It looks like High Impact Games' portable take on the Ratchet & Clank series may be the latest PSP game to get a PlayStation 2 port. A listing for Ratchet & Clank Size Matters for the PS2 was uncovered by the eagle eyed staff at Joystiq today, one which points to the game shipping for the console February of next year. It's listed at $29.99, ten dollars cheaper than the PSP original.
While we don't have official word yet—we're waiting to hear back from SCEA—it certainly wouldn't surprise us to see yet another PSP game ported to the PS2. With one-time exclusive PSP titles such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Twisted Metal: Head On, Tokobot and (allegedly) Silent Hill Origins making the jump, it might just file under fiscally sensible.

Milk a good franchise why don't you.
Get working on FLC or the sequel to R&C:F already. Huh Insomniac, there's an idea :D
Oops, DLC*
Damn the no edit feature!
I for one am glad. I sold my PSP just before this came out and I'm dying to play it.
Every day I find more and more reasons why I was right to trade in my PSP. Every decent game that it gets comes out on PS2 better and cheaper.
@ Kumuasta:
Insomniac stated that they will switch on an off between the Resistance franchise and R&C franchise, so I'd come to believe that they are working on RFOM2.
^^In addition...
Insomniac doesn't work on SM, that's High Impact games that does.
I'd rather have these games on the PSP to be honest. Sans the Twisted Metal remake.
@Al2x:
They also stated some DLC. It's only fair :)
Btw I don't even have a ps3, so it doesn't really affect me >.>
Likely, with how commonplace PSP to PS2 ports are now. At least Twisted Metal Head-On: Extra Twisted is going to be more than the average port with the number of extra features that are being packed in (yet probably going to lack any online play).
Make it come true please. Make capcom & konami re-release there games on ps2 to make ps2 more alive again. i want to play the new castlevania games, Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins!!!!!
Looks kinda like a companion cube to Ratchet's left.
I like being able to play the same game on both...I would however ask that they have a way to give you a deal now that PSSTORE is available for PSP.
Why not allow me a coupon inside the PS2 version to buy the PSP version for $10?
It's always funny when little kids come in and are reciting the title of this game and clearly have no idea what the second meaning of the title is.
That kinda sucks. I like having PSP exclusives. Why don't they port some games from the PS2 to the PSP, that would be nicer.
Now if only Konami would port MGS: Portable Ops to the PS2, so I could play it without broken, useless controls.
If it is R&C and it will be released on a system I already own and enjoy, then I am all up ons.
That screen cap really makes me appreciate ToD a lot more.
So, does Sony even give two shits whether or not their current consoles succeed?
What's the point of expending so much energy to secure desirable exclusives for a system that's habitually accused of not having them?
When will Sony realize that continued support of the PS2 is doing them more harm than good?
For fuck's sake, just drop the goddamn thing already. It's like they're hell bent on turning the PS2 into some Simpsons-esque fiasco of unnecessary life support.
@ceilingFANBOY: I concur. TOD has incredible graphics compared to its predecessors...
@Nightshift_Nurse: Continuing support for the PS2 is Sony's way of appealing to the casual gamer. It is really the cheapest gaming system you can get (not counting GameCube since it has no support) and from my retail experience, I see that the consumers who have not bought a Wii generally are angry by the fact that Nintendo has abandoned the GameCube.
@ceilingFANBOY: Be that as it may, there are presumably better ways to do it than slowly siphoning off every major selling point for the PSP. This is would be a great time to start localizing all those games that never made it during the PS2's heyday. That worked just fine for artificially extending the PS1's lifespan.
Well, the difference in power between the PSP and PS2 is, well, marginal. PSP it, "barely," more powerful, but most PSP games don't USE all that power, simply to prolong battery life.
So, it should be darn cheap to port a PSP game to PS2, might even be able to add a few graphical tweaks here and there. With it being so cheap, its almost a crime not to, at least from the position of the those in charge of the development companies.
@jaymac: I had been thinking that since i first saw a companion cube. Gadgetron is your real friend.
@Nightshift_Nurse: I don't think that porting back and forth between PSP and PS2 is good, but Sony would lose a big market if they stopped supporting the PS2. Then again, there are so many games out for PS2 that there would be no way that anyone that can't afford a PS3 would have all of the games for the PS2. They could just rely on it's huge library to keep it afloat, but every PS2 sale is a potential leap frog into a PS3 later down the road. The PS2 is bringing a new crowd of people into gaming just like the Wii is. If we see a $30 price drop on the PS2 soon, they'll probably start flying off the shelves again, even though they are still moving pretty well for a last gen system.
For the PSP, I think they need to advertise that there is a remodel more. The average consumer has no clue that there is a new model. Also, they need to get more brochures out showing all the things that the PSP can do so people realize why it costs more than the DS. They also need to put out some games that appeal to girls and older players. It really is a system that for the most part only appeals to the young adult male crowd and could do much better if there were more games that girls could enjoy. Additionally, they need to bring the vibrant colors to the US. Having the majority of customers only having a choice between silver and black (not counting darth vader because that is too niche) doesn't give the consumer much choice, especially when silver only comes as a bundle.
tis an interesting rumor.
@jaymac,Accordion: gotta love that gadgetron.
This is a given with sony, just wait six months from chains of olympus release and you will get it on the PS2
Playing games on the PSP has so many problems already, with screen size, controls, etc. Dispite that I still like mine, but add in the fact that most of the good games make the more to the PS2 and I'm not left with much reason to buy games for it.
I'm sorry but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question. Is it a PC game?
Brilliant! Posting them so closely together.
Once again, I manage to not stay on topic, and then go back on topic at the end. I think I'll buy it for the Ps2, simply because I have too many PsP games to play right now as it is.
Seems like the PSP version has been $39.99 for an awfully long time now. I know it's great and all, but I'm cheap.
Greatest hits, anyone?
What on earth would they call this, though?
Ratchet & Clank: Size, and to Some Extents the Witty Innuendo found Within the Subtitles of our Games,is Relative to the Proportions of the Platform our Game is Appearing On, and Would in This Case be Called "Bigger is Better"?
Yes it is coming to PS2, I noticed that at work (Gamestop) today. It has a release date in late Feb ~21 right around the the release of Twisted Medal Head On for the PS2 (2 PSP to PS2 ports) for an MRSP of $40 (should be $20).
@Sandwiches
Thats b/c its one of the best PSP games, Killzone Liberation is only $25 used now and its a good game too.
Now when will FF Crisis Core be out. Square is all about milking ports. Just call it FF: Crisis Core Extreme Special Sunshine Remix edition or something.
Fun -_-
Port Mega Man Powered Up and Crush also please.
@jaymac: yeah, I was looking at that, too...
Of corse thedy'd need to upgrade it if they port it to the PS2, Size Matters.
*Rimshot*
this is why I hate the PSP, everytime we get a good game it gets ported over to the PS2 with a better upgraded and cheaper price tag, boy do I hate that.
@Ollivander: I dunno... Never played any of the ratchet games before, been playing this for a bit, seems kinda meh to me. Maybe its the lack of dual analogs on the psp, but i find it very unwieldy and just not very fun.
woo hoo gonna be on PS2!
