Taiko: Drum Master

taiko.jpgNamco's Taiko: Drum Master is pretty much like Donkey Konga, except with a different controller (pictured) and no nursery rhyme songs. "Taiko, what's that?" you may ask. Well, it's a big barrel-shaped drum, the business end of which looks like the controller there, except quite a bit bigger. So this game is all about playing a taiko along to music. The songs the game includes are about 60% pop, 20% classical, and 20% Namco originals, including a song from Katamari Damacy.

I think Namco probably should have included some more Japanese music that actually uses taiko for the U.S. release, but other than that it's tons of drumming fun at $59.95 (the game comes with one taiko). There is a two player mode, but an extra drum will cost around $40.
