Low PS3 Sales Mean Better Financial Loss

Always look on the bright side. Sony's having it tough, but at least the company is optimistic! In the quarter ending in June, Sony shifted 710,000 PS3s worldwide. (Nintendo sold 3.43 Wiis in that same period.) Sony's chief financial officer, Nobuyuki Oneda, says:

Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation.

Bwah? Sounds like Oneda said the quiet part loud! This up-front truthfulness is a nice change of pace compared to the typical PR bullmalarky. Elsewhere, Oneda adds that Sony sees "the main battle" ahead of them. Couldn't agree more: this Christmas could make or finally break the PLAYSTATION 3.
