Sony Confuses PS3 Owners with DIY Battery Replacement

First, Sony tell us they'll replace the Sixaxis for free when the battery dies. Now, they're telling us how to change it ourselves, going so far as to include it in the PS3's manual. Looks like all you need to do is unscrew the back of your Sixaxis and disconnect the battery. It doesn't look any harder than changing the SIM card in your mobile phone.

Why, though, would they bother showing you this if they've already come out, on record, saying that any dead controllers would be replaced for free? Nobody in their right mind is going to bother replacing the battery on their greasy, dirty, half-busted controller when they can just get a whole new one for free.

Unless, of course, that generous policy disappears quietly into the night, and a "free controller" becomes a "battery replacement pack". That costs money.
