Nintendo Holy Empire Dominates June Hardware Sales

The NPD Group has released hardware sales figures for the month of June, with the Nintendo DS and Wii crushing the competition with a combined sales of over 943,000 units. Sony's PlayStation 2 and PSP showed very well, selling around a quarter million units each—PS3, notsomuch. Here are the NPD hardware sales figures for June, including Game Boy Advance and Xbox 360 numbers.

  • Nintendo DS - 561,900
  • Wii - 381,800
  • PSP - 290,100
  • PlayStation 2 - 270,700
  • Xbox 360 - 198,400
  • Game Boy Advance - 109,400
  • PLAYSTATION 3 - 98,500

Update: Please note that the earlier figure of 230,100 unit sales for the PSP has been corrected.

Total hardware sales for the month, industry-wide were $398.6 million, up 34% from the previous year. That doesn't include an impressive $161.3 million for video game accessories, which was up 58% from June 2006.

The only downward trend in the hardware business was in relation to portable gaming hardware which dipped 6% from the previous year to $130.6 million in sales.

In 2007, the video game industry has seen $2.3 billion in hardware sales alone, a huge increase of the $1.37 billion in hardware sold at the same point last year.

We'll have software sales information up soon, with reaction from hardware manufacturers shortly. In the meantime, start making your stock sales/purchases and trolling choices now.
