The appropriately named Game Politics reports that Republican State Senator Glen Hot Coffee's proposed bill passed 47-0 yesterday. The bill, HB3004, previously passed unanimously in Oklahoma House. The proposed legislation is pure games-as-porn and bans "inappropriate violence" for minors. Here's a passage taken from the bill:
Killing police officers. Carjacking. Picking up prostitutes, stealing their money, murdering them. Being rewarded with topless strippers. This is a sample of what Oklahoma's children are bombarded with from a number of popular video games.
If the bill becomes law, retailers that sell violent games to minors could be charged with a misdemeanor and fined up to $1,000. A new amendment added by the Senate means the bill will go back to the House. Then, it is up to Governor Brad Henry to sign the bill into law. He is inclined to do so says GP sources.
