SCEA has announced the pricing for the forthcoming PS3 downloadable / PSP playable PlayStation 1 games that will soon be available for download via the PlayStation Store. Be prepared to spend anywhere from $5.99 to $10.99 for the privilege of using your $600 console as a download service so your $200 handheld can play games from a $10-20 system, essentially making the PlayStation 3 the most expensive PSP peripheral ever.
Sony hopes to cut the PS3 out of the loop eventually, allowing the PSP to download the games directly. The functionality would certainly make purchasing the handheld much more enticing. I don't currently have one myself, and the possibility of a portable Jumping Flash has my wallet twitching.
No word on what games are coming, and the only timeframe we have is "in the coming weeks," which could technically describe every week from now until the end of time. The Japanese downloads start today, so hopefully the U.S. console m nage trois isn't far behind.
