Somebody should eat that thing and then do a time-laspe video on the guy who does.
Oh my god that thing is huge.
They should make one of a tree growing. For 20 YEARS!
I know this is perverted but that thing going up and up reminded me of an erection.
Hmm, I wonder if those belong to the smurfs.... and when Mario eats one of those.. is he eating any of the smurfs too? o.O
Stop motion of things growing is always fun! Any bets on how long it takes someone to get banned for dropping a "not news"?
Meh, wake me up when you find a green one!
Everybody knows those are the ones worth eating.
That's mildly horrifying...especially the size of that thing. Crazy stuff.
So do we know anything about the... umm... "nutritional properties" of said mushroom?
@Archaotic: gotta agree... it was a very creepy watch. That thing was just a giant fungus. I half expected arms, and legs to sprout.
Taken in the propper doses those things will make you trip balls.
Frightening. I wish I could unwatch that.
Now find me a time lapse video of the fire flower :D
Who doesn't love fungi?
@MrBin:
"...effects can range from nausea and twitching to drowsiness, cholinergic effects (low blood pressure, sweating and salivation), auditory and visual distortions, mood changes, euphoria, relaxation, and loss of equilibrium, retrograde amnesia...delirium, characterized by bouts of marked agitation with confusion, hallucinations, and irritability followed by periods of central nervous system depression. Seizures and coma may also occur in severe poisonings."
From [en.wikipedia.org]
Not my kind of trip lol
@legacyed: Yeah, according to the previous post, it gives you 100% of your lifetime amount of death. Or makes you hallucinate in smaller serving.
It kinda stopped looking like a Super Mushroom after it grew that first bump...
At least it didn't spontaneously decide to start moving back and forth along the ground... is there a "?" block under there?
Ohhh... toadstool. Now I get it. It's like a stool, but a mushroom.
Wikipedia is just THE MANS propaganda machine.

Those're the important elements in tripping balls... also note how I said "Taken in the propper doses..."
@serotoninzero: *AHEM* that's what she said.
i love time lapse stuff.
... Erotic.
@TheWP: I take back the eating comment. Apparently, they are eaten in Japan. Where they are pickled to detoxify them. And you can also boil them according to Wikipedia.
Also, I find the relationship between this mushroom and Santa to be hilarious.
I was wondering why that pic yesterday looked so bulky, the flat one is the one I know. Interesting to know how that thing grows.
I am so fucking HIGH right now it is not even funny !!!
LOL Hahaha. WwWwWwWwWwwwwwww !!!!
@Herby:
Google do not Spider Herby,
Thank You
wow, that thing is huge, so gross haha
Let's see what ole Erowid says about this....
[www.erowid.org]
@MrBin:
Psilocybin over Amantia any day of the week, less danger as its not a toxin
what no happy face?
The video's missing the sound.
[nds2.content.mosh.nokia.com]
the Amanita's are only halucinagenic because they have Psilocybin in them, I wouldn't actualy encourage people to eat these... these on the other hand... if you happen to be in one of the few countries they're not illegal in *wink wink* WWWWWWW.
everyone knows it makes you big or "super". and green ones give you another life, so you live another 90 years or something, unless you fall in a hole.
Shouldn't the question be "Why is it growing in this guy's backyard?" What if the dog at it? He might just get larger.
Bleck... Fungi are one of the most disgusting things occurring in nature. Time lapse photography does not improve my opinion.
What disturbs me about the video is just how fast it grows.
Only a few days to get that huge, meanwhile, I didn't even notice the grass getting even the slightest bit longer.
I had no idea you guys outside of Northern Europe didn't have those. We call them flugsvamp (fly mushroom) here in Sweden :p. Fairly common too.
fucking gross
@brent_w:
My thoughts exactly! But I still have to say, "Good lord that thing is big!!!"
HOLY SHIT IT IS A MUSHROOM AND IT IS GROWING WTF?!?!?!
@Ghede:
Sex also tends to be pretty disgusting, yet everyone loves to do it.
Mushrooms and butterflies terrify me.
Am I the only person who heard the sound effect when Mario actually picks one of these up the whole time it was growing?
Just asking . . .
Are you a fungus farmer? ...cuz you are making my mushroom grow.
Well, I guess we know which people on Kotaku do drugs now.
Now where is our time lapse video of a leaf being punched in the air and then falling to the ground?
@MrBin: Eat some datura flowers...
These mushrooms can be found in the woods in large quantities where I live. I don't recommend them.
@ BUTTAH
LMFAO nice i was about to say just imagine though....wow you would be mario no?
wow mushrooms grow fast. 3 Days to open up completely. I'd like to see a time lapse from when its first breaks through the ground.
I'll just still to regular psilocybin shrooms :c)
i'll just stick to***
damn I must be on them right now
@Ghede: I think perhaps my early years as a young child playing "Super Mario" on the NES, have somehow contributed to my present-day fear and repulsion towards all Fungi. Seriously. I see a mushroom out on my lawn and I get a cold sweat.
Why was that so creepy?
@ Mr Bin
Not true at all. They don't have psilocybin. They have other chemicals in them which act primarily as deleriants. This differs from a true hallucinogen in that it makes for a much less enjoyable trip. Cholinergic effects can be obtained from eating a whole lot of Dramamine or Benadryl tablets, but I wouldn't recommend it. There's a difference between being shown insight into the universe's inner workings and hearing random words and sounds and feeling extremely strange for hours. Don't misinform people. If you want to trip, stick to the good stuff. There are amanita's that are deadly, and people going on your information could mix them up. Stick with the true psilocybes if you must trip, or LSD or ayahuasca (look it up if interested). Hell morning glory seeds, like 7 packets will get you a much more rewarding 'trip' of sorts and it's not dangerous. Has LSA in them, relative of LSD, and much less intense.
The mind is a wonderful thing, truly the final frontier.
Haha.
Yeah, that's huge. I want to use that as a table.
