Warhawk Gets Date and Price

warhawkpin.jpg

Everyone's favorite game developer Dylan Jobe just hopped onto the official Playstation Blog to announce both the date and the price(s) for the Warhawk. The game will go on sale in stores and on PSN on Aug. 28. The game will sell for $39.99 online and $59.99 in a store. The boxed version will come with some extra video content a manual and a Jabra Bluetooth headset.

Jobe points out that the game, while multiplayer only, is quite robust and says he feels it can easily deliver more than 70 hours of enjoyment. Most beta testers logged more than 30 hours and many more than 70.

Finally Jobe announced that the top 100 player in the beta are going to be receiving a fancy, very limited edition metal Warhawk Wings pin.

  • Actually, I got one of the wings pins from work through the Sony rep. :) Though I was also in the beta.

  • "100 player in the beta are going to be receiving a fancy, very limited edition metal Warhawk Wings pin.", LOL. why not a free copy of the game?

  • $20 that's a bit of a leap, will you have to install onto the hard drive i wonder? or will the boxed game save you the HD space that the downloadable one wont?

  • @Allenby: Same here. I wore it for about 5 minutes and then set it down on the counter. I wonder if it is still there. Not that I need it or anything.

  • The beta was awesome, would gladly pay 40bucks for it.

  • And a copy of the boxart signed by the developers. As seen in the background.

I guess this means EGM has to automatically drop a point from Warhawk's review because it's more than $30.

  • @ceilingFANBOY: Well 20 dollars jump in price with included Bluetooth headset is a good deal no?

  • They should get a free copy of the game, when I did beta testing for FF online, they gave beta testers a free copy of the game which included a 40g harddrive, it was a sweet deal!!

  • So those of us that couldn't find a ranked game or didnt want to get screwed then huh? Oh well, the pin is nice but I guess I can live without

  • 40 bucks? Are you fucking kidding me? 20 and we'll talk. But a downloadable multiplayer only game should NOT exceed 30 bucks at the most.

The most I ever payed for a game on live was 20 bucks canadian (i think) for Roboblitz.

  • @siamgx: Was that meant to be @ANDROVSKY ?

  • $20 bucks is a lot for a box.

  • $60 is a lot to pay for a multiplayer only game.

If your geting it are you going to download it or buy the game in stores.

  • Sweet! I've been wanting this game ever since I read initial impressions on the Beta. I can't wait to fly me some Warhawks

  • @androvsky:

Unfortunately, but EGM is just a bunch of jackasses anymore. I'm glad I put off renewing my subscription

  • sweet pin.

I find it funny how everyone was like "29.99 would be the sweet spot for online sales"

so they go ahead and make it 39.99.

    gg

  • @Marasai: Dont be stupid, Tekken 5 for PSN download is around 20 bucks, how would a PS3 game cost the same?

I dont see how 40 bucks is a lot. This is not a low budget game.

  • @alucard_0007: If you really want that pin and it is still at work I could send it to you.

  • @ceilingFANBOY:

send it to me isntead, i'll light it on fire. because i might get one anyway from the beta =D.

  • $20 for a box, some extra media content, and a free Jabra Bluetooth headset?

The headset alone, is worth about $20. Only something like a "Soyo" knock off is under that price.

  • @ceilingFANBOY:

Nah that's ok. It's pretty sweet but I don't accept things I didn't earn, that would be wrong

  • @krozall: And a jabra bluetooth headset.

  • I hardly think that standing around swinging keys all day qualifies as "earning" the pin. By the time I go back to work on Monday it will probably be gone anyway.

  • @krozall: @VenoMuS: @Marasai:

If you read closer you'll see you don'tjust get a box for twenty bucks, you get a blue tooth headset as well as some added video content.

Thats a steal for anyone who doesn't have one for their PS3 already. Or for anyone who doesn't want to mess trying to keep your cellphones charged to play warhawk and use your phone.

I'll gladly pay for the boxed price just to support the game. But to give me a BT Headset for $20 more ... its foolish not to buy the boxed version.

  • If I got a bluetooth headset (wtf, why doesn't Firefox spell check recognize that? Bluetooth should be big enough in the tech world for them to include it), would all the voice chats in RFOM stop playing through the tv speakers at ridiculously loud levels? It is annoying when you are trying to play online and the voice chats are much louder than everything else going on, especially when playing at night.

  • @ceilingFANBOY:

Yeah lets hope so. But it is the same developers... So I'm a little worried. They could update the game to do that though- if enough people request it, I'd bet.

    -Niric

  • No kidding. I ended up turning off all voice chats when I was in the beta.

  • Ooh- and not to be too off topic- this exact same release date is the same for Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on the PSP. Be sure and pick that up too.

Its going to be a great next few months of gaming for me. Or not... I'm doomed actually. I'm going to be a zombie at work for at least a month strait.

    -Niric

  • @Yoko_Yasha:
That really speaks to the overpriced nature of tekken 5 on psn mor ethan anything else. The reason why I will always be against expensive DL games is because you can't get that money back. You don't own the content and should sony decide to pull the plug on the servers, you are boned. You also can't sell the game or trade it in. You are stuck.

    @Niric:

I'm sorry but including vidos that will hit the net in about 5 minutes after the game ships as well as a perohperal that should have shipped with the machine itself do not account for 2-0 bucks.

  • Image of Scazza Scazza at 09:15 PM on 08/03/07 *

End of August? Damn thats so soon, i was expecting Oct/Nov release... Awesomeness. PS3 first killer online ap?

  • The headset model worth $45 retail $24 on amazon. And has some descent ratings on cnet etc

  • I'll be getting the boxed version. Simply because I don't yet have a bluetooth head set.

