Assassin's Creed PS3 Patch Due... Sometime

Following reports of random freezing and "white screens of death" in the PlayStation 3 version of Assassin's Creed, fingers pointed at the 2.00 firmware update as the culprit, Ubisoft writes that it's addressing the issue with a forthcoming patch. On the company's official Assassin's Creed forums, the UK community manager writing that an update to the title "will help improve the stability of the game and will be released as soon as possible." When? "As soon as possible." Can you be more specific? "As soon as possible."

No word yet on if that patch will address the double trouble of dealing with a pair of Altairs at once...

  • I could see Ubisoft patching the double Altair glitch and selling it back to as DLC... an army of Altairs filling the screen :D

    Good job Ubisoft. Hopefully, this patch will fix some of the framerate issues on the PS3 version.

  • @DigitalHero: Yes, because the Ps3 version has been reported as more stable framerate-wise than the 360, and we can't allow it to ever be superior to the 360 in any way.

    Though seriously, stop trolling.

  • They better not fix the double Altair glitch. It's so accidentally awesome it deserves to become a plot point in the sequel.

  • Good job Ubisoft...EA should take a clue...

  • @Kirbytheslayer: ...You realize that some sources peg the framerate as being significantly lower on PS3, right?

  • Where is the dual shock 3 support :( for AC

  • Daminit. Incessant patching and poorly realised release day bugs should be the exclusive province of the PC version! I demand that consoles stop infringing on our territory!

    /end sarcasm

    @Kirbytheslayer:
    Kirby, read what Moonshadow says. Then rethink your troll comment.

  • @Kuraudo: I agree :D
    @Kokuryukai: The 5 minutes it would take to put that into the game are being used to port AC to every console or computer known to man. Or at least, that is what past experience with Ubisoft would suggest.

  • @Moonshadow101: Yes, but just as many sources say that the Ps3 framerate is higher. It's not just a few minor sites either, but just as many big-name sites and reviewers.

    @DigitalHero: I stick with troll. Because I honestly doubt that you own a Ps3, based off your comments from the previous article.

  • "sometime" in ubisoftland is like a year.

  • Is the double Altair glitch even on the PS3? I for one don't really need the patch, Assassin's Creed runs fine on my Playstation triple

  • @Kirbytheslayer: Actually, he seems to heavily defend Sony to me, so I'd say its pretty safe to assume he may own one!

  • Image of DigitalHero DigitalHero at 06:02 PM on 11/26/07 *

    @Kirbytheslayer:
    What previous article? Are you getting me confused with DIGITALGUARDIAN? This is proof that you aren't thinking. DigitalHero is my PSN name and I'm currently playing Assassins Creed and Ratch. Send me a message on PSN and I'll reply. Point the troll gun in another direction or just shut up.

  • you know, for a while i was pretty bitter that this was delayed for the PC until 'early 2008' but now i'm just thankful that ubisoft had the foresight to have PS3 and 360 owners play test my title ahead of time.

  • @DigitalHero: Hey don't point in my direction. I've made no secret about being a PS3 owner. I've only just gotten a 360 3 days ago.

  • @Digitalguardian: Also, I own R6: Vegas on the PS3 that ubisoft said they would patch ages ago. So it doesn't inspire much confidence that they say they will do something when they haven't shown that they will do anything.

  • Image of DigitalHero DigitalHero at 06:17 PM on 11/26/07 *

    @Digitalguardian:
    Sorry, dude. Kirby is being an idiot.

    Thanks Furious_Liver for having my back there.

  • Thank Jade. =)

  • See, part of the problem is that they could have a working patch RIGHT NOW and because of the hoops that one has to jump through to get a patch released for a console game, nobody would be able to see it for at least two weeks. This is why comparisons to the PC just don't work; on the PC it can be made very simple to do even a minor patch (e.g.: Steam).

