W00t! I love me some Dawn of War. Sign me up!
please for the love of god introduce the 'nids!
This is VALUABLE Company of Heroes balancing time they're spending here! But making more games is cool too...I guess.
But WHAT are the new races??? Tyranids? Witch Hunters? Dark Eldar? Squat? Slann? Can't wait...
Two new races?
C'mon~ Tyranids!
Two races? I know one of them is the Dark Eldar (the Emo faction of 40k), but what's the other one? Tyranids? I thought Relic said that they wouldn't do Tyranids until they made a proper sequel.
And air units, huh? I hope they won't end up being as poorly thought out as the air units in the table top.
Oh yes! I just wonder what the new races will be. Probably the Tyranids they are amongst the last one they didnt include in the game yet.
They devs have said they wouldn't do Tyranids, cause they felt the current DoW engine couldn't handle it. Not to mention what would their playstyle be? Zerg rushing with large numbers? Orks already have that covered.
But who knows, maybe they found out a way for it to work. Either way, I'm buyin' it.
Hey thats cool! Cant wait to see what they include in it!
Although it would be great if they moved the DoW series over to the CoH engine, since that one the soldiers make far more use of the terrain cover + height advantage which would be excellent for the Warhammer universe.
Once of the official races is the Dark Eldar. The other is a mystery.
I'd kind of like to see Demonic Legion as one of the armies, though 'nids would be awesome, as they're the only one of my 4 "real" armies that aren't represented in the game.
YES YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!!
Dawn of War is the game that broke The Great Apathy of 2007 for me and reintroduced me to W40k. I can't wait for this, seriously.
My bet is the races will be Dark Eldar and Witchhunters/Inquisitors.
Bah, it's like having the Space Marines and the Chaos Space Marines...
We're talking evil eldar here...
This. Game. Is. the. best. RTS. of. last. 5. years.
Is. not. the. best. of. last. 10. years. only. because. balance. issues. that. only. affect. hardcore. players. (like sc players).
PERIOD.
If Dark Eldar is one of the two and the 'Nids are being kept in the vault until Dawn of War 2 then the second one could very well be the Adeptus Sororitas and the Hereticus Inquisitors. They have a unique look to them and have enough special units that should make them stand out like the Penitent Engine, Exorcist tank and arco-flagellants.
I want Witchhunters! I want to play with my beloved Sisters of Battle :3
@exkon: You seriously know nothing about 40k do you?
Dark Eldar are NOTHING like Edlar, and I don't mean fluff wise. Unit and play wise, the Dark Eldar are completely different with few similarities.
note to self: Act of War is good too.
Depends on what they define as a 'race', doesn't it?
I'm gonna go with Dark Eldar and... well I was going to say Witch Hunters, but that might conflict with Grey Knights going along with the Marines. Definately not going to be Daemon Hunters.
Squats would be nice, but I'm pretty sure that they were phased out by GW at some point in the past.
Otherwise, only Tyranids remain, but... who knows.
Actually, now that I think about it, Hive Gangs would be an interesting faction to include. If anyone ever played/heard of the old GW game 'Necromunda', it was basically small scale gang-warfare. Teehee, that might actually be a fun race to play.
@Tei: No. It had the potential to be the best but never got there. Balance issues ruined multiplayer.
Not to mention a lack of interest in balancing the game from the development house Relic left a bad taste in the mouth of the community.
As for your hardcore community... thats all thats left. Casual players left due to frustration of loosing over and over.
Was I the only one disappointed in the single-player being about 12 missions long in DoW?
@Cad06: I don't understand why people play most rts single player. I own and have played all recent major rtses such as supreme commander, company of heroes and dark crusade but I didn't touch a drop of the singleplayer.
Now I know why they STILL HAVEN'T FIXED WIDESCREEN SUPPORT IN DoW and DoW:WA
@Naelok: The vid at GamesDay on Sunday was only showing off the Dark Eldar, but they were looking pretty sweet, no nids in sight, but they must be the other race, surely? who else is there??
Dark Eldar are confirmed as one of the races.
...and there seems to be a slot of speculation on the official forums that the other race are the Sisters of Battle.
@Morgoth: Because Multiplayer matches last about 3 minutes each, and some of us like to think.
I'll accept Sisters of Battle...but the Hivemind wants me some NIDS
@Gypsie: The DOW engine cannot support the Tyranids in a function that will do them justice (IE hundreds of units). Relic has said that they will NOT be in a DOW game. Possibly the sequel if they ever announce it.
One race IS the Dark Eldar. The other is a mystery.
Tyranids ftw. I dunno how the engine couldn't handle them, they're not even as numerous as the Orks, and the necron scarabs swarm enough for me. There's no reason nids couldn't make it into the game.
Aside from nids, all other races they could add are mere fluff. Adding nids now would make the game complete for me. I'd rather they just added more units and tech to the existing races than shoehorn another in.
BRING BACK THE SQUATS!!#$@%@%@!$%!
:D
@Tei: PERIOD *S*
;)
@FrigidAir44: Yeah, id heard they'd said that :( let down tbh.
