Yeah, it's a seemingly minor front in the console wars, but some people care more than a little about the environment. Or their power bills.
To help these people out, hardCORE (ungh), using a power meter, put the 360, PS3 and Wii to the test. Oh, and a PC too. Each is rated on their consumption during games, video file playback, DVD playback, HD DVD playback and when left idle.
So the Wii's already "won" two of the categories, then.
The winners of each of the categories are (listed in rank):
- During Video Gameplay - Wii, 360, PS3, PC
- During DVD playback - 360, PC, PS3
- During High-Def DVD playback - 360, PS3
- During idle - Wii, PC, 360, PS3
- During standby - Wii (Connect24 off), PS3, 360, Wii (Connect24 on)
So overall, the Wii uses the least juice while the PS3 cost you the most at the end of every month. Poetic. Full figures if you hit the link below.
