It certainly has gotten off to a rocky start, but a study by market research firm Datamonitor predicts that not only will the PlayStation 3 recover from its first stumbling steps, but rise to the top of the console heap with an install base of near 75 million by the year 2010. The PS2, by comparison, had sold upwards of 100 million units as of earlier this year.

I don't know what research the firm had to do to come up with these calculations and predictions. It would be interesting to see how, in the current gaming climate, they managed to come up with these results. Looking at the state of things as they are now it is hard to imagine, but despite my disappointment at titles and the price so far I know the PS3 has the power to become a dominating force in the industry, just like its older siblings have in the past.
