No longer content to advertise in places trolled by 360 gamers, Microsoft, it seems, has taken out a back page ad in the latest PS3 magazine for the Xbox 360's Gears of War.
I suppose that's not as gutsy as occupying the borders of the Gamespot Playstation 3 pages.

That's hilarious. Um, could you scan the GoW2 article and post it? Thanks!
Wasn't this magazine cancelled?
At netvai:
Nah, its not canceled. I still get it every month....
Wow, the back cover, too. Was one of the editors not paying attention?
Sorry, why are we getting excited here?
PSM3 is not the "Official" PlayStation magazine in the UK and is published by the same company that issues the Official Xbox 360 magazine, Future.
Microsoft have been taking out ads in this magazine for as long as I can remember. Do you really think that the publisher is going to decline £££ because the ad is for a console not covered in the mag?!
Slow news day, huh?
PS2 mag was cancelled, but they basically just rolled up the old mag into this new PSM3 mag.
Also the mag is not strictly a SONY thing, they have had adverts for other systems games in it before actually, especially Microsoft games.
classy
microsoft has some cajones! and why would sony let this happen?
I effen Love it!!
BALLS! BRASS BALLS!!
with all the advertising sony is doing for MS, its awesome (like the PGR on PSP site)
OWNED!!!
Its kinda sad that a magazine named PSM3 has a ps2 game on its cover
thats awesome but yeah we would all love scans of the God of War 2 article...cant wait til march!
"microsoft has some cajones! and why would sony let this happen?"
Did you even read any of the comments above yours, stating that it's not an official Sony magazine, so it's no big deal? That it's common practice for other games not for ps2/3 to do this?
I love their audacity.
Wow, Sony has some cojones, naming the official Colecovision magazine "PSM3"! and why did Atari let this happen?
Hmm that is oronic that the PS3 mag has a PS2 game for the cover.
Ugh
It's not the PS3 mag, its PSM3, as to represent all 3 SONY systems. PS2 mag and such was shut down months ago, so they make PSM3 the ALL SONY magazine. Notice on the cover how it even states all three consoles?
Its also not an official SONY magazine, its a private company
OPM was cancelled, not PSM.
All the PSM guys have XBOX 360's, so seeing this advertisement should NOT be a surprise. Gamefly ads are in there two showing 360 games...so it's really not that big of deal.
That is hilarious Gears of War invasion, How do the even allow this.
Good, let them help fund a playstation only fan magazine with their advertising dollars! More importantly, that cover of GofW 2 looks smooth ...
GoW2 is the PS2's "ultimate game killer"? That doesn't sound too promising...
So what? This is such fanboy mentality. Many of us own multiple consoles, and even if you don't it doesn't mean the other should be bashed. I'm sure there are a lot of Resistance owners that are interested in GoW, and vis versa. Screw this sensationalist crap.
(in response to previous post)
I think it says
PLAYSTATION 2"s ULTIMATE GAME.
KILLER first playtest inside.
Amazing how many peole dont READ THE OTHER POSTS!
Anyway, yeah, still funny.
Finally, a playstation-based magazine has something interesting in it.
(=
I know PSM advertises games for all systems but I think its kinda dumb. IMO, people who buy mags focusing on one console tend to only own or mostly play that console. I mean I had OPM and EGM for a while but I only read OPM when I played my PS2 a lot and stuff so a non-PS related advertisment seems a little wasteful.
Honestly I find the old OPM crew less sell-out than the PSM writers, even if OPM had official Sony blessing. Sure, OPM didn't have any MS or MS-exclusive ads inside, but I've found PSM writing somewhat less objective, which suggested to me that they were more at the mercy of whoever paid the piper.
@Bugbread
hahahaha, well done
This magazine was actually really nice.... about the time FFVII/ Symphony of the Night came out. Since then it's had a complete staff turn-over and redesign, and it sucks....
They occasionally still do have nice art issues.. nothing I'd shell out extra dough over. "Game Informer" is actually a pretty good magazine as far as options go...they have some extremely hard-to-find info in there occasionally, like the 360 Tri-Ace game
We've seen Xbox games being advertised in area, we've seen Sony use Xbox 360 games to promote their own games, I think at this point nothing shoudl surprise anyone.
This fanboy mentality has got to go ... Sony has been getting dogged on lately, and rightfully so, but it's because of their ineptitude, and failure to understand what gamers really want. The minute M$ starts fucking up everyone should be all over their case. Fanboy's suck and are blinding themselves to what is important in gaming, and that's, um, gaming. It's still gaming right? Our are we all going to be fucking corporate cheerleaders?
Maybe it isnt official but they dont have dignity¿?
Regarding GoW2 being a PS2 game - I own PS2 and PS3, and I'm glad to see that they're still making games for PS2. It has such a huge installed base of gamers that it'd be dumb to just halt all games for the system.
Unfortunately, The same can't be said for MS, who totally dumped all software support for XBOX 6 months before the 360 came out.
feelz good wins.
it has, is, and ever will be a big advertising cluster fuck. i'm really surprised this is actually posted as news. i'm almost willing to bet a vital organ that i could walk over to any stack of games mags (dating as far as years and years back) and find advertisements for everyone everywhere...
Don't get too excited about this folks. As long as a magazine ticks the right demographic boxes, then marketing types will book the space.
And the point of this article is? This isn't even news.
Huh? That's just normal business, also Xbox Magazines will have ads from Sony or Nintendo and vice versa.
SLOOOOOOOW (BAD NON-)NEWS DAY!
This is not new, you know. Back when I was reading Sega Power, you used to see SNES ads all the time.
Slow news day, was it?
Kyle81 says:
"Ugh
It's not the PS3 mag, its PSM3, as to represent all 3 SONY systems."
actually it says "THE PLAYSTATION 3 MAGAZINE" right at the top
"slow news day!" "nothing to see here!" "keep moving along!" "you are bias!"
grow up guys. and learn the meaning of 'news'
Thank you SuicideNinja, I was sure it was OPM that got cancelled, not PS2 magazine - which I assume means PSM, which looks like it has morphed into PSM3. And even though PSM was never the official Sony magazine, I let my subscription run out sometime before the PS3 launch because the writers seemed drunk on the Sony kool-aid. I wonder what they're like now, with Sony's recent gaffs being hard to ignore.
And a tip for the kotaku editors - including a little poll after articles, with options like "this is news? slow news day?", "Microsoft has balls", etc, would cut down on some of the repeated comments.
The Official PlayStation Magazine (OPM) was cancelled. This is PlayStation Magazine (PSM)... notice the "official" part of the title missing.
OPM had game demos. PSM only has videos of games on a DVD.
Well, most people who read a 360 oriented magazine would most likely own a 360, and 1 in 4 of them would own a copy of Gears of War. Whereas on PSM3, MS is tapping a potentially larger 360-less market. From a business point of view, yes, it makes sense. Although I suspect the PSM3 management and Sony are not to exactly going to be seeing each other eye to eye after this.
Just want to clarify the obvious US/UK confusion.
OPM (US, Official) was closed.
PSM (US, unofficial) published by Future is still alive.
PSM3 (shown here) is by Future, but published in the UK.
