Game site GameDaily sat down with Sega of America Marketing VP Scott Steinberg and discussed the upcoming console brawl. His thoughts?
While Steinberg states that the PS3's pricing is "within expectations" for such a powerful machine and that the machine will definitely sell out, he does concede that the pricetag "is a concern." Scott says:
Whether that's after the 5th million or 6th million unit is sold, that's super arguable and they're going to have to lifecycle price the hardware in a way that brings it to the masses, I would think relatively soon, because it is expensive. For a lot of families that's too expensive.
I certainly agree that a price drop will be needed to make the machine affordable for some folks. But, I don't see that happening until later—way later. But, are consumers willing to wait?
