EA & Harmonix aren't mucking around when it comes to Rock Band's peripherals: they've announced licensing deals with Fender, Roland Corporation and BOSS for their guitars, synths and effects pedals respectively. This means the game's official guitar controller will be a wee replica Stratocaster, and while there was no word on the other two, expect an effects pedal somewhere along the line too (especially since the 360 version already looks like it'll be supporting one of these).

While announcing this, Harmonix boss Alex Rigopulos also confirmed that not only will Guitar Hero controllers work with Rock Band, but that other third-party musical peripherals probably would as well, and that they could (maybe) get Rock Band guitars working on Guitar Hero. Complicated!

All good news, but the best is that this licensing/advertising is hopefully how they're going to keep costs down on the peripherals. Luke Plunkett
