Before I got the magic beams of WiFi invisibly oscillating through the air of my apartment, I couldn't have cared less about Opera for the DS. But now that my router is irradiating me with ominous WiFi beams (of which the full horrible knowledge of my future offspring's WiFi-related deformities I still remain blessedly unaware) I can't wait to give it a go. My mind constantly cogitates around a single question: How little can web browsing on the DS suck?
According to one of Opera's own IT guys, it sounds like the answer to that question might be "very little." Jon of Opera IT has posted a review of the Opera DS prototype. The Dual Screen mode (in which a smaller version of the full web page is displayed on the top screen, where as the bottom is a zoomed-in, draggable rectangle) continues to sound like an excellent usability compromise. But no handwriting recognition? Boo, Opera. Boo.

If the browser only reads Kanji when I order it from japan, by god i'm going to learn how to write Kanji.
I'd love to hear more about use of this product outside of the Japanese region. Does it use English or have any region specific coding related to web browsing that makes it unwise to import? If this info is readily available I've not seen it yet.
So what's the import-ability of this product? Lot 'o Japanese or not?
I rather browson my computer to be hounest, but maybe they could put a phone or a skype function in the DS?
I would imagine it'd work fine. I'm currently checking Kotaku using shift-JIS encoding. Aside from a few slight problems with some combination of characters (only when it comes to punctuation marks) producing kanji it reads just fine.
I would just wait. A US release has been mentioned as coming. I do believe the US version has been previewed so it should come out a few months after the Japanese online release.
