For the release of Guitar Hero III, Activision is partnering with Gibson to include over twenty of the guitar manufacturer's most recognizable guitars. Activision is bringing the newly dubbed Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock to the PlayStation 2, Wii, Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 this fall, each with its own wireless guitar controller, with the PS2 receiving a new Kramer-styled axe.
In addition to the new controllers, Activision also formally announced the sequel's new modes, including
"grueling boss battles" and "expanded online multiplayer game modes." The company also promised an unprecedented number of original master recordings.
Additional details on the game and shots of the new controllers are available over at Gaming-Age.

Must get.
Rock band's Stratocaster=SUPERIOR
Cool that the Wii remote plugs right into the controller.
Oh snap, Wii remote slot. Is that old news? >_>;
That's pretty interesting actually. This means that the Wii guitar will be wireless and that it may utilize the accelerometers in the Wii remote. The guy on screen could mimic your motions swinging the guitar around.
Would it be too much to ask for a guitar that didn't look like it belongs in the room of a toddler? I despise all things Fender and EA, but the Rock Band axe looks 100 times better than this cartoony POS. Now if I could just get a controller that looks like a Paul Reed Smith, I'd have nothing to bitch about.
This may very well be my first Guitar Hero game!!
That guitar just screams Johnny Cash.
@Spartan1308: And that means A CHEAPER GUITAR! Wii users just saved a ton of money!
Hot *damn*, that guitar looks awesome, and the Wii remote integration looks very natural. Hope that the PS2/PS3 controllers look that good.
@Dave Silva: I wouldn't bet on it.
@TrojanMan88:
Laughable considering that make fails in comparison to most Gybsons.
at first I thought they were releasing multiple GH3 guitars and you can choose which model to buy, this is less cool but still cool.
I hope they add Jimmy Page's signature double neck guitar.
I can't believe how hyped i am for gh3 its manly due to the fact that i only have a wii and after playing a demo unit in circuit city i can't stop thinking about it.
Wiimote slot! YAY!
Having changeable faceplates is a good idea, too. Gonna have some fun with that one!
Also, there seems to be an analogue stick on the Wii controller...
@Seven_Is_Darker:
You must mean Gibsons. And I'm more of a Fender man myself, better upper fret access/lighter weight/twangy tone.
Tis ugly.
@Spartan1308: If the wii version does something like that, I think I may actually buy that version of the game.
What to do, what to do? Both this and Rock band look awesome, and both are going to be at least $100 ($200 for the Rock Band package with all the accessories). Which means it's only worth getting one or the other. I guess it will basically comes down to which has the better song list.
The first game to add a Tool song gets my money.
Any thoughts on why the Wii version has a analog stick on the upper left of the guitar (at least I think that's what it is) while the other versions (except for PS2) appear to have a 2-button setup?
what the hell is with the ps2 strat? i thought it was gibson...
Codemonkey: the other controllers' second buttons are the home buttons. Apparently you just need to press the one on the Wii remote to use it there.
I'm most excited about the removable neck. It'll make it so much easier to transport that guitar than the pain in the ass it was to bring around the explorer.
If the Rock Band guitar works with this game, I'm buying one of each.
Im sorry guys, but I just cant get excited by this after seeing rock band..
I've played both guitar hero's and a third will probaly be more of the same except a couple of good songs and some faceplates..
Rock band gets my money Im afraid..
Unless Guitar hero 3 adds the entire Queen, guns n roses and Oasis back catalogues then Im sitiing this one out..
The original Guitar hero will always have a special place in my heart though..
I hope they make humbuckers on the in game guitars all angular again! It looked totally X-TREME!
@BananaKid: Thanks for the info.
I figured the Wii version would look like that.. looks nice
Not bad, though I still lean more towards Rock Band.
@hooligans: i belive that that is a kramer guitar, since they're also featured in the game
That actually looks like the Wii's Nunchuck is buried in there too (the analogue stick) - interesting...
i must say that the guitar hero 3 guitar looks like a cardboard box put together in the shape of a les paul.
