  • Interesting . .FFXIII got the same number of votes as Xbox360. I thought Japan loved FF and didn't care about Xbox?

  • at least the 360 was in the magazine.

  • Go Nintendo!

  • PSP died...

  • Wow...the 360 has two in the top ten and the console is one of them. Maybe Blue Dragon is doing what MS was hoping for.

  • Erm! Why is the PS3 soo down the list?
    Where is the PSP???

I thought Japan was crazzy about the MIGHTY PS3???

Sony needs to lock up Krazy Kaz and Kenny, stop talking trash specs AND TALK ABOUT GAMES!!!

    Hard times ahead SONY!!!

  • Didn't we already go over the fact that Famitsu is a sham of a magazine? Why even report on them?

  • do those "votes" represent 1000 polled? cause 15 votes or even 412 do not seem like much participation.

  • It's safe to say that Nintendo and Sony still have a firm grip on Japan and the 360 isn't changing that.

  • Nevermind my first comment, I see that this a poll of the readers of the mag, not a review of some sort. I is sorry

  • Who do you think are more deluded? The 28 people who think the 360 will be a break out success or the 28 people who think FFXIII is comming out this year?

Not nearly as much hard times Microsoft has ahead of them.

  • So what are the games coming out for the Nintendo Wii that gets 412 votes?

  • "So what are the games coming out for the Nintendo Wii that gets 412 votes?"

Mario,Zelda, same old First-party titles Nintendo has been releasing for years...

  • Lol, the Xbox 360 is up there!

    Go xbox go!

  • So what are the games coming out for the Nintendo Wii that gets 412 votes?

You forget the main purpose of the Wii. To browse Kotaku on its Opera and find the weather.

  • Touching *IS* good.

  • Famitsu is not a sham of a magazine; it's actually probably the most respected gaming magazine in the world. Also, this isn't just their picks; it's a poll (of mostly industry people, hence the small numbers). Anyway, what really surprised me here is seeing the DS system in the third slot. I mean, how the heck can the DS possibly break-out any more than it already has?! The DS needs to be disqualified from lists like this already. We all know it's huge in Japan.

  • Fuzz says: Interesting . .FFXIII got the same number of votes as Xbox360. I thought Japan loved FF and didn't care about Xbox?

    Nope, Japan loves Dragon Quest.

  • Reply to above:

    Japan also loves Nintendo.

  • @ slacker164

Well if it is industry people and game makers polled, it doesn't surprise me the DS is on there or the cheap to develop for Wii. It is all about their bottom dollar and profits.

  • Slacker:

Most respected? How? Especially after there was an article on Kotaku about a month ago describing how the ratings system for the games the review is based on what the companies tell them to rate the game?

Also, notice my second comment. I was wrong about this post, as it is a poll

  • @ EnigmaNemeis

"Well if it is industry people and game makers polled, it doesn't surprise me the DS is on there or the cheap to develop for Wii. It is all about their bottom dollar and profits."

That's what happens when you force developers to spend way too much on games that probably won't make their money back... They turn on you.

  • "Most respected? How? Especially after there was an article on Kotaku about a month ago describing how the ratings system for the games the review is based on what the companies tell them to rate the game?"

I'm wondering the same thing. Considering the high scores they've given games like Red Steel and Sonic (both were terrible)you begin to wonder what makes them such a well respected magazine...

  • @B33

Maybe in Japan, but not overall. The 360 has captured the cool factor that the console audience wants, and their sales will reflect that in the coming months.

  • Amazing. The Xbox360 beat out both FFXIII and MGS4, argueably the only two franchises that might save Sony. And Blue Dragon made the list. Things are looking good for the 360 in the land of the rising sun.

  • @ EnigmaNemesis

So the only reason that the DS is on there is because Industry respondents bumped it up? I mean, number 2 on the list *couldn't* have nothing to do with it...

  • Personally I'm happy to see Monster Hunter Portable (Freedom in the US) 2 on that list. It's a PSP title, so making a 'breakout' list still means a little something. Even if it is at the number 10 spot, being the number 10 breakout in Japan is still beating a LOT of other crap.

At least it will be easy to find and buy if they decide not to translate it. They did that with MH2 on the PS2 and quite a few fans were unhappy with that decision. I'm wondering about Monster Hunter Frontier though, which is the PC version. Not coming out this year, or just not considered a big deal?

  • Surely the Ds is broken-out already? Its nearly surpassed gba sales already I believe. Also seeing the sales for Dragon quest monsters on the DS 641k, makes me believe it will be DQ9. FF3 on DS sold around 504K in contrast btw. I imagine DQ9 is going to be insane.

