Walking the razor-thin line between rumored and confirmed, word is circulating that most of the employees at Sigil Games are now seeking new employment. Sigil is of course the development studio behind the critically slammed and admittedly unfinished MMORPG, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. According to a post at F13.net, at 4:30pm yesterday employees were told to meet outside, at which point their employment was terminated. The post further explains that they were told some of them could be picked up by Sony Online Entertainment, who co-published and handled marketing for the game.

While we are still awaiting the official word from SOE promised later today, this move unfortunately makes a lot of sense, especially considering Sigil founder Brad McQuaid's words that we discussed back on April 30th. Sounds like the 'much closer' relationship between Sigil and SOE McQuaid hinted at might just be flat-out absorption.

Having been playing Vanguard on and off since launch, I really hope this doesn't signal the end of the game. There is a lot of potential there that just needs to be polished. Helmets would be good.

Once again, this is almost as good as confirmed, but we're going to hold out for word from SOE before committing either way. Michael Fahey