  • @DigitalHero: I wouldn't be so bold to say my username carries as much cache as Witzbold, but I do care about my reputation so thanks for apologizing. It's all water under the bridge now and we do have similar names. Wanna be PSN friends? It's the same as my username too.

    Draaaamaaaa. *sigh* Why I defend myself in public is beyond me, I just can't abide by people telling me there's no good games out for the PS3. I try to tell them I enjoy the crap out of Heavenly Sword, Uncharted and Ratchet, then listen to them tell me that the titles are too short, too few, or too horrible to be counted - and may the Halo god FORBID my saying that I find the game uninteresting to show them the view from the other side of the street.

    When did it become so hard to just enjoy games on a console? I suppose this is karmic revenge for all my negative comments about the Xbox.

    @Digitalguardian: You're probably right, but the thought is a tad depressing to entertain.

  • Been playing AC on the PS3 for about 5 hours now. I've seen one lock up (mid death stroke from a parry), and have yet to see any framerate issues. It seems to be runnning at about 25-30fps the majority of the time. If it runs faster on the 360, so be it, but I have yet to see the PS3 run at an unaccetable frame rate.

  • @weasl: 30fps is what both versions of AC run at, if 30 fps is not acceptable to you....

  • @Maldron:

    It's pretty much a moot point to argue with people about the PS3 libraries merits. This console generation is more akin to sports rivalry then anything else.

  • Image of Maldron Maldron at 06:41 PM on 11/26/07 *

    @weasl: But I hate sports.

    On the other hand, I DO have a Playstation Hat.

    It was free.

    From Sony.

  • @Kyle81: ...psssssst....

    30fps is what it's intended to run at. That doesn't necessarily mean it always keep to that goal.

    @weasl:

    When you typed that, did you have one of those pipes that blow bubbles in your mouth? Because I'm getting a really vivid image of that. "Don't waste your time, these RUFFIANS don't know what they're talking about!" Followed by several bubbles being expelled by the pipe, completely blowing the aura of aloofness and condescension.

  • @DigitalHero: Okay, I'll admit I was probably out of line with the troll comment.

    But I still think your comment is wrong.

  • @weasl: I borrowed the PS3 version of AC from a video store on the W/E and played it for about 12 hours. In total I had 3 or 4 lockups in 2 days and the only frame rate issues I noticed were when you performed the scan from on top of the lookout points.

    All in all, I thought the game was ok. The 85/100 on Metracritic seems pretty fair. If they implemented the missions better, I think it would've rated 95 or higher.

    I'm hoping they've been thinking of downloadable content. The guards need tweaking (to make it possible to assassinate somebody using stealth), they need more variety (and difficulty) in the way you gather intel and the combat is too easy/repetitive. I also noticed that some of the "moves" you practice in the training ring don't work anywhere near as well (if at all) when you try them against guards. I'm not sure if that's related to weapon choice at all (I was using the shorter weapon 90% of the time).

    Hopefully, they can resolve those things with an update. An "expansion" of some sort would be most welcome as well, but only if they expand on the game-play and not just add more of the same stuff.

  • @Kirbytheslayer: Only Gamepot said that the AC on PS3 has a better framerate. That was later discredited by one of the game's programmers.

  • I've played AC on both consoles and I own the PS3 version. I can't say much about graphics comparisons but the PS3 version is noticeably more framey. Almost to the point of being irritating.

    I'm hoping this eventual patch will do something about that but I won't hold my breath.

  • Image of DigitalHero DigitalHero at 07:32 PM on 11/26/07 *

    @Kirbytheslayer:
    Well, we can all have our opinions without name calling. Anyhow, you can disagree all you want buyt My brother in law has Assassins Creed on 360 and I have the PS3 version. The 360 appears much smoother in my opinion and its not like I want it to be either.

  • @Kirbytheslayer:
    your trolling?

