A gameplay montage video of Epic Games' Gears Of War—specifically listed as PC footage—found its way to the internet earlier today, confirming the long-running rumors of a PC port of the million-selling Xbox 360 third-person shooter. That video was quickly pulled, with copies of the clip making their way to YouTube, Google Video and the other usual suspects.
The clip showed some of the PC port's visual improvements and additional content, including new boss fights and new maps. In addition, achievements for the PC version made an appearance, indicating that the game will take advantage of Games For Windows Live service.
Gears of War for the PC was one of Microsoft's worst-kept secrets, with Epic staffer Mark Rein admitting that a Windows port was coming "eventually." That "eventually" looks like it might happening, I'm guessing, next Tuesday night, when Microsoft's E3 press conference goes down.
Let's all hope that Rein stands behind his commitment to keep supporting Windows XP users and that this doesn't become one of those Windows Vista exclusives. Oh, and let's also hope that Xbox 360 owners will see these PC-only additions offered as downloadable content in the near future.

Oh we'd better get us that SP level. I want my goddamn brumak fight. I really hope it isn't like the Halo PC maps where they make you buy the pc version to wring some extra cash out of you.

Awesome, I'd buy it just for the boss fights. Since you usually had to just run from them all in the single player campaign.
That was pretty nice looking, looked like it was running at 60FPS, but it's hard to tell with Youtube, definitely faster than on the 360. Here's hoping we get some SP add ons for the 360 crowd.

Sweet. I played a couple of levels this week, i'll be picking this up when it comes out for PC. The running mechanic is looks simply stunning; it was a detail that left me impressed with the complete experience.

Although it is hard to tell now, if this is a Vista exclusive (GFW achievements), it'd certainly be a strong push for DX10/Vista for gamers.
My computer would first curse at me, then cry, then explode if it tired to play this game.

60 frames per second. And a bad-ass extra boss fight. But I can't imagine the rig needed to run this.
I knew this was going to happen ever since i saw the unreal engine 3 tech demo. I wasn't sure what game they where showing off, but i then found out it was gears of war. I knew epic was stupid to not release it for pc. Now it shows they arn't stupid
I can't picture this game running well on current PC hardware, lol.
Even if it comes out packaged for the Vista/DX10 early adopters, the XP/DX9 crack will be out inside of 24 hours. MS needs to just bite the pillow and accept that gamers aren't jumping onto the Vista wagon until they clean their various issues up.

It better come out on the 360 as well. Because not only do I not have a computer good enough to run it, i wouldn't want to play it on the computer. I like the 360 controller better.
Despite what Rein said, I have serious doubts that Microsoft will allow such a huge seller to be released on XP as well as Vista. With their huge recent push towards Games for Windows, I don't see Microsoft publishing this for XP.
It could happen though - I've been wrong before.

No way my computer can handle this game, it would be runing at like 2 fps. Gears 2 is probably only a year away so not much to worry. Epic just get rid of the boss battles. I hate them. 30 sniper shots to kill a person I mean come on.

SWEET! This is the anouncment I've been wanting! Hopefully, Epic will open Gears up to the community like they do with UT (maybe even *gasp* some free content). And as long as Mass Effect shows up on the PC at some point, I can spend my money on upgrades instead of a 360. I <3 my PC : )

As a Vista title, you can just plug in your 360 pad and play as you would normally.
@evulcow: On your current PC hardware or the usual PC hardware people get these days, because the 360 has been released on november 22 2005, thats a really long time for pc component, and im sure the new videocards we have right now can give the 360 a run for its money.

Actually, you can do that on XP too - Lost Planet on XP recognizes my 360 game pad just fine...
@Samos42: man, that video reminded me how great GoW is.. If there's time between finishing Overlord and RE4Wii, and the influx of games starting August, I'm am *so* gong back to that.

Why is this coming to the PC? Microsoft/Epic should keep it a 360 exclusive. With games like Bioshock, Lost Planet and Gears of War going to the PC also, people are losing reasons to get a 360.
Me on the otherhand hate PC gaming, so I'll stick with the 360.
Gears wouldn't translate well to a mouse/keyboard, despite being very similar to an FPS. For instance, when you're running around and you "blind shoot", there's no crosshair...and the thumbstick (or mouse) is essentially just controlling the camera. It'd be awkward as hell with a mouse, I reckon.
Fuck It really looks smooth abd much better looking than the 360. Maybe thats just because its running at a high frame rate!!!!!!

It doesn't matter. You will be able to use the 360 USB controller on the PC. All games For Windows games require this.
I hate to say this, but GoW on a PC? What a waste. You spend $400 to get a game like this on a console...or spend $1000+ on the same game?
Ok. Looking forward to picking this up, but it's always very hard to impossible for me to get excited about re-releases.

@whitehawk: it definately is. Ive been on the fence about getting a 360 or a new graphics card. Every time i figure out a reason to get one or the other a new reason pops up to warrant more thinking. Chalk this up as yet another reason to get a new graphics card.

Im guessing its running higher 360 version does not look as smooth and just fuckin fluid like.
Im guessing they are getting ready for Gears of War 2 since they are releasing it on the PC. Though that may be more like late 2008/early-mid 2009

I guess Epic forced Microsoft's hand. Epic had originally planned for Gears to be on PC from day one since they have such a strong PC following because of UT, but Microsoft wanted to really push some 360 consoles and if the game was on PC, that just wasn't going to happen. (MS published the game). Epic must have put the pressure on MS for them to finally ok the port. I'll be getting this for sure when it comes to PC.
