So. It's actually Halloween now. Time to celebrate by busting out the truly special pumpkins. Not special as in "damn, this is a fine piece of pumpkin crafting" (though this is still great!), but special as in "thank you, someone thought to carve a Day of the Tentacle Pumpkin". No, really. Thank you, Nert.

What CNAS said...
Now all we need are purple pumpkins.
I feel like I could...TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
I love all these pumpkins that eveybody is carving. I wanna see some FF characters though!
@Machzy: Final Fight? yeah! (you know thats what you meant really)
Awesome. Now all we need is a Sam and Max one, or better yet, Commander Keen
@elronathon: Hahaha. Gross! I wanna see some Squall or Cloud!
I changed my Avatar but when will it start showing up on the comments?
the elvis mummie with spaguetty can make a interesting halloween themed character.
also day of tentacle is another univers. a universe where you can play videogames!.. (actually maniac mansion, only)
OMG!!!!
That's soo cool. I didn't care about pumpkins until I saw this one.
You won't believe me but I'm currently working my way through DOTT (for the 6th time maybe?) on the Nintendo DS with Scumm VM DS.
Awesome!
That pumpkin should be the winner!!! Wait, was there a contest? Well, there should be, and that pumpkin should win!
@Woodwater: I believe you, I'm currently playing through it again also! I am well-stocked with classic adventure games and I love replaying them. Thank God for ScummVM and DosBox!
Can we have a Stan of Stan's Previously Used Vessels pumpkin next please, complete with foot-tapping?
Is DOTT a game that can be played by someone who never grew to love it the first time around, or is the graphical leap too large?
I played maniac mansion on the NES, and liked the format, and then I missed out on DOTT. I tried to go back and play MM a while ago and found it near impossible. The game, while great in my youth, was too far gone (visually speaking) to really be playable. I played it for an hour or so, and i can't imagine how quickly someone would have dropped it without the power of nostalgia pushing them forward.
I've noticed this trend with the rise of game emulation, and how easy it is to play the games of yore. Many of the games I recommend to my friends fall flat because it is too big of a step back for someone who never played it when it was originally released.
So, track it down? Or did I miss out by not getting to it sooner?
It's definitely not too late to play and enjoy DOTT. Grab the game off your favorite torrent site if you don't have access to it, and download ScummVM [www.scummvm.org] to play it on your platform of choice.
@zodcham:
DOTT holds up very well. The cartoony graphics are still beautiful and the voice acting/writing lose none of their charm.
P.S. I want to kiss the carver of this particular pumpkin on the fucking mouth. Like a big, wet, Bugs Bunny style smooch, right on the kisser!
When I saw the picture my first thought was, "Oh noes, it's Plankton!" Yes, I have kidz.
*whilst traveling through a spinning time vortex*
"This must be that Woodstock place my parents are always talking about..."
Sweet Jesus, I do love that game.