  • Image of Shindokie Shindokie at 08:18 PM on 11/26/07 *

    Ps3 owner vs ps3 owner hmm no good. WEll hopefully this problem gets fixed. My friend has had issues with the game freezing. Don't know about buying the game. Can someone say something to convince me to buy it. I'm not trolling the game but i want to be sure since im short on money and seeing if i should buy this and not buy another game.

  • @DigitalHero: Np dood. n_n

  • Wait huh? WTF people, read what I said.

    I say that "the PS3 version has yet to run at an unaccetable frame rate for me" and you guys are jumping down my throat.

    o.o;;

    25-30 FPS is a completly normal framerate, with most games caping out at 30 fps.

    *shakes head and goes back to gaming*

  • Good news for me. I'm picking my copy up this weekend when I get an extra discount! Sweeeeet!

  • @weasl: Not sure if you're responding to my post, but I was actually agreeing with you. The PS3 version of AC has very few frame-rate issues that I noticed (and even then, they were very minor and didn't affect game play).

    The main issues I've had with the game are design / game play related.

    @shindokie: Not sure if I could say anything to convince you to buy it. I rented it, and won't be purchasing it until after I finish R&C (which I just got yesterday), Uncharted (not out here yet), COD4 (rented, but will definitely buy), Skate (still haven't purchased, but as a skater I loved the demo) and OB (provided it's not broken).

    I think AC's an enjoyable game with an awesome setting, artistic style and concept that fails in the implementation. It's fun, but becomes repetitive within a few hours of play. The wealth of excellent games really makes it much less compelling than it normally would be.

  • Good news, I hope it's sooner rather than later, it freezing on me everytime I start it up is starting to get to me (it's fine after a restart though).

    I rented the 360 version before I bought the PS3 version. The 360 version did seem to run a little better (and froze alot less, although it did freeze), but the only time you really notice it is on the view points and it does some massive screen-tear/jolting on the PS3 version, where there was none on the 360 version.

    Might be SD/HD settings (I run on 720p), if you don't have any framerate problems on the PS3 version what do you run it on???

  • Wow, I feel bad for the PS3 AC owners... I wanted to get AC for the PS3 at first because my 360 was getting spoiled with Mass Effect and my PC was getting Hellgate: London, but now I'm kinda happy to let it continue to cry tears of solder as I run PSone games on it (at least they're good ones, life FFVII, Legend of the Dragoon, and other assorted goodies).

  • I must be incredibly lucky. I have never had AC freeze on either of my 360's. It's been smooth sailing the whole ride.

  • Image of Maldron Maldron at 11:31 PM on 11/26/07 *

    @Leighroy: I never noticed any screen tearing while synching on my PS3 version... I have no idea why it seems so bad for some and only sorta bad for me.

  • The revenge of the port strikes again. I've not had a single issue on the 360, frame rate is solid, slight v-sync issues in some areas but not a single hang.

    The price you pay for Sony brand loyalty I guess.

    "Assassin's Creed PS3 Patch Due... Sometime"

    Me, back playing the PS3 version of AC after the games that came out last week.... Sometime.

    I really enjoyed it while it was in the drive, but Uncharted easily ejected it from my PS3 and Mass Effect took over my 360. Between those two and everything else in my library, I'm unlikely to go back until they fix the crashes. I know some people have been lucky in that regard... but I am not one of those people. Nine crashes on my PS3 which had suffered exactly, um, zero crashes previous to AC is enough to put me off my feed for this game until a fix arrives.

    I do want to finish it, though.

    @Malefic: Speaking of "the price you pay"... trolling carries it's own.

  • I thought they already patched this with the 2.01 patch. After that was added my AC ran fine.

  • @Doshu:
    The knife is fun, but what's better is the hidden blade. You can't block or normal attack, but the counter kills sure are rewarding -- heightens the difficulty a bit and gives a nice sense of satisfaction.

    @mindinrewind: Do you have that discredit source? Interested in reading about that.
