I continue to worm my way through the labyrinth that is California politics and laws. I received a call back from the spokesman at the waste management board who told me that on second thought the PSP isn't covered under the E-Waste fee. He then referred me to the people who make the decisions on what is and isn't included.
That guy told me that all LCDs greater than 4-inches are covered, but that the PSP wasn't. When I asked why, since it has a 4.3-inch screen, it isn't covered, he said because it was not specifically listed in the law. The law, I'll point out, was written up well before there was such a thing as a PSP. I pointed this out to him and he forwarded me to his agency's spokesman, who promptly told me that the PSP is, in fact, covered by the law.
What we have here, is a failure to communicate. I'm awaiting a call back from the latest flak, who is checking with his buddies and promises to get back to me in 15.