  • How do you turn off the Resistance voice chats without individually muting all of the players who have a mic? By the time you would have a chance to do that, you have already died 3 times.

  • @Heihachi.vs.Kazuya: Same here, i was debating on if i wanted to pick one up today. If i end up picking one up between now and then, i'll just download it. I can't wait for this!

  • I should get a bluetooth headset just so I can randomly insult players for no reason.

  • $60 for a multi player only game is a joke even if it comes with a headset.

  • @Marasai:

"as well as a perohperal that should have shipped with the machine itself do not account for 2-0 bucks."

What do you mean, should? The system cost us less than it did for Sony to make it. Why in the hell "should" they give us a BT headset too? You're just one of those people who won't be happy with something at any price. Even a decent one.

So the PS3 controller shipped with rechargeable batteries built into them- and the Xbox 360 or the Wii didn't. Does that mean they're not up to your standards either?

The video part- sure. Thats why I put the Bluetooth headset in bold- as that was worth 20 bucks on its own.

That looks like the one their throwing in with the game box. Amazon is asking $27.57 for it. Not a bad deal if you ask me- if its the same model and my guess is correct. I guess we'll see.

    -Niric

  • @Marasai: It's not some shitty live arcade game or some little PSN title. It's a fully functional game, just being sold through digital distribution. The game is much larger and has a lot more content than Shadowrun did, and that sold for 60 by itself.

  • @madman83: Thats why you can buy it for $40 if you don't want the head set. The game itself is 40 bucks. For 20 more you get a disc with extras and a headset.

  • @madman83:
So pay $30 for it on PSN.

You make it sound like if it had offline mode you would actually play it. If Halo 2 had no offline mode- no one would have cared. Mutiplayer online is why everyone buys the game. And we had to pay for a Xbox Live account to play online too. You don't even have to do that.

So think of it as just an option that got axed because they knew no one would play offline much really anyway.

    -Niric

  • $40??? I blame Shadowrun. ;)

At $30 I would have immediately picked this up. I know $10 doesn't seem like much more, but as others have said, I can't justify the price. Guess I'll rent the disc version.

  • @madman83: What about the people who pay for subscriptions to MMOs? They end up spending way more than $60.

  • @Niric:

Er, pay $40 for it on PSN. Sorry typo.

    -Niric

  • Only people who have not played it would claim 40$ is too much, especially if you enjoy online action. The game is very large, well rounded and an extremely fun title. While i only played it for a few hours at a friends house, it was quiet good in beta stage already.

  • @Crull:

You sir have nailed it, it's only too much for those that haven't played it

  • @Niric: If it did have an offline I wouldn't hesitate to play it. This is the same problem I had with Shadowrun.I enjoy single player way more than multi player any day of the week. Usaully I look for a good single player when I choose a game wether it has online or any mutli player is a far off consideration if any.

    @ceilingFANBOY:
For MMO's you play for the social interations of the game. Look at WoW it is basically one big social gathering. There for it is diffrent then warhawk were the main focus is basically trying to figure out who is better than who.

  • @Crull: Yup, played it all the time when I was in beta, was one of my favorite games and really missed it. I will probably get the download since it will be available August 28 while most retailers wont have the packaged version till a couple days later.

I paid 60 bucks for shadowrun, and that was a big mistake. But Warhawk for 40 is well worth it. The game has a whole lot more content, options, features, and support. Incognito really did a great job of creating a fully functional online game, and not a shoddy half assed title like shadowrun was.

Course people spend 60 bucks on games with single player campains they play once or last a couple hours, and pretty much just use it for online play. Heck GRAW2 was a little over 4 hours long only.

  • @Niric:

Hey! I would have cared if halo 2 didn't have a single player mode... That's one of my favorite single player FPS's...es.

  • @madman83: Their is social aspects to shooters online. Just because you never got involved doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Lot of clans and such get together in these games and just have fun playing together and hanging out. How social you will be is up to you.

  • Im sorry what did people pay to play battlefield 2 when it first came out? Cause i know i payed over 40 dollars and im pretty certain that game is online only (i think its 20 now). Lets be perfectly honest, all the people complaining dont have ps3's, they are most likely fanboys who like to bitch. I personally dont have a ps3 or a 360, i do have a wii and i hate it. Point is fanboy trolling is lame especially when you're bitching about a price of a game on a system you dont own.

  • Instant messengers and online blogs like Kotaku are free, why pay a monthly or bi monthly fee to network with people? Besides, MMOs aren't the only games that have social networking.

  • Sorry, $60 is too much for a multiplayer only game.

  • @Mpalm: I agree. Halo 2's single player was pretty good...much better than the first one, which I didn't like much.

The co-op play was a lot of fun too.

  • As I've said since day one: No Hatch, no Walker, no deal.

  • I think most people were saying the price should be around $30. It does sort of seem like whatever people think something should be, you can basically just add $10 and that's what it'll actually be.

    [alinktothefuture.com]

  • @reddevil: Is $40 enough? If Shadowrun retailed at $40, I would've snapped that sucker up.

  • Well what I'm getting at as using Halo as an example is- Warhawk was built for online play. So making it limited to that can't be considered that big of a loss. Sure it would be great if it had a single player mode but I doubt it harms to the game to be lacking of it.

Maybe Battlefield 1942 or Battlefield 2 (For the PC) is a better example than Halo 2. BF2 had an offline mode but it was just a soulless skirmish mode that lacked any form of depth. I would only expect the same out of Warhawk given its online built design. But who knows. I feel confident it will be a great game without it. Maybe something to look forward to in Warhawk 2.

  • Have a question, is it possible to load the entire retail version to harddrive and does it access much faster? I would love to not get off my fatass and run the game that way. I hope I can find a better deal when I purchase a PS3 in the near future, a little to much for cheap bastards like me.
