would have come about. that's neither here nor there, but i don't think people think vc is better, per se.
i do see some hardcore ninty fans acting like it's the second coming and somehow ignoring that ms has been doing it for years now, but mostly, i think it's generally accepted that xbla has updated games with online play and hd graphics while virtual console just has decent to good pure emulation.
See this is why we should hope all 3 consoles do well. Isn't competition great? MS do XBLA so Nintendo and Sony do something as well, but all a bit different. You could say the VC and PSN stores wouldn't exist without XBLA but you could say that for every feature on every console. If it wasn't for competition we'd be stuck on cartridge and probably wouldn't have shoulder buttons and analogue sticks and be using memory cards.
The great thing is without these 3 companies trying to out do each other, and copy the good things from each other it enhances what we get. For example hopefully some of the great features from XBLA makes it to VC and the PS1 games (ie. online). I couldn't care less if the companies copied each other, cause we as the consumer are getting more out of it.
Put the Simpsons game on there too! Oh, I can't wait, been wanting this one on XBLA for a year.
Very awesome news.
However, I hate to see Xbox First to be taking credit for this exclusive, when I saw this story on: http://www.360style.net/news109.html ; more than a day before Xbox first posted it.
They say they got it from an outside source, but I find it hard to believe that their 'source' took the same screenshots at the same exact moment in the game and menu video as the 360style.net source. However, I suppose thats hardly a kotaku matter.
Great game, great news! I've also got access to partnerNet and confirmed that it is on there. Who knows what that means in terms of when it will hit XBLA though.
@coin_operated_boy:
I am serious, it is way shorter than you would remember.
@EnigmaNemesis:
Ten minutes might be an exaggeration, but I do know that I got about halfway through Sunset Riders in about 10 minutes (on one quarter) a few months back.
It's funny how some people absolutely NEED to associate a post about one thing with its competitor (PSP post w/ DS, XBL post w/ VC.) It's TMNT, a truly awesome arcade game hopefully coming to Live Arcade, what does it have to do with the Virtual Console? Nothing.
Just gets tiring sometimes is all.
any who, I really, really, REALLY hope this is true, I'm giddy with excitement.
I don't know maybe this looselipped source is telling all of the sites using the same pics. Or one site is stealing headlines from another. All I know is I love the thought and hope it comes to pass. It looks damn real but lets hope it is on the arcade in march. That would rule supremely.
What the hell, Flynn!
I sent this in as a tip!
Oh fuck it. I don't care about being recognized, I just think credit should be given where credit is due.
@Nikolii
You did not get halfway through Sunset Riders that quickly, did you really?
Geeze, and if TMNT is really that short... Maybe I just sucked at games back then.
Or maybe it's just wishful thinking, wanting them to be longer games than they really are.
Yeah, I did. I was at a movie theatre in some hick town in Southwestern Louisiana killing time while a friend was at work. I had about 15 minutes to kill before the movie started and ran through half of Sunset Riders before eventually just killing myself in the game.
