Midway just unveiled the details on the Xbox 360 version of Stranglehold Collector's Edition and while it's packed with director-esque extras it doesn't sport a free copy of the movie like the PS3 version does.
The $70 collector's edition comes with:
• Poetry In Slow Motion - Behind-the-scenes documentary on Midway bringing the style of John Woo to video games.
• Extended Cinematic Sequences - Extended scenes which didn't make it into the final game.
• MTV Studio Visit - Follow MTV visit with the game team during crunch time.
• The Vision of Stranglehold - See the progression from concept art to final game.
• The Sound of Stranglehold - An insiders look at sounds design.
Not really worth the price of admission, I think. You can't really blame Midway for the lack of movie, though. I suppose they could have shipped a standard version of the movie, but really HD is where it's at and with the HD-DVD player not built in to the 360 that would make no sense at all to include.

sounds similar to the content that came FREE with God of War I.
There's an actual Stranglehold movie?
They had to put up a "Special Edition" because the PS3 was getting one. Too bad the SE for the box is shit while the one for the PS3 is...ehh, I guess passable. The movie in HD has to be worth... something.
Why couldn't they include an HD movie in WMV format, or whatever the 360 could play in its media player?
SLACKERS
Nice. I didn't even know the PS3 version had the movie in it... :D That's hella tight.
@3inst3in: yup
@Mohrdikai: Not yet but they plan on making one. The ps3 includes the Hard Boiled movie. Not the stranglehold.
@Mohrdikai:
The movie is Hard Boiled.
It comes with the game on the same disc.
From the latest footage I saw of the game. It looked far less worst graphic wise then when it was showed at e3. a year or 2 ago. I bet the game will get reviews is the 70s at best. The ps3 collector edition seems like a good offer but I am not so sure about the actual game so I will wait and see.
1 point to buy collectors edition for ps3. -1 for xbox.
PS3 SE comes with a movie? im getting that version then :D
actually, I thought about this a while ago. since BD carries so much space, and im sure not all of it is used for the movies or games. for Movie based games, why not throw in the movie in HD? it would help sell allot better collectors edition movie + the game.
I think that's lame.
They should've included the DVD version of the film. The game is meant to be a sequel to the movie isn't it?
I could live without the doco and, what? 'extended cut scenes'?
Are they serious?
Spare me.
@PlaidNinja:
Because they can't fit a full HD movie on the DVD and the game. PS3 is getting the movie because of Blu Ray space.
I'm surprised MS didn't negotiate some way to include a code to download the movie over Marketplace like they did with the Animatrix. It wouldn't be as cool as physically having the movie, but it would satisfy some people.
@Kyle81: It does not need to be hd though.. They could have included the original dvd movie.
I wonder if the ps3 version of the movie will be playable in any blu-ray player or if it will be only playable on the ps3 after loading the game.
@skobar: Again, the movie might not have fit even at normal dvd quality. Remember the game is still on disc, and even though the movie doesn't take up a whole DVD usually, it still has to fight with an entire game for space.
Definitely not a bad game, but I can't say I'm interested enough to get a CE.
@Kyle81: They could have just put in an extra disc. DVDs are dirt cheap to manufacture and they're already charging more for the CE anyway.
@Kyle81: I am going to assume that the game takes up the same space as a dual-layer DVD (due to it also being developed for the 360) - that would leave roughly 16-17GB of space left on a single layer BluRay to fit in a HD film.
That would be more than enough if they encode the film in H.264 or VC-1. Even possible to squeeze in a HD MPEG2 film there.
@Kuraudo: But who cares? The movie has been available on DVD for years now, in several formats/releases.
The hole point of the PS3 exclusive is Hard Boiled in HD.
that's all well and good, but no where in the midway press release did it say that 'hard boiled' would be in high definition.
i'd love it if anyone could provide a link to prove me wrong (as i'd love to see this in HD), but if it IS in standard def, i'll pass since i already own the criterion disc of said woo classic.
slight addendum: i'd also pass because stranglehold looks like typical played out midway shite.
cheers.
It's HD soviet. This is old news. Search for it yourself.
I'm buying it only because I loved Hard Boiled. So even though it might suck, I still want to see what happens to Detective Tequila.
Not bad however the film Hard Boiled is having a proper S.E. release very soon from Tarantino's Dragon Dynasty.
@Kyle81: That's fair enough. You were just saying that the disc wasn't big enough to hold a SD version of the film. I was pointing out that wasn't their only option.
This is madness, what is Live for if not such bonus material?
Why not a downloadable version in HD?
Was Sony quicker on the draw this time?
Wallets at high noon.
Meh. I'd rather have more game content than a movie that I saw way too many times years ago.Sony really needs to show people what Blu-ray can do as a game storage format instead of this.
Not that it's an entirely bad deal, Hardboiled is a badass film, probably Woo's best action flick.
Tequila is the shit.
i wish the 360 came with a free copy of Hard Bolied,it was a while ago last time i saw it,but its a great film...but still cant wait for this
@BlackDove:
"old news"? perhaps you read a different midway press release, dove?
[www.midway.com]
or perhaps this is just wishful thinking on your part. show me where it says 'hard boiled' is in hd.
that's what i thought.
@Kyle81: 2 disc set. Problem solved.
Soviet MOnkey, lose the 'tude and learn to Google, dood:
[www.google.com]
Depending on the reviews, I MAY buy this game, although I'll rent it for sure.
I am, however, buying the 2 disc Hard Boiled special edition that comes out on dvd around this time. It's a two disc set that comes with a bunch of extras that I'm pretty sure won't be on the PS3 disc (ie. to do with the movie, not the game).
re-read dove's response to my posting before you tell me to 'lose the 'tude' bowler.
and then perhaps you should re-read midway's press release. nowhere in it is high def mentioned. why not? that is and was my only question. i have neither had or have an attitude on this...until now.
mind who and how you address others. wanker.
Okay, I'm pretty sure that this game is gonna be bad. It's a rule of thumb for anything Jackie Chan/Jet Li/Chow Yun-Fat: If movie/game/ect. is produced by a Western studio, it's gonna suck.
Extended Cinematic Sequences - Extended scenes which didn't make it into the final game.
Nope, didnt make it into the final game, just the Collector's Edition that launches at the same time!
Wows!
@Tepoz:
It is an Asian Max Payne, with more destructible environments, and Unreal engine tech. So it should be sweet gameplay wise.
@PlaidNinja: Add to that the fact that 2 DVDs are cheaper than 1 BD. There were a few options they could have chosen if they really wanted to offer a decent alternative.
The HD movies for download on 360 are around 7gb for the full movie. They could put that on 1 DVD and it would play on the 360.
They could have included the movie in standard def.
They could have chosen a 3rd option that would be far from ideal but still better than what they are doing. Hard Boiled could have been made available as a free download over Live for those who purchase the game. With this option, they could even try to sell it to those who haven't bought the game.
The last story about the PS3 version also mentioned that they were releasing the movie itself on DVD at the same time as the game's launch. That is the real reason why you won't get the movie for $10 extra. They want to sell the $20 special edition of the movie to someone. This will be a game that can wait for the bargain bin but not b/c of this stupidity. It just doesn't look good enough to compete against the other games that are coming.
