The rumored Warhawk expansion pack is rumor no more, with Sony mouthpiece ThreeSpeech confirming Operation: Omega Dawn will hit the PlayStation Network sometime this December. Doesn't sound exactly stuffed with content, maybe more along the lines of a simple add-on pack, as it features a new vehicle, the KT-424 Combat Dropship, and a new battlefield, the Omega Factory. Still, night time based battles sound very intellectually seductive. And I'm not even sure quite what that means.

WARHAWK EXPANSION PACK SOON COME! [ThreeSpeech]

Comments
I'm buying this day one of its release.
Maaaan i really wish i had a PS3. I want warhawk so bad. And Resistance and Ratchet and Uncharted aaaand thats it.
But still, those 4 games would bring me joy beyond belief
Is there such a thing as too many online shooters? I've stopped playing Warhawk once I got CoD4 and Im wondering how much time I can invest in these titles if I have a lot of interest in both...
And then I might get UT3... dammit....
@ArmyofJuan: Dont for get Lair!!
I kid of course...
Ahhh, just when I thought Halo got lazy with 3 new maps in their expansion, Sony goes ahead to prove me wrong. *sigh*
@WaterMedia: you never played warhawk have you? one map in warhawk =/= one map in halo. its more like one region, which has a few different maps in it
Dylan Jobe originally called this a "booster pack," so it would seem logical that the Warhawk DLC model will be a series of small updates rather than larger, full expansions.
@NumberONE:
i know exactly what you're talking about. When Halo 3 first game out i had some fun with that, but then orange box cam eout and i fell in love with TF2. So then i stoped playing Halo 3 and played TF2 all the time until COD4 came out where i fell in love with that as well especially since i earn shit the more i play.
It's so hard picking between my multiplayer games. It's like having 3 naked super models and you can only pick one to devot ethe most of your time with while the other two you just get to rub their bottom every once in ahwile.
@WaterMedia: like hass said...Warhawk maps are freakin HUGE. It'll easily be broken up into 2 or three smaller maps depending on the config. I'll be picking this up. As a matter of fact...I took a break from Mario Galaxy to type this. As soon as I finish, I think I'll play some Warhawk...
new vehicle sounds hot.. hope it can take a lot of damage before destroying though
If it is free then I think it would be really sweet, the problem with charging for multiplayer content is you divide up your user base. The game sounds a little over priced IMO, but add another map and vehicle for free and that would help round out the package.
@WaterMedia: ya but the scope and alternate use version of one warhawk map is much larger than 5 halo 3 maps
@WaterMedia: One Warhawk map is about the size of all of Halo's MP maps put together. Warhawk maps are extremely large. They are designed to be configured several different plays to scale to different game modes and player numbers.
@Pai Pai Master: The 1.2 patch coming next month before the expansion is supposed to include a Warhawk Store... no one knows for sure what it is, but people think they are going to go Korean style with having a store which people can buy stuff for Warhawk like small DLC... most likely stuff that has no affect on gameplay... maybe new skins, outfits, etc.
@Striderhayasa: Fun thing is when you get into the specific room types like CTF Lrg only and then play CTF in Variation rooms. Even the 32 player maps are altered a bit for game types.
The drop ship will be awesome in the full Eucadia map and Badlands.
@reallynotnick: It's a fantastic multiplayer game thats only $40. Not a bad deal when you got companies releasing multiplayer games for $60 and slapping a sloppy/shitty short single player onto it just to justify its high price tag.
@ArmyofJuan:
I have one more recommendation for you: Heavenly Sword.
Surfer girl predicted this... Time to give her some more credibility.
This better be free.
Looks like I found my calling. Drop ship Pilot. I suck with Warhawks.
@Black-Dog-Howls: you read my mind man, it's a thing of beauty in warhawk when you're playing with your squad and they all know what the fuck they're doing. Guys are getting loaded up in jeeps and tanks with warhawks over head...seeing the team rolling out deep ready to manhandle the other squad is a awesome. Incognito is going to give us a dropship to boot with missle launchers on it....dude, I'm so on this...
@TheSonicGamer: practice man. Go offline for a few sessions with a pal or create an online game with a friend and password protect it. have him shoot missles at you and learn how to dodge that way. Take some time to learn aerial tactics too and learn where your favorite weapons are. In no time you'll be taking out targets with the best of em.