@Sgt. Bilbo: I'll be a little annoyed if its SoBs, tbh, a third imperial faction wouldnt do it for me. Especially one thats basically a half-way-house between Guard and Marines. Although, now they're the house guard of the Ordo Hereticus i guess that might not be toooo bad.
Squats ftw ;) lol...they havent been in 40k for ages tho, so not holding my breath.
I don't play much multiplayer RTS, because people play RTS like machines or maniacs. I play to relax and have fun. I already have a job, thanks.
I play RTS games like a militariced Sim City. Once I have a perfect base, I drop nukes everywhere else. Maybe, I am just coward.
they might cop out and do space wolves... i mean, they are *technically* a separate army...
This is bittersweet news for me, great that we're getting more DoW but I'm gutted that it isn't DoW 2. That's the only game that would entice me to build a new PC and get Vista. Until then I'll stick with mainly console gaming.
I hope they nerf the Necrons for this release (unless of course they've already done it, haven't been on Dark Crusade in a while).
@evilkoala: nah, they dont follow the Adeptus Astartes to the letter but they're still Space Marines, and the new codex (next year) will add the 13th Wolfen Company to the main army. Surely they wouldnt be that lame?
If the game is set in a Star System instead of on a planet, reckon the Imperial Navy could be a faction? add HomeWorld style sections to the game? prob not, but just an idea
But... the end of the last expansion said 2007. :(
It's all Company of Heroes fault. If they weren't wasting valuable Dawn of War time half-assing that game ;)... it'd be done now.
Am I the only one who finds "standalone expansion" a bit of a contradiction?
I will say this...I would like a tactical strat game based on Necromunda...Hive gangs FTW
@Moonshadow101: Ah but then there's thinking fast...
Ugh, it's the only game that can make me upgrade my PC. They should release DoW on X360, I'd buy it even without mouse support.
@Gypsie:
gawed i wish
just take the HW2 engine an add WH40k ships an i'll buy it :(
Bah! My friends and I love these games (and yes, I like the singleplayer on them too), but we still have problems with the multiplayer - with some people not being able to connect to games with certain other people. The same goes for Coh multiplayer too. I know it's often to do with port forwarding and all that, which we've done, but we still can't get a game all together. I mean, it's bloody worse than wii friends codes for utter frustration.
Maybe they'll put in the Hrud. Or just go bug nuts and put in the Blood Pact to counter the IG faction.
Best news I got all day! \o/
Fuck the new races. As long as they keep the Tau, I'm happy.
FOR THE GREATER GOOD!
The Hrud wud be an interesting one, especially since Games Workshop seems to be adopting a lot of the DoW stuff as official lore. A development of the Hrud wud be exciting!!
Will be interesting to see how they will balance out the Dark Eldar faction. Outside of the slow-moving Talos the Dark Eldar has no heavy, tank-like unit that can absorb alot of incoming fire.
Dawn of War is the reason that I can't look at Starcraft 2 and feel anything. No excitement, no anticipation, nothing. Sure, a fair bit of it has to do with the licensing, but DoW seemed to bring things to the table that I had missed from other RTS: more focus on taking and holding territory, more dynamic play, less focus on harvesting/farming, units that seemed more like a cohesive force (since they were formed in squads), etc. Sure, there are other games that had done a little bit of these things, but it really hammered it home.
Having only played the Company of Heroes demo, I can't rightfully speculate on the full game, but what I saw of the Essence Engine I loved. It added even more of my favorite parts (lines of supply as an important factor, experience making units even less expendable, unit upgradability, personality...).
I drool over the thought that there might be a DoW2 using an upgraded version of that engine.
Awesome.
Between this and the SupCom and CoH expansions, I'll be in RTS heaven.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Best news this week, or maybe even month. Oh god yes.
I had a nerdgasm when I first saw the awesome animation of the Broadside exo-armor deploying.
AH! I can already imagine a tau Manta or a SM Thunderhawk deploying units on the battlefield.
They need to add titans next.
Now we just need to wait for DoW 2 with the CoH engine...(believe!.
Two new alien races, hmmm..., Tyranids and Dark Eldars?
Sweet; not the full sequel we were sort of promised, but close enough. Adding aerial forces brings the game another inch closer to the Epic version of the TT game, which suits me fine, I'm hoping when they do get around to the full sequel, that's where they'll go. I wants me some *working* Titans.
Last, my .02 on the new factions:
Tyranids and Dark Eldar: 95% Likely
Sisters of Battle and Dark Eldar: 75%
Imperial Navy and Dark Eldar: 50%
The DE are a lock, they're too easy to add NOT to put in, even if they will have to fake a couple units to keep them in balance. The Tyranids have the fan vote, but THQ had said in the past they would not try to put the Tyranids in without a completely new engine, so we'll have to wait and see on that one. SOB would make a great alternative to either of the above, since they are also very easy to incorporate, and have some very cool units nowadays (Penitent Engines anyone?) SOB and DE/Tyr also maintains the balance of Chaos v. Order based armies (Necron are their own faction: "Die, meat.")
Regardless, can't wait for spring; between this and WAR it's going to be one hell of a year for Warhammer fans.
