The Nintendo Film contest entries I saw, they weren't so hot. Truth be told, they were mostly shite, which accounts for why I stopped watching them. Also accounts for why I hadn't seen this, the winner, by Jack Paccione, Jr. It's called Good vs. Wiivil. And is really quite charming.
Jack scored $10,000 cash, while he and the other two finalists will have their films shown at Tribeca. He also gets a POWER LUNCH with festival co-founder Craig Hatkoff, where no doubt powerful things will be both eaten and discussed.

That movie suuuuucked. No way they deserved 10 grand for that snorefest.
that was extremely well planned out. My friends had an idea but it was nowhere near the scope of that video.
The guy didn't put on the wii strap at the end.
That was quite frankly extremely awesome.
The editing was really snappy and I'm still trying to figure out how they composited that pause section.
....wow.
I lawl'd at the lollipop part.
he looks like jimmy kimmel (too lazy to look up how to spell his name properly)
Not $10k worthy, imho. Out of the top 10 I enjoyed Nintendo News Network, Pretendo, and the Last Wii the most. I still think the Punchout trailer should've won. That's just me though. :P
@khdownes: They most likely copied one frame, photoshopped it to remove the background and only show the blue shirt guy and the person getting the ice cream, recorded a segment of the WiiGood guy getting up and leaving and coming back (without the blue shirt guy in the scene), and then spliced that into the rest of the video with that one cut out section overlapping.
@mst3kcrow:
Thank you, sir. I was just going to say it's an absolute shame the Punchout video didn't make it to the top ten, let alone win.
I guess I didn't hate the winner ...
Beautiful, just beautiful.
Got a good feeling from that video and I can actually see that as a commercial.
I don't think Nintendo expected the videos to turn out that bad.
Remember those fan-made wii commercials that looked really professional? They probably thought that people would submit stuff of that caliber.
Of course, this video isn't worth 10,000, but Nintendo can't back out of the deal.
What the Hell? The Punch-Out!! vid wasn't one of the top finishers?
Wiivil or Weevil?
[www.imdb.com]
"There! I have you! You're completely dished. Do you not know that in the service...one must always choose the lesser of two weevils?"
Not bad. It had its moments, and definitely had some good video editing.
I remember seeing that "Koopa Force" video long ago. It wasn't bad (definitely made for an interesting trailer), but something about the 3D modelling just throws me off...
"Nintendo Office" I found pretty funny.
But "Nintendo News Network" and "Punch-Out!!" were my favorites. How depressing "Punch-Out!!" wasn't even a finalist...
That was a well put together video. Haven't seen the others yet, but I thought that was a good short film in any case.
"Nintendo Office" I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw it... This one... was ok.
The Punch Out one was so much better than all of these... not even in the top 10... c'mon =/
I really hate the part where it pauses. Just seems like it hangs forever, for no reason. The obnoxious sipping/lip-smacking noises really don't help, either. Also, the video looks like more of a commercial for Carvel than for Nintendo.
It's also pretty unfair that "Koopa Force" is actually an old video. Everybody else had only 3 weeks to make their videos, so why were they allowed to enter one that took them many months to make?
That was a lot more original than the Punch out commercial everyone's talking about. This deserved to win. Best part : when he suddenly hands the boy the lollipop instead of popping the balloon.
There was this short about a kid trying to beat puchout, now, that can get a prize, not this piece of shit. After seeing this I REGRET not making a video myself with some toys and lots of strings.
Wiivil doesn't wear his wrist strap! Tsk tsk...
I hated this clip. From the hack opening (only assholes start a clip with an alarm clock) to the smug expressions on the faces of the actors, the only thing I really got out of this is that it shows off flaws with the Wii. People are using the Wii with the wrong hands (not so intuitive now!), the controller is often unresponsive (maybe there is a Wiivil in my living room), the lights displayed on the Wiimote are not consistent, only one out of the four Wii users puts on the Wii strap... Oh, and if the only good game for the Wii ends up being an ice-cream shop simulator, I should just sell it now.
@VakeroRokero:
A garauntee you, that you could not make a better movie than this.
ESPECIALLY not in 3 weeks.
I found that entertaining. I hadn't really followed the contest, but that seemed pretty well done.
It was a nice touch having the good guy wear the wrist strap and the villain toss the remote around.
@RedFive: Probably intentional. He's evil, after all...
I like this one, and I also liked the other top-10 entries. There were some great entries not among the top-10, but I don't quite get why everyone is so negative about the whole thing. Yeah, the movies could have been better, but they aren't terrible at all.
I thought Good vs Wiivil was one of the worst entries in the Top 10. It's well done and a genuine idea, but its execution was lacking.
I thought Nintendo Office was the best. It could have been a bit better if they spoofed a few things from The Office to spice it up. Although, Link sounding like a 40-year old chain smoker kind of freaked me out.
The one with the Nintendo News was really amusing too, perhaps just as good as the office once.
The Punchout video was leagues better than GvW and it wasn't even nominated for the Top 10!
Creative and well put together. I haven't seen the others, but this was a good watch.
I thought this was awesome! Congrats Jack for winning. Nintendo office was really funny too. But screw the rest of the top 10!
[www.youtube.com] <--- This deserved to be on the top 10!
--->wide angle lenses FTW
Haha, I love how WiiVil didnt wear his wrist strap.
I liked this one the best of what was in the Top 10, but everyone knows that the PunchOut vid is far and away the best thing anyone did.
