1 Million Wii at North America Launch

Reggie Fils-Aime may not have wanted to spill the beans on Wii launch numbers when he talked to me a few weeks back, but that didn't keep the Canada arm of Nintendo from talking hard numbers.

According Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada's vice-president and general manager, they will have about one million units for North America alone at launch.

"We're looking at a million (units) for North America at launch," said Bertram. "When Sony came out (with their PS3 announcement), they said 300,000."

It does make me a little nervous that Bertram is off on his Sony numbers, they said 400,000 for North America, but I'd like to think he won't be wrong on his own company's figures.

That sounds pretty solid, though no word on how Nintendo will be treating the rest of the world. I have a pet theory, I think that Nintendo actually finished developing the Wii two years ago and have warehouses full of them all over the world.

It would explain a lot of things, including the sub-par graphics. Zing!
