Japan-based reader Matt, who actually came up and said "hi" at the Yodobashi Camera Wii launch, send word of a personal project that's been keeping him busy for several months: A 3D model of Nintendo HQ. Matt writes:
What I did was I made a 3d model of Nintendo of Japan's HQ building with Google Sketchup using reference photos I took on site. It took awhile as I became quite anal about accuracy to the point where I ended up revisiting the place several times, once with a tape measure to measure the outer wall's bricks. Good times. No guard came out to question me fortunately. That would have been awkward. I'm going to upload it Google's 3D Warehouse shortly even though I feel like it's still work in progress. There's a limit to how accurately I can manage to model the place considering the restricted access and the fact that I can not fly.
The fact that Matt actually measured the brick walls himself just makes this so much cooler.
