Quoth Sony CEO Howard Stringer:
The Price of the PS3 is high, but you're paying for potential.Obviously, it's a higher-risk strategy—as all new inventions are—but if the PS3 lives up to its total potential, then I don't think anyone will be worried about Nintendo or Xbox's cheaper price.
Oh please. You don't pay for potential on the say-so of some weasel in a suit. You pay for potential based upon the glimmers of potential already visible in a person or product. Right now, what does the PS3 have? Graphics equivalent to the far cheaper 360. Blu-Ray, which could very well be this century's Betamax. A controller that is inferior to a PS1 controller released 7 years ago. A murky, curiously undefined online model. Are you really going to invest for potential based on the say-so of a guy who looks like this?
