Last Taiko Drum Master post, I promise, then I'll shut my pie-hole.
Namco has announced that Taiko No Tatsujin for the Nintendo DS will come with two drum master-themed styluses called "bachipens" so you can beat your DS screen into a musically-rhythmed pulp. The inclusions of these drumsticks have driven the price of the game up approximately 1,000 more yen when compared to normal DS games, but who cares? Now we can forget Wii Boxing Dog and get started on production of DS Drumming Cat. Not that you can attach anything to a cat's paws and have it not completely freak out, but anything's possible with the right amount of sedatives.

I can just hear the sound of millions of DS screens breaking world wide. ;D
w00t!! Time to impale the DS through ecstatic and overzealous drumming!! Bonus points if it goes into your leg!
@Witzbold: breaking rythmically.
why do you need 2 stylii if the DS screen isn't multitouch sensitive?
Too bad this will lead to many a frustrated player in realizing that the DS cannot register two points of contact at once, and I'm assuming if you use two points of contact alternately very quickly (which I'm sure some of the hard stuff will do) the DS will start to get a bit confused.
But oh well, cool sticks :D
Great. Now I need to drill two more holes into my DS to store these.
Now where'd that Dremel tool get to?
Geez Kim Phu, I thought Crecente and McWhertor were bad for going to the Playboy Mansio, but geez....
@Link_the_Collector: *Mansion
speaking of Wii Boxing... when is there going to be a proper Wii boxing game god damnit. The controls SCREAM for it.
@whitesanjuro: authenticity?
My question is, how do you hold the DS?
How does one hold the system and drum with both hands?
"two drum master-themed styluses"
They are stylii, not styluses :)
@jasonng:
You don't. Haha! I think (assumption here, don't quote me), that you would be expected to put the DS on a flat surface of some sort in order to hold both of the little drumsticks.
Since I'm the first to say: I WANTS.
Those stylii are adorable.
And for those questioning how to hold the DS and play at the same time, usually if you're playing a rythym game (such as Ouendan or EBA) it's a lot easier to set the thing down in the first place. Personally, I have to play Ouendan lying down because trying to tap and hold the DS at the same time just doesn't jive with me.
It's gonna be interesting to find out.....I'll buy it.
Any word on a potential US release? Not that I mind importing, just curious. None of the PSP versions ever came here.
Realizing that everyone who wants a DS will soon have one, Nintendo has resorted to breaking existing DSes to get people to buy new ones.
In Japan, first-party DS games typically cost 4,800 yen, while third-party games retail for a bit more or less, depending on the publisher. Namco Bandai games, for example, usually go for 5,040 yen, so I wouldn't say there's 1,000 yen markup going on here.
i wonder if the bundled styluses/styli is weighted.
I sold my PSP and the game I miss more than any is Taiko no Tatsujin. The day I get this game (and stylii) in my hands, is the day I burst into tears of joy.
I haven't seen the tracklist for it yet but I hope it's got some of the great ones from the arcade version 9 or PSP version..
Taiko Drum Master... A brand new way to fuck up the bottom screen of your DS!
the two stylus are catching my eyes and the game look interesting. But to import it then i should spend some bucks....well...still thinking about it

@Mit:
When drumming, why would you need two beat both sticks at the same time?
From what I understand (I'm no expert here), you would alternate. It would be the same as tapping one stylus quickly.
This game looks like a purchase to me. Maybe it's keempoo's incessant brainwashing tactics.

Useful branding accessories give many players incentive to actually go buy the game. I don't know how big the 3rd party flash cart business is, but it has to be more than a niche market by now. Is there any research on how much is "lost" licensed NDS publishers because of this? Just a thought. But recreating an arcade experience with bundled accessories? Pretty much an easy sell for fans.
This would work much better on the Wii.
@markuspants: It surely isn't 'more than a niche market'. There are supposedly 44 million DS/Lite systems and I would be surprised if there were anywhere near 1 million flash carts.
DS sells to a very wide audience that includes people (probably mostly kids but also a few adults) outside the 'extreme male techno-geek' audience who are likely to know about flash carts (that'd be me, then) or own one (that'd be someone else, then).
I'm not entirely convinced about this game, but maybe it will be good. Unless reports are really stunning I probably won't bother to import.
@Mit:
It's just drumming. The stylus shouldn't stay in contact with the screen at all. It should hit and bounce away. And I suspect it won't matter how well it can keep track of exactly where the contacts happen as long as it can keep track of _when_ they happen. Also, trained drummers would generally try to hit the same spot with both sticks/mallets, unless they were intentionally trying to get different tones by hitting different areas of the same drum head (eg: steelpan drums, which have different notes tuned around the rim).

@Magma:
We already went over this about a month ago. Stylii, styluses, Stilii, and stiluses are _all_ acceptable spellings, according to the Mirriam-Webster Medical Dictionary.
