I posted earlier today about a tip we received that Target was pulling the UMD movies, for the Playstation Portable, from their stores.

Another reader just emailed to confirm that the UMD pullage is indeed a company-wide effort. The chain, the reader says, decided to devote the space the non-selling UMDs were taking up to IFC independent movies. The chain will continue to sell the PSP flicks on their site though.

Just to double check I called a couple of local stores and they confirmed that UMDs have indeed been officially pulled from the chain. It sounds like it is an ongoing process, with some saying it just happened and others saying it happened a month ago.

Unfortunately, this doesn't mean we will be seeing some major UMD clearance sales. One of the Target stores I talked to said they were removed overnight and likely shipped to headquarters to fill their online sales.
