Those of you who follow Pokemon fanatically know what a bitch it is to get your hands on a Manaphy, the legendary water Pokemon who can only be found via an egg transferred from Pokemon Ranger. Well kotakuite Agies has informed us that this Saturday from 12-3PM, Toys R Us stores around the country are offering the rare critter via in-store download, along with $5 off any DS game you buy when you stop by to continue your catching of them all. Otherwise you either have to trade or suffer through Pokemon Ranger, which is considered in some countries an advanced form of torture.

Has anyone who really wants this or any of the other legendary Pokemon in Diamond or Pearl not bought an action replay or other similar device yet? Seriously.
I don't know why, but Datel hasn't been sending us ANY Action Replays lately.
Hey, you jerks! I suffered through Pokemon Ranger for my Manaphy, and dammit, so will you!
@explodingmanMK2: In the Pokemon crowd that's considered a pretty unforgiveable sin.
I think that free Phantom Hourglass guide with purchase of game is much better deal.
@shiftomnimega: Oh yes, I feel real sad when I look at my friend's party of shiny legendaries and what not.
I heard about this last week and I am planning on going, thank god I don't have to get Pokemon Ranger for this. I hope this is a sign that we shall see more Pokemon to come our way, especially through that Wi-Fi mystery gift feature.
I'm going for that 25% discount on a $20 game I want to purchase. The only catch is I have to bring my Pokemon Diamond and let them give me a Pokemon. I can live with that.
I thought that Nintendo was banning those who used Action Replays with Pokemon from Nintendo Wi-Fi.
See, I have caught them all. I know I'm a loser. But, other than the guys you cannot get through the use of an AR (other than Manaphy), I got all of my guys legit. My Manaphy was taken from my cousins copy of Ranger, he beat it and I borrowed it for a day...
Thank god my buddy bought an AR so I don't have to say I spent 20 bucks to catch seven Pokemon.
@shiftomnimega:
Unforgivable, yes, but about as common as coveting your neighbor's wife among Christians.
And on that note, my plans Saturday just freed up. Work? Who needs it?
cheat devices = nub
I'll be doing this. Get a legitimate event-only legendary (yes I'm all about getting legit shit) and get $5 off a new DS game? Yes please.
I'm there. Please let me not be the only 30 year old there. Please.
So, how does this sort of event work? Anyone been to one of these before?
Sounds tempting... but the hordes of kids at my Toys R Us are probably going to scare me off.
@applekid , the first thing you do is choose a pokemon you don't want. There is a person there who has a special game straight from nintendo , who will trade the event pokemon for the one you don't want. I went to TRS last year to get a mew, and that's how it worked for me.
Does anyone know if this will happen in Toronto as well? I'd love to get me some more POKEMANS..
ARRRRSSEE!
Whilst I quite enjoyed Ranger,(don't judge me damn it just don't!) this really annoys me. I bought the game thinking it would be the only way I could get Manaphy and that when I had finished the game I could reset the cart and let my girlfriend play through it. It only took me 15 hours to complete the whole game and apparently you can't erase all the data.
I'm still smarting from my friends not telling me that there was a Pokemon event about 50 miles from where I live the closest it has ever got.
The sooner they can do this kind of thing online like they do for animal crossing the better, the U.K. gets screwed big time when it comes to this kind of thing.
Maybe I should go since it's on my birthday.
does this include canada?
I had to wait in line 90 minutes to get a Mew at TRU last year... but that was when you had to do the ol' GBA Link Cable thing (weblogged here: [www.fourhman.com] )
Here's hoping this year you just have to get inside the store's DS WiFi blanket and download.
@ohayou_kun: Likely not, seeing how nothing by Nintendo actually happens in Canada in the past like 6 years with regards to pokemon.
im definately there. hopefully my copy of diamond wont die on me within a week of getting manaphy, like my firered copy did a week after i obtained mew, and hopefully i wont be made fun of for being the only 21+ year old there
I actually liked Pokemon Ranger :(
Ugh. I played all the way through Ranger in two sittings to get my Manaphy, and by then I was so burnt on Pokemon that I never even used it :(.
My daughter would love this...although I was disappointed this afternoon to hear what she did via DS WiFi the other day.
She recently "discovered" that she could trade via WiFi and wanted to complete her Pokedex on her DS/Diamond version . She was so happy when she got a lvl 23 Poke -something or another - mon from DS/Pearl ( I really don't understand this game or its bizzarre language. When she talks anything Pokemon, I do not comprehend the words coming from her mouth). Unfortunately, she traded some legendary Poke -something or another - mon for it. She was happy, until I asked her some questions about it. Then all of a sudden she got despondent about it all after realizing that there are no "trade-backs" and I guess you cannot re-catch it again. Tough lessons in economics I guess
I know I'll be heading down to my local Toys 'R Us for this
still need to get that seventh badge....
If Toys R Us is smart, they'll have a couple of "Store DSes" available to allow people who may have a DS but don't have Pokemon to impulse buy the game and get Manaphy.
A friend of mine went to the all the way to the nearest Toys R Us (about an hour away) for the Animal Crossing event only to find that some dishonest employee (who was recently fired) had stolen the DS and game they were going to transfer the giveaway with! Hope this doesn't happen again...
WHY NOT IN CANADA!!!
Sheeeeeesh