@ARMYOFONE: Your need for the PS3 will be more frustrating once UT3, Haze, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, INfamous and Resistance 2 hit the market. Not bad for less than two years on the market.
@DigiMish: But is Heavenly Sword like a 5 hour romp? I'll wait till it turns not only into a "greatest hit" if they ever make those, but a USED "greatest hit"
@sascha23: first of all, it's Juan not one. Kind of a pun thing. You know, army slogan plus my name which people sometimes use in corny jokes like "what do you call to mexicans playing basketball? juan and juan" and then hilarity ensues.
anyways, those will all wait to be reviewed. im not taking any chances. Especially Killzone 2. Killzone 2 is like your friend that has a sore on their mouth and you think it's herpes but she keeps telling you it's a cold sore and it will go away.
@ArmyofJuan: Heavenly Sword took me like 7 and a half hours to complete on normal. You could possibly rush through it in 5 if your lucky, but people like to always claim the lowest number possible... see idiots saying its 4 hours even. Good game, but yea I would say wait for a discounted copy of the game as you will feel kinda cheated. Was a great game, just not enough there to be worth the money. Makes me hope for a sequel with actual length and replayability.
@ArmyofJuan: Heavenly Sword is an awesome game I suggest you at least rent it.
I never got hooked on warhawk, COD on the other hand level 50 but uncharted has taken me away from COD time.
@sascha23:
LIST LIST *eyes pop*
@ArmyofJuan: WH is a total blast. In my opinion it's a reason to buy the system. R&C was also a blast, the other two I haven't played other than in demo form. I don't dig gritty/realistic FPS games so Resistance isn't really something I would buy, but Drake's is next in line to buy after I finish Galaxy. I can't imagine Resistance 2 being a bad game though. Insomniac has pretty much so proven that they have PS3 development on lockdown.
@TheSonicGamer: Do what Strider said, and you should also avoid Dog Fight style servers. They give you bad habits. The best thing is to just learn where all the items are. Turn off Sixaxis controlls... and look up the different ways that people mention to dodge missiles. Personally, I use non-proflight, and I tend to double boost while pushing the right stick in a non-cardinal direction. That's enough to lose most missiles. Getting in the habit of using chaff on the fly is important too. Also, always shoot 1-2 missles first, then go for a harder lock on someone. That will usually get them to blow their chaff on the first two.
@ArmyofJuan: Actually, a cold sore is a type of herpes, only on the lips. But yes, I agree with you on Killzone 2, however, I'm fairly confident Little Big Planet and Resistance 2 will be great and are essentially already sold to me.
Can't wait! My Warhawk skillz are unmatched.
Except, when they are.
Clan B U S H I D O is recruiting. Add Kensai to your PSN if you're interested!
~
@TheSonicGamer: if you think for a minute this will be free, you're deluding yourself.
More and 'add-on' than an 'expansion pack'?? You have quantified definitions of each or something? I realize there's not much to write about here other than the release itself, but taking up space with semantics??
@Anemone:
Good tip with the missles. I fall for it all the time--no longer!
~
@Anemone: Damn soldier! I see they taught you well at the academy! Now give me 20000 pumps!
@ArmyofJuan: I played Heavenly Sword for about 8 hours and didn't finish the last fight lol. My timing is shit with the counters in the boss fight. I could counter a few, but would eventually be beaten down from not being in the right stance for each counter. You'd either have to be a pro gamer or to have played through it several times to finish it in 6 hours.
Killzone 2 is like your friend that has a sore on their mouth and you think it's herpes but she keeps telling you it's a cold sore and it will go away.
Like you said, wait for reviews. Assassin's Creed was supposed to be the 2nd coming, and Uncharted (a game most people dismissed as Dude Raider) is beating it in reviews.
Mind you, Lair was supposed to be good too. It got caned in reviews, but I've been unable to rent it (it's always out). Rented AC and COD4 instead (writing this because I just had my first lockup in AC).
/off topic
The update sounds interesting. I love Warhawk but other games have been pulling me away from it. Hopefully, the drop ship will be like the ones in Tribes where people can fire from them while in flight.
