PS3's UK 82% Sales Drop "Meaningless"

Next-Gen is reporting that Chart-Track, the consoles sales data provider in the UK and Ireland, has said that the 82% drop in PLAYSTATION 3 sales after its initial launch week is really quite meaningless. My response to Chart-Track? Duh!

We can safely chalk up the perceived importance of a post launch sales week dip to attention grabbing headlines and anti-Sony fanboys looking for morsels of FUD. But Chart-Track director Dorian Bloch told Next-Gen:

A figure of an 82% drop has leaked out but that alone means nothing. Given how much pent up demand there was for PS3 and given the sophistication of pre-order systems now, it really doesn't mean anything.

As we all know by looking at early sales data, early sales data pretty much means zilch. But isn't it fun to watch, week after week, month after month? Just gives me chills everytime a new NPD or Media Create report is released. I'm off to take a cold shower.