Im impatient so im going to post this here even though I sent it as a tip as well.
The-magicbox has the sales data for the ps3 in America in 2006. Its sales were 600k, notice its 400k less than Sony's shipped. Thats almost half of them unbought.
''Morgan Securities revealed the console hardware sales in US in the month of December 2006, Wii is leading the sales with 1.3 million units sold.

    Wii - 1.3 million
    Xbox 360 - 1.2 million
    PlayStation 2 - over 1 million
    PlayStation 3 - 600,000 ''

  • That misewell Say Nintendo #1, 2, and 3 oh and here is everybody else. Since it has Nintendo's new console, followed by their biggest handheld game in Japan for this year, and then it has Nintendo's Handheld itself. I wish that the Sony fan boy's would just stop their whining.

Sony based the last 2 console gen's based on good strategy and decision making, well that and 3rd party support. Nintendo is doing the same thing this generation and as the Wii keeps selling like it is the 3rd party support will naturally come also.

Face it Sony got overconfident in it's own brand name and bet the farm on graphics and Blu-Ray. That was the wrong move to make because it hurt developers by making development costs rise to huge new levels, it hurt consumers by making the price much to high for most people to accept paying, and all that is hurting the Sony brand name big time.

Sony is striking out big time and they are too blinded by past success to notice and that will be their downfall this gen.

  • Zim -

    Uh...

Let's just see what you posted, eh?

I've bolded the important part you seem to have missed. 600K in December + the numbers we saw in november(which is 250K at launch and then smaller shipments) and you can easily be at that 1 million mark Sony has said.

  • @Wpack911

The Playstation 3 isn't only about graphics though. It's about multimedia, improved AI, bigger games, better quality, etc. Blu-Ray was meant as a way to expand games. Sony is just trying to get the format to catch on with movies so it has some support. If it fails at movies, then it's not a total loss since games are only getting bigger every day. And Ps3 development costs are not nearly as high as you make them out to be.

Sony isn't going to die this generation. If you think that, your an utter fool. Sony might not be in the lead this generation, but they will certainly have a good foothold. And the PS3 will sell better once the price drops.

  • Well done adeptvoice you pass the test >.> IT WAS A TEST!
Ahem yes anyway my bad, launch shipments were estimated at 150-200k. It then only really came back in stock in December, or perhaps there was one restocking in November? Either way it seems as though its going to be pretty far off 1million. Perhaps 800-900k?

  • Good for you 360, you matched Final Fantasy XIII!

  • Oh noes if a system doesn't have a killer app coming (well, Wii has a couple coming in 2007, but you couldn't be a snark without it) it must fail!

Nevermind everyone I know who owns one still plays Wiisports like a maniac.

  • Wow another comment from "someone" bashing the Wii.
    *Yawn...

  • If the sales data posted above(for Dec.) is accurate that'll bring the PS3 up to just under 800,000 sold from launch to the end of the year since the official total for November from NPD was 197,000. Really though I don't think this means much; we'll still have to wait till next month for the NPD numbers for January to really see how well the PS3 is selling. Why? Two reasons. First, Sony shipped 1 million by the end of the year. That does not mean they made it to store shelves. It means they packed up the boxes and sent them on their way to stores. It makes sense to assume some of these units were sent out very late in the month and were thus still on boats and such (Best Buy stockpiled thousands for their Jan. 1st sale) when the month ended. If that's the case, then it's not actually possible for everything shipped to be sold, so they couldn't possibly hit the 1 million mark. The second reason is that for the month of December the PS3 really was sold out in most areas. There were spotty reports of stores here and there having them in stock, but it was nothing like it is now. Personally, I never saw a PS3 in stock during the month of December despite going to stores like Best Buy and Toys R Us, etc. fairly often. While I'm sure there were a few sitting around by the Dec. 31, it probably wasn't a whole lot, so the December figure should be very close to what actually hit store shelves and probably limited by supply due to higher demand areas being totally sold out. However, January is a totally different story. My local Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, and Toys R Us stores all have PS3s in stock, and plenty of them. Whatever Sony sells in January should not be limited by supply, but a good reflection of the demand (which seems rather low).

  • So the only reason that the DS is on there is because Industry respondents bumped it up? I mean, number 2 on the list *couldn't* have nothing to do with it...

No smart guy, the list isnt a poluarity contest (though it appears to be now), it is supposed to be what system will have a break out year. The DS has already done broken out.

Thus the flawed list is more of a popularity contest than what it is supposed to represent.
