Is it possible to buy all the Famicom games? We mean all, including that copy of Super Mario Bros. with characters from radio show All Night Nippon that was given away at raffles. On a recent episode of Oriental Radio's TV show Shuukan Oriraji Keizai Hakushou, comedians Nakagawa-ke attempt to find out. Trolling Akihabara and online sites, they are able get 1043 of the 1051 games — being unable to locate titles like the card based Datch games: Datach Ultraman, Datach SD Gundam, Datach J-League and Datach Dragon Ball Z. (Some of those Datach games are available over eBay.) And the total cost? Eight games short, their bill was ¥1,350,261 ($11,095). That averages out to about $10.60 per game, which, you know, isn't too bad if you've got money to burn.

And I thought I my NES collection was huge.
Cool. Maybe 10 or something years from now, the whole collection of Famicom games on the Wii's Virtual Console will only cost $1,109,500 Wii points.
Whoops did my math wrong! Only $11,095 Wii points! (lol, I overthought it)
Math is lame.
1043 games? That's sick. I love it.
And so many of them are so so so shitty. Being forced to play through every single one until I can beat them all consecutively without dying would be my hell.
Did they ever mention how long this took them? I'd be interested in that and if I followed along with the clip, they got 858 along from Super Potato alone...right?
The bigger question now is what will they do with all those games?
*peeks at eBay*
I looked at that photo, and felt kinda let down.
In my schoolyard youth, Japan was legendary as home to an immeasurable amount of Nintendo games. To see them all laid-out on the floor like that puts things into perspective.
"That's all of them, right there. Every last one, aside from eight."
It makes it look like not so many after all...
Had I the money to waste, I would so do this.
@Link_the_Collector:
And you're wrong again...
NES/Famicom games cost 500 Wii Points, not 1,000...
So, to download every Famicom game would cost, at minimum, 525,500 Wii Points (¥525,500). Which, by how Nintendo sells Wii Points in the US, would cost $5,255 (roughly, varies if you have to pay tax or not).
Plus, there are the oddities that cost more for various reasons (like TMNT for 600 Wii Points)
@lunarworks: Well, this IS just Famicom games. Not Super Famicom games. So yeah, include those and then it's a REAL Nintendo collection.
But where are the BOXED versions eh? I think that might make this a little harder/stupidly more expensive...
@lunarworks: I totally agree! I always thought as a kid that in Japan, the famicon games flowed in abundace like rivers of games and that it would be almost impossible to get every single one of them...
But how about the ps1 games? I bet there are more than the Famicom ones...
So, since I did not understand the clip, was there any mention of why they gave up without the last 8 games? Did they have a time limit?
@OneLetter: It said in the clip that it took them over a week. At least at one point they said "one week later."
That is so hard core. :D I love it!
They can't have all the Famicom games because I still have a few at my place.
