Nintendo have just announced at their Fall Conference that Smash Bros. Brawl has been delayed in Japan until early 2008. January 24, to be exact. No word on whether that means the North American release has also been delayed, but we'll update you on that as soon as we hear back from Nintendo. But it's OK! Deep breaths, Smash Bros fans, there's more news, and it's not all bad.
Sonic has been unveiled as a playable character, surprising nobody but pleasing many. Continuing the good news, Nintendo also announced that the game will support online co-op, though just how much and in which form we're not sure. Does the good cancel out the bad? Depends on how bad the bad news is: like I said, we'll let you know about the game's various Western releases when we hear back from Nintendo.

They needed to give enough time to evade the abortion that is the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
Considering all the games coming out this holiday season, I wouldn't mind a delay, but I know there are rabid SSB fans that are probably cutting themselves right now. Polish it to perfection and I'll be happy.
Still, Sonic!!!! Now it just needs the Blue Bomber and that Harvest Moon guy and I'll be happy. Well, Frog would rock too.

So we actually get to fight Sonic and Mario without waving our arms up and down with the wiimote, looking like idiots, and getting no satisfaction in what can't even really be called a "fight"! I'm excited. Not because this is really a GOOD thing, just because it's a BETTER thing. Than comparing the jump distances of the two characters.

Please say this is a horrible joke. Sonic is great, but any word possible delayed Smash makes me feel ill. I was led to believe that it was a June release when Wii first came out. I was able to cope with a 1/2 year "delay"(things with only EB dates can't really be delayed I guess), but patience isn't where I focused my stat point asignment.
If its delayed I wouldnt mind. Why?

Nintendo, i love you... So much... Co-Op single player online, Japan and possibly america getting a delay when europe hasn't been given one yet so it makes no difference to us, meaning possibly a worldwide release date! Putting my childooh nintendo fanboyness to great joy with finally having a Sonic Vs. Mario fight at last! (Outside of the olympics)
And the best part is that watching the comments go crazy is going to be enough entertainment for the next hour until portal becomes unlocked!
Now i don't even mind if Felix from Golden Sun never becomes a character.

The release of their big 3 (Metroid, Mario, Smash) for 2007 was one of Nintendo's major selling points at E3 (and the fitness pad). Maybe we'll all still be playing Mario too much to notice a SSBB delay.

Seeing as how the first two games were released in Japan first, it's likely that Brawl will be delayed here, too.
Perhaps this will give the starmen.net team time to finish their translation of Mother 3 before Brawl spoils it for all the English speaking fans.

Hear that noise, Nintendo? That's the sound of my hopes for the Wii shattering on the rocks. Kojima said months ago that the game was done and fully shippable. Why delay it AGAIN? The one game for the system I planned to buy this year, and now it's not even coming out. Just lovely.
That being said, I'm glad they finally confirmed (Super) Sonic for the game...but why'd they have to announce the delay at the same time? Please please PLEASE let this be a Japan-only delay. I'm going to cry if I don't get to Smash in some form before Christmas.
For them to get this game right I'll accept any delays without complaint.

Thats 1500 points though not 15 dollars 1500 points is roughly 15 dollars here. Also look at the screen shot for a downloadable game itas got good graphics.
NO!!!! why do they have to tie these two announcements together!!! If this delay does turn out to be for America too (God HELP Sakurai if it's WORSE) I will always want to destroy the TV when I see Sonic, having tied the delay to his inclusion. Really though, don't care too much about Sonic, I live in a college apartment with 20 people around all waiting for this game so I don't even need online, I JUST NEED THE GAME!!!
We got the Wii itself before Japan. And Zelda. It wouldnt be too much of a stretch for USA to get Brawl first as well.
