Two more candidates for the Wii Virtual Console service have been rated by the ESRB, typically a good indicator that these games are coming to North America, possibly within the next few weeks. First up is Ys Book I & II, the role-playing game collection released for the Turbografx-CD containing both Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished and Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished - The Final Chapter. Both feature fantastic art direction, primitive graphics.
Also rated was the Genesis version of Rolling Thunder 2, which ups the side-scrolling shooter classic with a second secret agent and a hefty pair of boobs. Gameplay was an afterthought. While neither are dated nor confirmed by their respective publishers, expect them in a future update.

Zombies ate my Neighbors was rated last year. Damn you, Nintendo!
Does anyone know if the VC will ever host Square Games. In particular, I'm thinking of 'Secret of Mana'. I loved that game.
Aren't they being remade on the DS or something?
If wer're getting the remake on the DS, I think I'll stick to that.
I the DS has had 'Mana' games made for it but, unfortunately, not 'Secret of Mana'. That game was awesome - probably my favourite SNES game.
I'm not buying another Virtual Console title until they begin they Wii Gift feature so I can share them with my friends.
Unless it's EarthBound...
Good news all around. Never got around to Ys, and Rolling Thunder 2 was one of the classic sleeper hits of the genesis era.
@Moonshadow101: I'm sayin.
@Green-clad gamer dude: also seconded, Earthbound's long overdue.
Ys...now there's some memories.
And I hope they NEVER do Earthbound just the PISS you guys off, seriously!
@Moonshadow101: Hagane was too. This is getting to be irritating.
@Moonshadow101:
Weren't Kirby Super Star and Mario RPG some of the first games to be rated too and neither of those have shown up either?
...of course, Super Star is being remade/sequelized for DS...
@kimcheese: May Mr. Saturn live in our souls and hearts.
Well, if this like those other last last last gen YS games then I'm sure people will have fun bumping in to enemies.
Square-Enix said they would rather remake their games than to use a service like PSN (PS-1) or Virtual Console(Wii). Not sure if this still falls true for them though.
I wonder when Falcom is going to officially release Sands of Kefin and Mask of the Sun / Dawn of Ys
@djricekcn:
Square-Enix has also said they don't think Nintendo charges enough money for VC titles.
Ys will be the star of the show the week that it hits. :D
@djricekcn:
Actraiser, King's Knight say hello since they are from square and are on the vc or will shortly be on the vc.
@Green-clad gamer dude:
They will never do that since that isn't gift giving. Gift giving means you buy the person the gift not send them something you already own. Learn the difference between regifting and gifting.
@Sailorcancer:
The remakes are 40 dollars per. Eighty dollars total.
The vc versions are a good way to get people to consider plunking down money for the remakes since the remakes have lots more content, graphic upgrades etc.
Heck ys1 and ys2 on the vc likely caused the idea of remakes due to high sales like the Legend of Kage vc sales spawned Legend of Kage 2 which is coming out for the DS.
woots! more y's 1/2 ports
Even though I already have Ys 1&2 for my TurboDuo, I'm all for more Ys everywhere. Maybe they'll sell enough to bring another game over. I really enjoyed Ark of Napishtim and wish we had all the other games over here.
@Undead Priest: man square has some ego! they have to cave eventually.
the pc engine is still pretty cool even now, it was only an 8 bit system but it managed some pretty cool shit! i still own one and a wack of games like gates of thunder which when it was released on vc i downloaded pronto! and it was pretty much the same as the disc version.
I need me some Ys.
Great music.
Nigh on unpronounceable name.
@Yetanotheruninspiredscreename: I'm not going to check right now, but apparently one of us has misunderstood the Wii Gift feature. And I don't think it's me.
Awesome games. Ys Book II got kind of lame but the original was good, and Rolling Thunder is one of my favorite series of games ever. And 2 was the best of the trilogy by a lot.
I'm not a big fan of VC due to ridiculous prices, but Ys does tickle my fancy. Hope it's 800 points.
One more step closer to the "second coming" of Ys outside of Japan. This is going to blow so many people away once they realize it has voice overs, GOOD ONES. The music, the story, the characters, the bosses… all epic to the millionth degree.
yes, it is being remade for the DS. But it's better to try it on VC before deciding to shell out for both those DS carts (they're being sold as two seperate full price games). I can already guarantee that Ys Book I & II will still be the best version, (although not graphically) one of the reasons being that the remake almost definitely won't have the Ryo Yonemitsu + Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack that Ys Book does. But the remakes will have extras as well as better graphics, so if you fall in love with Ys Book I think it'd be wise to check out the remakes when they arrive.
BTW, for anyone not in the know, the creator of Ys I and II is Tomoyoshi Miyazaki, who went on to make other awesome games like Actraiser, Soul Blazer, and Illusion of Gaia.