@Doshu:
I'm in the exact same boat. I didn't beat the final boss on HS. I bought AC and love it, in spite of lockups and glitches, but I can't wait for Uncharted.
Also, Tribes dropships were the shit. Ever since my Tribes2 regular server Miami Vehicles vanished, I needed something to fill the hole in my heart. Warhawk fills it, and this update will just add to that.
~
PS--add me on PSN: Kensai
I pissed so many people off above! Achievement unlocked.
But to be honest, you guys are denoting size with quality? Is that the standard you want to use with a $60 downloadable game that is multiplayer only? I'm guessing not...
It sounds like it is more then the pitch so hurrah to that, but still nowhere near enough to term it "expansion" relative to size.
@pearljammer: but it's not the bad kind if i remember correctly.
I just wish i could graduate high school again so i could convince my parents to buy me a PS3 as that was the only way i got a 360. I keep telling myself that i should wait until Home releases so i can get trophies which makes me wonder if they are going to do some sort of update to add trophies to all pre-home titles or they will just be sol.
But every time i go into gamestop i just go by the PS3 section an dpick up the case to warhawk and stare at it fo rliek 10 minutes while i dream up little fantasies on would could be going on if i was playing it
@Anemone: awesome points. I use pro-flight controls and usually I boost+barrel roll and then powerslide to allow your boost to recharge (don't boost AND powerslide or you'll drain it) then boost+barrel roll in a different direction. Powerslide again if your computer is still giving you a lock on warning. it works great against rocket launchers and swarm missles but it's always good to keep chaff handy because sometimes, opponents will double team you and attack in relay...(one swarm from one player then another swarm from another player)
I disagree with the Dog Fight servers though. That's where I truly learned how agile a warhawk is. I watched guys pull of maneuvers that are flat out beautiful and that gave me the example I needed to see what I had to learn. After a couple of days of practice, I was top ranking Dog Fight matches with honors.
@Doshu: dude, in heavenly sword, it's not your timing, it's the game. I was getting pissed off with that last boss battle not only because of the timing but because Bohan was cool throughout the whole game...a bastard but crazy cool...then he turned into a whinny bitch at the end. The trick is to do the counter early. Just when you think you're supposed to counter, do it a split second early to give the animation time to complete the motion. Also, the fire and lightning take two different counters. If memory serves, lightning is a normal or speed (i forget which) stance counter and the fire is a power stance counter. Heavenly Sword is awesome. Short but awesome and it's never leaving my collection.
Can't wait for it, gonna have to stop playing COD4 and Rockband and dust off the old Warhawk. This d/l will be sweet, heres to hoping it will be $6.99
WATERMEDIA-
"a $60 downloadable game that is multiplayer only?"
Dude The game is $40 on the PSN and at retail stores. The $60 one that came with the bluetooth headset was a limited launch edition.
@Striderhayasa:You're quite right, but the reason I recommend against is that dogfights are rarely like the 1v1 matchups that you'll run into during a normal game. I used to dominate on the dogfight servers then upon returning to CTF I would get trounced. It's just too easy to find a random tail to get on in DF in my opinion. But again, you are correct in that watching how others deal with your threats is a good way to learn. A quick tip if you do use dog fight servers to learn. Don't go past the half way point while you're learning. Once you do you're a prime target for 1v2+ and that is a very bad situation if you're learning. Once you get better going into enemy territory is a good way to test your evasion skills. Errr... that whole thing wasn't directed at you Strider, it sort of just flowed into it and I didn't know where to break it.
@Hiroken and slomo788: Thanks, I've played my share of the game.
Anyone who plays, please feel free to add me: Anemonee.
@ArmyofJuan:
Lol @ the naked supermodels vs FPS games comparison.
I totally agree with you.
Considering... not sure if want...
It's not that i don't want it, but with money so tighly budeted this time of year, i'm not sure i can afford it.
Who would like to chip in and buy ol' cell9 a PS3, eh?
eh?
@Cell9song: Not me! :D
DROPSHIPS! FRCKIN' ACES!
I'd love fast raids on bases with half a dozen troops in the cargo hold. Of course it's a very fast kill count to anyone who shoots you out of the sky with a full complement on board.