Yeh, hoping that Rock Band comes out on the Wii but probably going to get both that and this eventually. (I hope this controller will be compatable with rock band should it come out on the Wii)
Cool...but that is a strange place to put the Remote...
@scndmg: No, I would actually bet on it.
@wogsy: You could just pick up GH3 for the ps2 and get rock band for your next-gen of choice... It is pretty tempting for me to do that, but I'll probably get gh3 on PS3, even tho I don't have one yet, so when I get one I can pawn off my PS2.
I wish this guitar had the Rock Band fret style. Gibson > Fender.
That's right.
wii/ps2 versions are $90
ps3/360 versions are $100
@balliinn: What? Why the price hike? GH1 and GH2 were both 70-80, why would it jump up 20-30 now?
The guitars look silly compared to the Fender guitar for Rock Band. They aren't even trying to improve the peripheral like what they're doing with the Stratocaster for RB. I really don't know if GHIII is going to be worth my money. What's with the pretentious subtitle "Legends of Rock"? Their tracklist doesn't even agree with that on the whole.
@Aex:
wireless guitars only thats the bump in price thats my guess.
ill be buying gh3 but no guitar.id rather get rockbands guitar, it looks better and hendrix used it so thats a win!plus i already have my gh2 guitar
I hope those are still concepts, because that plain white color is downright fugly. PS2 one's looking nice.
As others have stated though, Rock Band is going to be so much more superior to this in every way, I don't see how anyone could be excited for this game.
I'll be saving my money for whenever I get a 360 or PS3 to purchase Rock Band.
Holy shit, that's a sweet looking Wii guitar.
Gibson owns Kramer... the "strat" has the Kramer banana/hockey stick headstock. It's still a Gibson, technically.
im leaning torwards RB just because it is a complete band, unlike GHIII. although a fantastic set list could sway my opinion
@Red_Maniac: Well, where else would it fit? Other than the neck, but then it would look a bit out of place.
I like the idea of having "boss battles" in the game, which I would interpret to be versus against the CPU. Games like Amplitude had the concept of "boss songs," but being able to play versus mode in Guitar Hero against the CPU could be fun.
I'm actually a little concerned that my wiimote wont fit as I have the nyko wiicharge kit and it adds thickness to the battery compartment.
It makes me laugh seeing you people talk about these fuckin things as though they're real guitars, when their pieces of shit that remind me of something I played with when I was 2. I'm buying this game...uhhhhh wait I know how to play guitar for real, so I don't need a game to pretend...so nevermind.
@DomDeluigi: Record yourself doing something cool on a real guitar and prove it or shut the fuck up.
@DomDeluigi:
well i do need to pretend soo W000TT GUITARS!
also can you play all the songs in gh2 or gh1 perfectly like i can pretending?
pretending rules!
you can take your real guitar and crappy talents out of here because bongo my bear can play the harmonica like a god,and pringles my imaginary pet iguana plays drums and we tour through neverland.We sell out all venues too.
i dont where im going with this so ill stop.
I've got plenty recorded already now, but I don't have to prove shit to cockmouths on the web. Also I'm not about to make music available to be stolen since I the work is not yet copyrighted. You must be stupid if you think I'm worried about whether or not you think I can play. So get as pissy with me about this subject as you want. I know I'm not losing my hair over it. In fact I'm finding your bunched up panties rather funny.
@DomDeluigi:
my knotting panties are not a laughing matter!
who the fuck wants to steal your shitty music anyways?
w00t internet fight!
... something is copyrighted once you create it, so..
1) Burn your tracks to a CD
2) Go to down to the bank, get some sort of notarized document
3) Put all of this in a safe deposit box.
4) Come back here and back yourself up or stop being one of those douches that always has to come into anything Guitar Hero related and brag about being able to actually play a guitar. You know what? Good for you. But if you're going to brag, back it up.
