If you were one of those folks that sat around all day playing with Rockstar's web-based Beaterator music mixer when it was released a few years back, now would be a good time to pick up a PSP.
Rockstar has just announced Beaterator coming this summer to a PlayStation Portable near you, as well as a partnership with music producer Timbaland provide original music and a built-in sound kit for the game.
"I've always been a huge fan of Rockstar and love playing their games," said Timbaland. "I'm thrilled to be partnering with them and making music for Beaterator. I cannot wait to get this in the hands of our fans!"
The PSP version of the popular web-based app will include all of the beat making tools of the original, along with original games and challenges made specifically for the portable system.
If you ask me, this is exactly the type of app the PSP needs. Not just a rehash of a title already made twenty times on a console. Now if only I had a sense of rhythm.
Rockstar Games teams up with Timbaland to present Beaterator for the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system
New York, NY - March 14, 2007 - Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is pleased to announce that it has teamed up with super-producer Timbaland to present Beaterator for the PSP system. Developed by Rockstar Leeds, Beaterator will be available this summer.
"Music has always been a hugely important part of everything we do here," said Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games. "Two years ago, we launched a web-based version of Beaterator on our own website and people really embraced it. That inspired us to build and create something very interactive and unique. Having Timbaland involved in the game is a real honor and only adds to our excitement about the title."
"I've always been a huge fan of Rockstar and love playing their games," said Timbaland. "I'm thrilled to be partnering with them and making music for Beaterator. I cannot wait to get this in the hands of our fans!"
Beaterator for the PSP system is both a powerful music mixer with robust beatmaking features, as well as a highly addictive collection of original music and rhythm games and challenge modes - all available in the palm of your hand.

The PSP needs a music sequencer that got turned into a game? Yeah, that's what the PSP needs.
I'm sure they'll have a program running in the background that uploads whatever you create straight to Timbaland.
Oh yeah! I used to love to play PSPKick back when I had homebrew on my PSP. I was hoping that someone would bring a game out for PSP like this for now I have upgraded my firmware. Thanks RockStarGames.
Well, the PSP already has a fantastic drum machine/sequencer that probably already has 50% more features than Beaterator will (except the "games"), and it's free. Unless Beaterator is more intuitive, offers more effects, customizable samples, waveform generators and allows you to actually use your music without liscensing issues (most handheld "music" making games don't legally allow for you to publish music you make from the game), then there is no point.

Yes please. Now Nintendo needs to get on localizing band brothers so we can have portable console sound mixer wars. We could start a whole new rivalry/clubscene/phenomenon!
@denki: Yeah I hope RockStar knows that there are homebrew apps out there that do all of this for free and they top those apps.
Am I the only person in gaming that would rather play real instruments rather than a simulation within a video game? I hate these music and rhythm games. Which I guess would make me the minority.
Good thing the press release conveniently left contact information at Rockstar Games.

Great choice for a video game music artist, Mr. Bennett. Make sure you keep your other video game music assets locked up during Timbaland's visits to your office.
@jackal888:
When you USED to have homebrew?
Haven't you seen the Dark Alex custom firmware?
You can have all the fancy new firmware features AND homebrew, all without reboots. It's beautiful.
Ahh everyone's favorite copyright breacher! Go Timba, Go! There's a lot to steal at Scene.org, surely great material for a video game :-]

...
"Beaterator" ?
Damn, all of you have beat me to the Timbaland slamfest. Seriously, this guy can eat chinpo for all I care. Ripping off other peoples music is not cool ... sure, hip-hop is primarily based on sampling, but you have to clear those samples to be able to use them ...
Somehow Timbabland thinks he's god and doesn't have to clear any samples. Please, don't support this game ... Timbaland is waaayyy to rich for his own good, and he's a biter.
so, is timbaland related to the shoes or what ... ?
@noneother:
not related to the shoe brand "Timberland"
Timbaland knows beats... any fan of hip hop will attest to that.
Not just hip hop Jabbertrack ... he's also worked with Bjork, and some other electronica artists ...
Timbaland also knows how to steal someone elses material, without clearing samples.
@topaz420: Yeah I do have another PSP (my girlfriend's) where I could if I wanted to run custom firmware. but I don't. I got out of the PSP homebrew scene. I feel the innovations from the upgrades are better.
@dead_red_eyes: Its not stealing. Unclearing a sample and stealing are diffferent. It's not like the entire song was just lifted from the Finnish person.
If I were a rapper, my name would be "Payless".
@sdr309:
No, just 95% of it. I guess THAT'S okay, then.
Also, he used the guy's song for an "original" ringtone. Used. THE SONG. FOR A RINGTONE. You can't SAMPLE for a ringtone, you just USE THE SONG.
Yeah, he stole it alright. Not a thing anyone can say to prove otherwise.
@sdr309
Its close enough, Why are you defending a man who is a known thief, does he pay for your internet???
Story is simple enough:
I.Timbaland steals music makes money
Kid downloads song goes to jail
II. Timbaland then trys to sell music game to the gaming crowd
Crowd he "stole money" from is expected to buy his game
Timbaland, he was in Backstreet Boys or something, right?
The web-based Beaterator is pretty fun and addicting. Personally I don't think this should be a $50 game ($40s even a little much) unless the game has some sweet extras. The PSP really needs some fun stuff, meaning games without real plots or points, just open-ended and creative fun.
Great! Which button rips off indie scene artists?
Thanks for chiming in DarkHogosha and fludbucket.
sdr309, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. read fludbuckets comments and then get back to me ...
Timbaland, is a thief. Plain and simple. In the world of sampling (hip hop, electronica, dub, techno, whatever) you have to clear a sample before you put the track out for commercial use. Sure, you can rip off other peoples shit as much as you want in your own home, but the second that you put it out in the public eye without clearing the sample ... you've just made a big mistake.
Timbaland didn't clear shit, he outright stole the tune and then made tons of money off of it without clearing the sample or paying the guy money ...
Hell, what he did was even worse than stealing ...
It would be hilarious if the called this game "Master Beaterator".
And then ported it to Wii.
@dead_red_eyes: Yeah, but sample clearance is ridiculous bollocks anyway. Agreed that using the whole tune is a bit rich (and the youtube video comparison is pretty amusing in that regard).
Timbaland = Twat
To steal and change a line from the equally crappy 50 cent:
"I don't know what you heard about me
but you won't get a dollar outta me,
I've got no talent that you can see
Coz i'm a motherfucking G.I.M.P."
Too bad all the beats are going to be stolen from Guitar Hero II.
There's also http://www.traxxpad.com/
OMG, you guys are ripping this guy apart. Hip hop, rap is all about sampling other peoples work.
MPC 2000 For the win.
@CountLovE:
With permision
Forgive me for my naivety, but could someone point me to the incident you're all talking about where Timbaland stole someone's song? A link, or even something to throw into google. k thankssss
