With Vivendi retaining the rights to the F.E.A.R. name, developer Monolith Productions needed something unique, something catchy, something that's not a four-letter acronym for the follow up to the spark-filled first-person shooter. What did they wind up with? Something that's definitely not a four-letter acronym. What would have under normal circumstances been dubbed F.E.A.R. 2 will now be known as Project Origin. Memorable isn't it? Wait, what was it again? Right, Project Origin.
Sure, it may not have the sex appeal of Dead Echo, but at least it's better than the rejected Blood Let: Drenched in Desecration, isn't it? Project Origin is planned to hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 at a mysterious future date. Try to remember the name when it comes out.

I thought Severance was a good name but I guess it was either unavailable or it just didn't make the cut. Oh well, I guess it conjures up images of people being fired anyway.
What's it called again? I forgot.
What do you expect?
Take a generic shooter, get a generic name.
Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, it just did nothing new whatsoever.
Hm. Nearly all games starting with the word 'Project' are massive flops.
Let's *cough* hope *cough* that it becomes a *cough* success.
*COUGH*
Oh crap, that's a lung.
Blood Let: Drenched in Desecration is TOTALLY way more awesomer than Project Ori... uhhh....oh yeah! Project Mediocre.
They should've totally named it S.C.A.R.E.D.
I still love Conflict: Denied Ops as one of the lamest titles ever.
Why don't they do S.C.A.R.E.?
(Super Crazy Assault Recon Escapade)
Project. Ugh. Anything with project in the name has a dull, boring name. It doesn't matter what it is or how much you try and justify it, if you've named something with Project in it, it has a lame name.
Was this seriously voted on by fans? I would like some of them to come into this post.
wait a FPS with a incredibly stupid name my god thats unheard of.... the first title wasn't very good ether
I suppose it makes sense if you've played the first game and know what Project Origin is, but I agree it could be catchier.
Nothing says sequel like putting Origin in the title
C.O.R.R.I.D.O.R.S. would be a more fitting name.
I liked Death Echo or Echo of Death better than Deac Echo. I was hoping for another acronym though.
Didn't the developers learn from the first game? Jesus. If acronym-name games tend to be horrible, then what will happen to 'Project'-name games?
P.A.N.I.C.S. would've been nice if a deal could've been made with Rooster Teeth or something :P.
Really though, "Project Origin"? Might as well call it "Shooter #54"
Beats the first idea of:
F.E.A.R T.H.E S.E.Q.U.E.L
Not a bad name.
Jesus, worst name ever.
Project Origin works pretty well, I mean it WAS crucial to the first game so...
R. A. F. E.
For minnimal effort.
I would've gone with S.P.A.M.O
(Shoot people and move on)
@RPharazon: All of the PGR games have done pretty well. I'm not sure if it was you, but someone made this argument in a thread about Project Offset(which happens to look great thus far). I can't think of a lot of other games w/Project as the beginning of the title.

Still, I would agree that this is probably the most generic title that could be chosen. There was some sort of legal issue as to why they could not call it F.E.A.R. 2. They should have just called it First Encounter Assault Recon 2. They wouldn't actually be calling it F.E.A.R. but everyone would abbreviate it that way and easily recognize it as the sequel.
lets see if i can do this...
one
really
idiotic
game
is
newsworthy?
Why not "Come for the cubicles, stay for the A.I."?
Project Origin? Not feeling. Project Mundane Unscary, I could see.
@wasasaw1113: -1 for no capitalization.
So I guess it's safe to say that the plot will center on Project Origin.
Pretty weird considering that was first one's plot, but hey! I bet *critical* information turns up that changes *everything*.
My submission was Point of Origin, both making a nod to the Origin Project that gave birth to Alma and avoiding having Project in the name. Too bad Fate hates me.
@Heliophage:
Well, and a play on words, obviously.
It's not exacty like F.E.A.R. was a winner of a name either. The game made it pretty damn clear real early on that the whole spook factor was mainly decorative. It's not until really late in the game that the creepy stuff actually poses any threat to the player. On the whole, it was like they wanted to weave The Ring into an otherwise boring version of Half Life 1.
Maybe they'll actually deliver something that succeeds as either a thriller OR a quality shooter for the sequel.
I believe if they just named the game and did not say anything and just showed game footage.
you guys would not be so hateful.
Come on, Dead Echo and Dark Signal were about as generic as they come too. (Hell, Metroid Prime 2 was subtitled Dark Echoes in Japan).
At least Project Origin fits in with the story.
"I suppose it makes sense if you've played the first game and know what Project Origin is, but I agree it could be catchier."
Exactly. Out of all the final candidates, that one made the most sense anyway. It may not have as a nice a ring to it as Dead Echo or Dark Signal (which make no sense at all), but it's appropriate at least.
@wasasaw1113: Hmmm. That almost sounds like you're saying "this is not news."
A bit off topic, but monolith makes FEAR. Then there is a monolith that is making Disaster: Day of Crisis for the Wii...And nintendo just bought that monolith.
But FEAR is made by a different monolith right? Monolith productions...and there is Monolith Soft?
brain just exploded...it has been a long day at school.
lmao Blood Let: Drenched in Desecration was MY entry, and not only did IGN make fun of me, but now Kotaku is on my ass too? CMON
@ EATRICE, Nintendo bought the Japanese Monolith, they were behind Xenosaga or something. Diff monolith.
F.R.I.G.H.T.
Fearful Recon In Green Horrible Tights
Um...Tingle is in it. And he shoots zombies.
...
*cries*
I gotta tell ya, FEAR was really over-rated. I had to force myself to continue through the game, it just isn't that fun or scary.
Sounds like a prequel with the word "origin".
Dull name for a even duller sequel.
Jeez, they should've just named the sequel Electric Boogalou and be done with it.
more like Project Boreigin. yawn.
Why didn't they just call it N.O.L.F. 3?
@McWhertor: no, i just couldnt think of anything else for the acronym. this is actually very newsworthy
Any of you guys actually play the first game? It was really fun. If you like the FPS genre and have a good PC you should check it out. The gunplay in this game is some of the best I've ever had. A.I is awesome as well. Project Origin is a good name, it was part of the main storyline in the first.
Good name
S.E.A.R might have been the most logical title, I'd think.
It should be named F.E.A.R. 2: MAKE FEAR 2 BETTER THAN THE CRAP THAT WAS F.E.A.R 1.
