Looks like the PS3's price cut helped out Sony, but not enough. I'm actually surprised. I thought it would pull out ahead of Microsoft. Microsoft's price cut will keep the 360 in the same position for August - ahead of Sony.

Shows ya how much these "analysts" know.

@NOKS415: If you saw 11,000 PS3s in one place, you wouldn't be saying it was mighty close. God damn, that'd be a huge fuckin' mountain. But true, the price cut's been good to PS3 sales figures... I was one of those numbers in mid-July.

wow, surprisingly close on the ps3 numbers (159,000 vs. 160,000) but the 360 numbers?? (170,000 vs. 115,000). I wish I could be 33% wrong at my job and still be paid a lot.

Wii is fucking insane. Pulling these numbers without any big releases in the middle of summer? I think we can call the game right there.

It would take a lifetime to play every GBA game released. I'm not surprised it keeps selling. With a great compact design, plenty of quality titles and cheaper than your friend's sister on prom night. I wish I kept my GBA SP, I loved that thing.

So that's what a chart with the Wii over the DS looks like. Interesting.... though I still think that it's kinda funny that, even with the "price drop" that the PS3 still didn't outsell that 360.

Oh, and is there any way to find out the breakdown of the GBA sales? I think we can all agree that the originals probably aren't that large of a part of the 87k, but I'm curious to see the ratio between the SP and the Micro.

This isn't so bad for PS3, since the price cut only took place for half the month. I'm surprised PS2 outsold PSP, but the PSP slim holding up buyers likely caused that. Wii outdoing DS is odd too. Crazy time for consoles, summer. ^^

It's Mario Strikers ads. Nintendo knows that the casual/nongamer crowd is into offline mutliplayer hence the huge sales of Mario Party Eight. I think sales in September will also be at 400,000 level. There is no sign the wii sales are slowing down in any region just fluctating based on supply shipments. 90,000 wiis a week in Europe alone beats Sony and Microsoft weekly sales combined.

Man, everyone here needs to listen to the gamasutra podcast with Pachter if they want to bitch about his predictions. He said they are guesses people. That's not his job, nor does he make money based upon them. He is apparently quite good at what he does, he just does the predictions for the fun of it. Plus he loves to read you bitch about him.

So Pachter is batting about what now? 0.03? Funny. This was Sony's last, best hope to have a month where they beat the 360 console sales. Now with the 360 price cut and the big guns coming almost weekly between now and Christmas, it's pretty hopeless. Add that to Paramount/Dreamworks abandoning Blu-ray and Sony is due for some major executive firings.

If I could get a classic GBA (non SP) with a good backlight, I'd probably play it more than my DS.

I love the GBA.

The Wii won't slow down this year, which is alarming, to say the least.

My PS3 purchase will be in the numbers for next February or March once they release MGS4.

With Bioshock out now as well as Halo 3 and the two oncoming true, good, JRPGS all in September MS will most likely shift even more units.

Price Cut + Wanted Games = Win

This was the month sony was suppose too trounce xbox360 sales, with their price cut and all. Next months numbers will be very interesting, considering its the month of the "madden fiasco".

Unlikey to be that many if any at all. They stopped making the old model GBA awhile ago so most units have probably been sold by now. I certaintly haven't seen an old model gba in any store except used ones in quite a while.

Not really, they were off in some areas, but they were right about the Wii surpassing the 360 in WW sales, and they'll adjust their numbers in the next day or two to take into account the discrepancies in data

@شاه: I feel ya this is good for sony though. It would be nice to see them get back to the idea of just making a kick ass game console and stripping all the BS off. I pay 500-600 dollar for a good gaming card and lots more for the profession cards. So if Sony would just give us the power of a Super GPU and a price that says sexy then it would have been game over for every one because they still have the industry hoping they win.

Sony will be fine they needed this spanking the same way nintendo did. MS is a dangerous foe! Yet they lack creativity... If they ever find that then they could be unstoppable too.

Sony will be fine. When they lost all of their other battles they where just fine. A new terabyte optical disk is coming out in like a year or two. Yeah thats a 1,000 gigs. May be sony will jump on that wagon? It was a nice ride though.
