Have you seen the movie Underworld? OK, great. Now take that movie and relate it in absolutely no way to Tomb Raider Underworld, the rumored next TR sequel since the trademark was discovered. Said to revolve around the Mayan calendar, or more specifically, the five unnamed days at the end of the year known only as "Wayeb'." During this time, the realm of the living and dead was said to blur, leading us to only one, inevitable plotline in the game: giant ghost/zombie jubblies.

And somehow, I'm okay with that.
Gotta wonder if the release date will actually coincide with the end of the calender. That'd be pretty cool.
@Moonshadow101:
Just for the fact that what you just said would in fact be cool and make sense...it prolly wont happen now :(
This acutally sounds hella cool. Might get me back to playing with Lara Croft instead of the knockoff Larry Croft.
Can't wait! Anniversary is such great game, I know it doesn't get much attention but I thought it was serious AND tight.
And to anyone who got the IRON Egypt achievement (completing Obelisk of Khamoon without dying is a total kick in the balls) I salute you.
Will they at least have Kate Beckinsale in the game? plz?
Kate Beckinsale = win
I've never played a tomb raider game, mostly because i think lara croft is unattractive. (oh cmon dont lie i know thats the only reason you guys played those games in the first place). Are they any good? (the games, lol)
...is it so wrong that I just imagined Kate and Lara making out? Because I just did.
@Moonshadow101: The calender does not end, it merely resets at the beginning, this also coincides with the crossing of the galactic equator. What happens magnetically once we cross this threshold is unknown and of no use speculating on here.
The proposed end date of 2012 and the so called end of the Mayan calender is a work of fiction....the dreamspell calender contructed of core functonality of the Mayan calender but completely disregarding certain vital aspects of the original clock/calender as taught to the Mayans (humankind) by god D, or the creator. i.e, periods and days....
It's nice to see some real history being incorporated into games, but we don't need fiticous works trying to represent themselves as truths when they are not. I have found the Mayan calender to be a source of amazing achievement. Okay, class is over.
I'm down with big zombie jubblies.
I like the premise. This could hint at a chance to add a greater action (i.e. extra gunplay) element in addition to the exploration.
Kate Beckinsale vs Angelina Jolie. MMMM nerd loins tingling.
@sadkermit:
...I likey videogames...
I'm totally ok with the undead/zombie thing. Sounds like a blast!
@sadkermit
That's really interesting. I was one of those roped in with the doomsday Mayan prophecy. Not that I believe in it, but that the myth actually existed.
Are there any good doomsday prophecies that follow the supposed Mayan one? I'm wondering when next I should start stockpiling my underground subway car full of bottled water and games.
I hope they're paying attention to Uncharted. Their work in this genre is cut out for them. Cashing in on just the Legends engine with HD enhancements may not cut it.
That concept doesn't sound half bad.
"A blur of the living and the dead" éh?
Sounds like a callcenter sim to me.
So... the end of Legend is just going to remain a cliffhanger?
I don't know -- I could see Lara in that Kate Beckinsale leather outfit from Underworld.
@Heliophage: Considering that it's a different company that's doing Lara now, and that the last few Raider games (excluding Anniversary) were nothing sort of disappointment for nearly all parties involved; don't count on seeing a resolution to that story.
I thought Legend was pretty fun. I wish they would establish some sort of normal continuity for this series. I'm getting confused by how many iterations/remakes/sequels/reboots that are going on.
With all the nicely done graphics these days, why does Tomb Raider still look like a bunch of lego pieces...
@mandarin: Have you seen Anniversary on the 360? It's not covered in shiny, but it's still not bad at all, considering how many platforms it was on.
@blackadvent: I don't know where you're getting your information from, but both Legend and Anniversary were developed by Crystal Dynamics, and the only reason Anniversary was even made was because Legend sold so well. Considering Legend is their entry to the series, I would be surprised if Crystal Dynamics didn't finish the storyline, but stranger things have happened.
Woo, pale jubblies!
Tomb Raider Underworld?

(my wife's on the left)
@Ashurahori: drooooooooool
Lego peices? What are you playing?
Anyway, Crystal Dynamics made the last 2 games Legends and Anniversary (I don't know why anyone would think those were flops because they weren't) so I'm sure they would continue where they left off. At least I hope they would tie the two together and get some closure for it.
If not then maybe it will be like any anime series where we leave it at a cliff hanger only to be resolved after some nonsensical episodes first.
Come to think of it X-files did that a lot to. Can't wait for it. Love me some Tomb Raiders!
somehow this intrigues me. Might be the mention of dead things.
@dpena81:
If you think Uncharted is a knock of Tomb Raider you must have taken some drugs while watching the movies with Jolie. When the Indiana Jones game comes out in 2008 you might wish they made it a knock off of Uncharted. ^^
@shimage: And this is why I need to do my research. Thank you for proving me wrong- but I'm still not certain they'd continue the storyline from Legends, if only because they made Anniversary.
Screw uncharted, I like jubblies with my adventure games.
@CrimsonPhantom: Not that I'm aware of yet. These dreamspell guys that keep perepetuating the 2012 end date also predicted the end in 1995, 1999, 2000.
Still the real history behind it is pretty cool, read up on the Mayan Calender on wikipedia.
I'm always looking forward to the next possible chance of stockpiling myself. :|
In fact,the end of the Mayan Calender in not the fount of the controversy about the end of the world.That history slides about the links that some researchers made with the "códice de Quetzalcóatl" (you can find it in the wikipedia)that tells that at the end of the thirteen period of the same calender,something really big it´s going to happen,then surges the normal fears and myths surround this,like the Quetzalcóatl´s return,the end of the world-or the universe-,even a New Age where the mankind reach the spiritual peace and the ultimate knowledgement,It´s so interesting that I´ll recommend to everyone that like´s this themes to read about it,remember that the Mayan Calender is the most accurate that the man had made,and that in the mention "códice" it talks about the deluge and other disasters,well if tomb raider it´s going to set in this mithology it´s really gonna be interesting.
Well, the last two games rescued the franchise, so if they want to do undead zombie tomb raider, I'd be up for it...
