David Jaffe's current independent venture, Eat Sleep Play, is already hard at work on its first project for Sony, an upgraded port of the PSP vehicular shooter Twisted Metal: Head On. Not content with the single colon in the original, the ESP team has added a second, bringing us the tongue twister title Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition. Jaffe gives us an early look at the game on the official PlayStation blog, showing off screen shots and a new trailer, the latter featuring a good hard look at Jaffe himself.
While the PlayStation 2 game may rival Tom Clancy and Square-Enix products with its extra long name, Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition looks like it will satisfy followers of the series with its copious bonus features and fan service.

Anyone still play these games?
So... a rehash of a 3 year old psp game?
This game is still gonna rock! Twisted Metal is one of the most fun series to ever grace the Playstation brand.
As long as they only charge like $20 for this game I think it will be a pretty big hit.
Am I the only one who has hated every twisted metal game after 2?
Word to the world:
Stop making PS2 games. kthx.
Well, I'm pretty stoked. I mean, it's not Twisted Metal Black 2, but it's pretty close. I've always said that TMB is one of the most underrated games for the PS2. With it's massive levels with changing weather, epic orchestral soundtrack and macabre grim story lines, it really set the bar at where most games aim. Pretty great stuff considering it was released so early in the PS2s life.
Ack! Last time I post something before seeing the trailer. This game looks like one giant step backwards in the series...
Ohh... I can't wait. Sad its not coming to the PSN, but reading everything he wrote about what they've add'd to the game, just gets me excited.
So the obvious question: is it going to be backwards compatible for BC-enabled PS3s?
Wait they're letting Jaffe make a PS2 game? ...Seriously?! Apparently Sony has a lot of faith in the good ol' PS3.
I wonder how long it will take before a lot of Korn-loving, wannabe-psychopaths fill these comments up with praise for the new TW. Just how twisted is it...oh that's right EXTRA TWISTED (better get your faux-barbed wire bracelets out now kids).
Man, Twisted Metal Black was one badass game...some of the cutscenes made me fill my pants. Awesome!
Even for a PS2 game, that screenshot doesn't look particularly hot. Especially since Jaffe made God of War, an extraordinarily good-looking PS2 game.
@Stormrider900: Do realize this game is running at 60fps right?
The PS2 is sticking around. Credit Guitar Hero for opening up the door to a whole un-tapped group of non-hard core gamers who want to play but don't want to have to take out a second mortage to buy the hardware to do so. A lot of PS2s have been sold since the 360 and PS3 hit the market.
As for the actual game, any mention of online play?
@Dimipapa: I'm with you there. Black wasn't bad, but it lacked something compared to the near perfection of TM2.
@Kyle81: A port of a 2 an a half year old PSP game had damn well better run smooth on a console. Doesn't mean the graphical assets look any better.
@irkedpenguin: If it's one step closer back to TM2, than it's a good thing. That was the best of the series. I can't wait until a version of Twisted Metal comes out for the PS3.
I love that the arrogant ass that is Jaffe is stuck making a Twisted Metal game. He is such an outspoken critic of other games, and he is trying to improve on demolition derby.
I really miss Vehicular Combat games.. Twisted Metal.. Almost like an old lover coming back. But with a few wrinkles..
It's the one real thing I have actually excelled at..
Anyways I will buy this game just like all the others. And that will just be because of being a fan of the series and wanting to see more vehicular carnage...
But I would seriously like to see.. a new Twisted Metal Game. Hopefully with better story lines than that of TW:Black..(They were good, just there was no balance..)
Actually I would just like to see a well done Vehicular Combat game on the next gen systems..period.. Although the Twisted Metal Series really does hold a special spot in my heart.
Vigilante 8.. Miss it..as well.*sigh*
None the less over all great news.
Plus Now that down-loadable content is picking up, rather that new games, you could just download new features and weapons.. I believe it would be pretty awesome! and probably would not cost the company as much money..
Yawn. Call me when they make another Vigilante 8.
Never liked Vehicular combat games unless they were centered around tanks, motorcycles, or aerial vehicles.
Basically its a remake of a remake of TM2 for PSP?
@thereturnoftheufo: speak for yourself. i'm not a fan of twisted metal games but i will still buy new ps2 games if something worthwhile comes along. not everyone has $250-$500 just to be able to play current gen games.
why is scea wasting their time making twisted metal game for the PS2 when the PS3 kinda needs it more? Twisted Metal on the PS3 would be nice to have... so why the PS2?
@gamingpalooza: While I want a PS3 version of TM, if the delay is that they are making sure to make the game good, I'm ok with that. Even though I want Gran Turismo badly, I'm ok with waiting because I know that the delays are to keep the quality high and making the game the best it can be.
I love the Blues Brothers reference on the side of that car.
@Dimipapa: Amen. I haven't enjoyed any of them since TM 2.
@zorin2k4: Thats a sharp eye you have there.
when will we just let the ps2 die....its over sony please just move to the ps3...hell I don't even have a ps3 and I wish theyd stop making games for ps2
@lifeinthefridge: They're probably not going to stop supporting it until they stop making money off of it.
@lifeinthefridge:
A: The PS2 MAKES MONEY for Sony...
B: Sony has committed to at least 2 more years of support for the PS2
C: They are testing Jaffe to see if he can still make a real game after that pos "Calling all cars"
I confess to having enjoyed Twisted Metal 1 and Twisted Metal: World tour on PS1. Me and my buddy used to play 'em to death in 2 player co-op. The graphics were ghetto and the games were short, but they were pretty fun games. I used to love running over Mr. Grimm and his little black motorcycle.
...If only this were a next-gen installment of Twisted Metal, then I might get a little excited, but for this, all I can say is "meh".
damn it man they should stop wasting the time on the ps2 and move on to ps3 they would be making some pretty good ass titles if they focused on it more...but oh well
Better title: Twisted Metal: Head On: Apply directly to the forehead
Who cares about this stuff? Jaffe is so wasting his time with this.
