Well done, Japan! You love the DS so much that, in recognition of your slavish adoration, Nintendo are offering you two new DS Lite colours. Just in case you felt like you needed swapsies. Or one for special occassions.
The colours are Metallic Rose (ie metallic pink) and Gloss Silver (ie...silver). The rose, not really for me, but boy oh boy does that silver one look sexy.
Both will be out on June 23. Expect long lines. And mass hysteria. And a couple million Westerners with a deep sense of longing.
New DS Colours Announced [Nintendo Japan]

I don't get why anyone is pleased with either of these colors. There's a large list of colors remaining on the ol' color palette, why not tap into those? Nope, make metallic version of two already existing colors -.-
Oh well, it's Japan, not here.
What a waste of a color...Why a new pink, I mean there's a million other colors they could of used.
Me? I'm still waiting for glow in the dark edition.
Give it time Mit, it will spread elsewhere.
I second the Glow in the Dark edition, but I rather have a see-through aka "Glacier" DS.
Atomic Orange would be nice as well, it's been some time since the N64.
Those two colors together remind me of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Although Japan got those games nearly a year ago...
They seriously need to bring Enamel Navy over here to the States.
grrr, I bought one from Hong Kong via Play-Asia, but I seem to have misplaced it. damnit, it's nowhere to be found.
How about Holographic Plaid?
Silver FTW!
Oh AND glow in the dark FTW!
@Kenofthedead:
There was orange for the GameCube.
Unless it actually has a metal shell, I dunno if I'd be that interested - metallic plastic usually comes off as cheap.
I think we found out how Nintendo will create even MORE sales of the DS in Japan. Just periodically release new colors. They don't even have to change the hardware.
I've never liked pink too much...but it would be so much better if it was a light pink. Light pink I can handle, but the more garish pinks bring a shudder. >.<
So instead of glossy pink and white they get metallic pink and white? Why? What is the point behind releasing smudge-and-oil-attracting versions of those colors? Nintendo needs to give metallic pink slips to the next bunch of idiots that come up with unimaginative drivel like this.
@Evin: Spice. It was spice!
@Kenofthedead:
There is those SHOCK! DS Lite replacement cases, but there is the issue of them not being official products, so you miss out on some of the details of an official DS Lite case (i.e. the "screen" logo on the back).
Plus, I've been hearing they're not all that great... [shrugs]
@Evin:
Spice Orange GameCube was Japan-only, I think. Maybe it came to Europe? Well, it defnitely didn't come to America (but the controller did!).
@Chef:
Like the GBA SP and original DS cases?
And I second the comments about how these colors are unnecessary. :/
Just a little while ago I found myself wishing for the metallica colors, like in the GBA SP days..
A silver and a pink with no finger prints and a nice sheen: definitely worth trading in for!
All very well and good, but where are the RED ones?
Goddamnit I want a nice bright fire engine red DS and matching Wii.
I've been waiting for a silver DS lite to replace my old original DS for a while, although I don't know about the gloss. I'll wait for some customer photos. What's wrong with matte, anyway?
I want a tweed DS Lite.
I still think Navy Blue is the sexiest.
Lime Green DS Lite would be sweet!
My friend bought a see-through blue shock DS Lite case, which was cool until the bottom plate didn't fit on the system. So he mixed the pieces with his white DS pieces and make a decent looking hybrid system. Then both hinges on the case COMPLETELY broke, and the thing couldn't open/close without flopping all over the place, so he went back to all his white parts and his original cracked hinge (which was the reason he bought the replacement case in the first place).
They need to just go ahead and release a chrome DS.
So the colour you perceive it as just depends on whatever colour T-shirt you are wearing.
They are ok, but I have yet to get that "damn that looks nice, why is mine so ugly" feeling that usually occurs when dealing with Nintendo handhelds. I'm just fine with my basic white one, though, if I red version is ever released, I suspect I'll yearn for it.
Why won't Nintendo just let the poor japanese sleep, just when they think they've got all of them more come out!
@neo_jman: Heh. I like the pun, but really... those 'metallic pink slips' would only be justified if these things don't sell like... (what's the current superlative for selling things? surely can't be hot cakes any more... hell, in Japan, probably it's 'DS Lites').
Call me a stick-in-the-mud but personally I wouldn't bet against sales of DS Lites, even in some slightly tasteless colours.
Me, I'd go for pastel green - or a pastel pink that's (even) more pastel and less pink than the current 'noble' one. Except I wouldn't, because I already have a DS Lite, it's white, and looks very nice (hinge crack aside).
I'm still holding out for a bright red DS color. If not I'll just have to settle for black.
@Mit: I agree. I would kill for a green one, personally.
@Datalock:
Yeah I want a red one myself. Red is the color of naughty. ;P
I just bought my DS Lite last month (Had the original but had to sell it to help afford my 50" TV). But I missed the DS that I bought it with FF 1 & 2 for GBA and 3 for DS.
But one of the things I didnt like about my purchase was my only choice was black. (I always hated white, and was one of the reasons I didnt like the Lite at launch) and there is no way I am going to explained to everyone why I got a pink one. So I went with black, the color almost everyone owns. Even my nephew said I was copying him.
I wanted another color, and now that I just bought one, I know the US is the next to have a new color announced. And it will be Red I bet. Cause I love red.
Doesn't everyone in Japan own like 5 already?
*waits for Sky Blue Lite to release in NA, playing Ouendan 2 on his white DSlite.*
@khdownes:
There happens to be a SHOCK! case of that, too.
