Sega Saturn will be hitting Turner's GameTap PC service this Easter as a little Easter Egg, get it?
Saturn's platform title Bug! is listed as Insect? on the GameTap service. The game's description says that the debut is "...a hidden one-week sneak peek of planetary proportions... Stay tuned for the launch of more games for the Sega Saturn later this year," according to Gamasutra, which spotted the Egg.
That certainly seems to indicate that more Saturn goodness is headed GameTap's way. I've asked for confirmation from the service, but haven't heard back yet.

Panzer Dragoon Saga and Guardian Heros!?!?!?!?
Btw, if anyone does have GameTap my handle is ArmyofJuan on there too because i'v been trying to co-op that Quest for Chemelot game or whatever it was called forever now and none of my calls have been answered.
Gametap needs to be available on a console. That is all.
I really hope this isn't true, as it would likely mean no Saturn games on consoles. I really, really would not want a subscription to gametap.
@armyofjuan
Hahaha you beat me to the punch, the Panzer Dragoon series would get me to sign up in a heartbeat.
Shining Force III FTW.
...Although I don't want to get GameTap either.
It wouldn't mean no Saturn games on consoles. Sega is far from exclusive at this point. Like a dirty whore, they'll go wherever the money is.
Ive been looking into gametap for ages now. I know there is a ton of quality on there, but I am always busy with games now that I don't know if I would get a full use out of the service... but damn, saturn games on there just might do it. Bug is an awesome game too, I believe it was a launch or near launch saturn game (sorry, its been SO long i dont recall)
Something tells me once they crunch the numbers, Sega will probably try to put these games out on the VC or XBL too. They'll just give Gametap the 'exclusive' window for now.
Radiant Silvergun sure would be sweet, but I would also rather play it on a console.
Guardian Heroes + Dragon Force = Worth buying the Saturn
Anyone find the other two easter eggs?
What I find most interesting is according to Susan at Wired, this is running via a Saturn emulator, not just already done PC ports of these games.
*That* is rather interesting to me. I can only guess that Sega turned one over to GameTap, but knowing how difficult it would be to emulate a multiple CPU system, this is an interesting pickup.
Either way, hopefully we'll see some more Saturn games.
This would explain why the Saturn and Dreamcast Emulation scene is so crappy.
Chankast hasnt been updated in years, and Saturns SSF leaves a lot to be desired. Though both are awesome.
Another Easter Egg is Wing Commander for PC. Search "tiger claw". Not sure about the last one.
@johnhummel
Didn't Sega have some sort of pay to download Saturn thing on PC in Japan? I thought it had an emulator that was eventually cracked or something.
I, too, would like to know how the emulation will be handled. Will you be able to adjust resolutions and possibly correct some of the Saturn's more frightening 3D hiccups?
I was really skeptical about GameTap at first too. But now that they have the Sam and Max episodes I find myself spending more and more time on the service. If you have a wired 360 controller it's an even better experience.
And to respond to the person who said GameTap should be on a console that idea is one that already failed. It was called the Phantom. Though it's library was not quite as diverse as that of the current iteration of GameTap, it was a console that focused on the ability to download games and play them in an incredibly similar fashion. No one wants to pay for a new unique piece of hardware that would only serve for that purpose though. Paying the 7$ a month for some of the content you have access to I dont think is totally unreasonable, especially when several people i know pay over 15$ a month to play the same game month to month (WoW).

It would be really nice to play those rare/awesome Saturn games without spending hundreds of dollars on Ebay. I'll be game.
For the record, here are all three of the hidden Easter egg games currently on GameTap...
Bug(Insect)
Wing Commander(tiger claw)
Warlords:Battle-Cry 3(Snakemen of Keshan)
does this effect their WiiVC probablity? Cus I'm dead serious when I said I wanted virtua cop with the wiimote and zapper.
Radiant Silvergun would be... it won't happen most likely, but the ability to play it without spending several hundred dollars would be nothing short of awesome.
@ArmyofJuan: The exact two games that came to my mind.
OH snaps, if they've got Guardian Heroes..I'm IN.
I know I'm with the minority here (maybe just the way I feel), but for some reason I rather see the Saturn games on Xbox live than on the the Virtual console.
I'd rather see them on the Playstation Network, but I'm biased.
Hell put em on all the consoles, if they can. It wouldn't hurt anyone. Except maybe Gametap.
hmmm.. Gametap for PSN? I like.
Who said anything about Saturn games? Bug! was available for PC and that is likely what GameTap is using. I played the demo and it actually ran TOO FAST on my Cyrix 133MHz CPU (IBM P150 in an old black Acer Aspire w/ 16MB system memory and NO 3D support... integrated or otherwise).
And to continue, the "more games for the Sega Saturn" part will likely mean Sonic 3D Blast PC (not Genesis version), Last Bronx PC, Virtua Fighter 2 PC, etc.
I'm pretty positive it's the PC version of the Saturn titles...
If Nights into Dreams is here, I may bite...but still hoping that makes its way onto the Wii VC (I mean, if Genesis is on it, why can't the Saturn?)
@KiySeph:
Yeah thats how its been with other sega titles. Theyre just the PC version. There werent that many saturn games brought to the PC either. Stuff like virtua cop, virtua fighter, daytona. Dont expect stuff like Gaurdian Heroes or NiGHTS. They already had PC versions of DC games on gametap for a long time
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
BURNING RANGER GANBARE!
And I am still waiting for Gametap to become Mac compatible. I have hope, if Adult Swim(their half sister on their father side) can do it, it just a matter of time.
@NoBullet: The Dreamcast games are actual emulated games. They are the real deal.
As for Bug... It probably is the PC version, buy only time will tell.
Guardian Hero's..... i love thee
I demand Dragon Force, and lots of it.
i've got my fingers crossed for Panzer Dragoon Saga,
i played it a few times, it still is my favorite RPG ever...and ranks pretty high as one of my favorite games ever but i want more people to experience the greatness that is Panzer Dragoon Saga....hell I'd play it again too
@Roybot
Agreed that the Saturn emulation scene is pretty bleak. However I find Saturn SSF to be a more than sufficent emulator. Was playing Panzer Dragoon Saga this morning on my Intel Celeron M laptop.
Guardian Heroes? Shining Force III? Panzer Dragoon RPG?
Make Gametap Mac compatible and I'm in. Or somebody just get me a copy of Windows and I'll do it myself.
humm well the saturn needs a really good cpu to be able to emu right. hell the best saturn emu's ssf needs at least a 3200+ amd 64
As long as they have Segata Sanshiro
Yeah but this will probably be a lot better written than SSF.
If I say it three times will it come true?
SHINING FORCE III
SHINING FORCE III
SHINING FORCE III
I'll pay anything to play this game. Anything under $160 on Ebay. :(
@Redfire 29: Shining Force III goes for like $50 on eBay. You can get a Saturn console with goodies for $30 or less.
GREAT!!! I sent Gametap a suggestion to include Sega Saturn games and I'm glad they listened. Now all they have to do is bring Dragon Force.
