Bandai Namco "Not Aware" of PS3 Eternal Sonata

B000GJ5FHI.09.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Tri-Crescendo, the Japanese developer behind Eternal Sonata, wanted to make the game an Xbox 360 title from the get-go. While the studio had previously worked on GameCube title Baten Kaitos, the Wii was not the platform of choice. According to game site Siliconera, the controller and the graphics made bringing Eternal Sonata to the Xbox 360 a no-brainer. What about a PS3 version? Publisher Bandai Namco told Siliconera that it was "not aware" of a PS3 version at the moment. How could it not be aware of that? It's friggin' Bandai Namco! The Japanese box for Eternal Sonata (AKA Trusty Bell) doesn't have an "ONLY ON XBOX 360" stamp on it. Thus, the game should be treated as such.

  • So....do I have to get a 360 for this or not? I'm still confused. XD

  • I'm actually REALLY looking forward to this game. I played the demo and fell in love with it.

Even better if it's a timed exclusive. I want a lot of people to play it, regardless of platform.

  • @Lyner:
    Willing to bet it's timed.

  • I love confusing corporate speak. I think there is a decent chance that it will come to PS3 for 3 reasons.

    1. ESRB filing for a PS3 version.
    2. No "Only on Xbox 360" on the box (same as BioShock).
    3. They aren't denying that it will be on PS3 and are using indirect language.

  • Well this RPG does make sense to go on the PS3.....

  • If it is ported, hope it doesn't become another Madden 08.

If they want to make a cent back on development costs in their home country there has to be a PS3 version.

  • @jackdoe:

It isn't made by EA, so that shouldn't be a problem.

  • @ashcraft:

If it is timed, chances are the port is a long ways away, I don't think they could had got too far with the port without it being leaked.

  • By law, all JRPGs must be on the PS3!

  • It may be a timed exclusive, however a game will always be best on it's original system. Some examples include Rainbow Six Las Vegas or Resident Evil 4 on GC versus the PS2 version. It's also not a big deal if it's a timed exclusive due to the fact most people won't get an xbox just for this game. If people want to get an xbox they will want it for Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Infinate Undiscovery and other Mistwalker RPGs. In terms of the Bioshock comment, it would be hard for me to see that game on PS3. Microsoft has made a big deal about this game and it's also coming out for PC. In my view, Bioshock will only be a Microsoft game coming out for PC and Xbox 360.

  • @ashcraft: im hoping youre right. willing to make any katamari bets, or no?

  • @Ashcraft - Ha! You're right about the box art not having the only for Xbox 360 logo on it. The US box art is the same way too. When I asked a different rep at E3 I was told ES was Xbox 360 only too. But like you were saying it may be a timed exclusive. Then on the other hand MS said it was an exclusive in their conference while Beautiful Katamari wasn't. Confusing!

  • @ARboom: They could always port it to the Wii, lol.

  • Well, the shitload of jRPGs coming to the 360 his fall will make the system a no-brianer to pick up before this year ends so I guess I'll be picking this baby up with Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

Still wish it was date-in-date with the PS3 version, though.

  • so maybe after their lacklustre backing of the ps3 namco are slapping sony in the face for destroying the games industry.

quote: >>> "Japanese game pubs jumping from Sony to Nintendo

The biggest third parties in Japan are throwing their support behind Nintendo in a big way. Namco/Bandai, Sega and Capcom are all increasing both the number of distinct titles and the number of units ordered for games on Nintendo systems, according to research done by the Nikkei newspaper and reported by Variety Asia. Namco Bandai alone is planning a ridiculous 115 games for the DS and Wii in fiscal 2007, a 109 percent increase. Sony, meanwhile, can expect a 30 to 40 percent decline in shipment orders from the big three, according to the report.

In more potential bad news for Sony, the Variety article off-handedly mentions that "Square Enix ... has no plans to develop titles for the PS3 until sales improve enough to make the steep development costs financially worthwhile." This seems to confirm earlier reports that the company wouldn't release any PS3 games until the next fiscal year starts on April 1, 2008. Deep breaths, Final Fantasy fans. Just remember, patience is a virtue."

  • A timed exclusive for 360?

  • @Lyner:
That depends on when you want to play it I'm thinking. If you want it before or around Christmas I'd say certainly you need a 360. If you want it later... maybe you won't.

@akuma587: Why'd you throw in the Bioshock comment? It's coming out for the PC at the same time as the 360 so obviously it isn't a 360 exclusive. But coming out on the PS3? Sorry, i'm pretty sure that's wishful thinking on the parts of PS3 owners who don't own a 360.

Much like my fond wish for... Huh. Well, I wouldn't mind Final Fantasy 13 on the 360. I guess...

  • The Esrb has this one listed for ps3 aswel as xbox360 doesn't it bashcraft ? in fact I remember a kotaku article listing it as so.

  • ive been wanting this ever since ive laid eyes on it. but after hearing it's from the people who made baten kaitos...... maybe it should stay on the 360.

  • Its logical not to speak of the -possible- other version for business purposes.

IF the PS3 crowd knew a PS3 version was under way they'd probably not sell nearly as many copies as they'd want.

Either way Im still set on saying its a timed exclusive; they havent said its xbox 360 exclusive.... hmmm.

  • @cannonfodder: sorry, you lost me at "for destroying the games industry".

@bnpederson: you might be right, but ive been told it started multi-plat and has been hinted at as a timed thing since; i havent really seen anything concrete either but its not uncommon for me to see talk about it here.

  • This is clearly gonna come to PS3.
It's not gonna sell well in Japan (It's on 360).
It'll find a niche following elsewhere.
They won't get back development costs. It comes to PS3 where it will find a fair following.

The no exclusive tag kinda proves it.

  • @TheIrishNinja: I'm assuming Katamari was originally planned multiplatform but programming difficulties/large-hunk-o-cash made them cut the PS3 version. Right now I'd guess they aren't working on a PS3 version but might resume it depending on sales.

Also it's nice that most of these good 360 games can eventually be played on the PC or PS3. Otherwise I might actually have to buy one.

  • Well, remember... Dead or Alive 4 didn't have a Xbox 360 Only sticker on it... It's just the CHANCE that it may come because it is indeed a 3rd party title... It basically means that developers and publishers want to watch how it does, and if it does well, they'll leave it at that, but if it sells 2 copies day one... well, no brainer what will happen =P

  • Via wikipedia

"Although the Japanese version of the official Xbox website lists it as "Only on Xbox 360", as of April 23, 2007, the ESRB's site listed it as being rated T on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.As of this writing, there have been no official comments regarding this event, so it is not known if the game is a "timed exclusive" or if this was a mistake on the ESRB's part. On April 25, 2007, however, the game was removed from ESRB's listings completely."

  • @ARboom: They don't have to make it back in Japan. They did sell around 50,000 copies the first week of release there. That is a very small amount for a retail title, but they don't need it to be big in Japan. Namco might have some other group port it, but Tri-Crescendo doesn't appear to be the sort of developer that would be porting games based on what I found on wikipedia. They are more likely working on a sequel.

  • For some reason Trusty Bell really reminds me of Radiata Stories, which could be good or bad. Good because I loved Radiata Stories, and bad because it seems so similar that I can't get excited for it.

  • microsoft is doomed, halo and all, there is no more halo after halo 3. what will they have then?

the ps3 is the best built next gen console.

Time to buy a ps3, and wait for them to fix your 360..
    -----------------
    Notice anything?

  • @Hexfix93: Mass Effect, Alan Wake, future Gears games, Lost Odyssey, Cry On...

Was this a serious post? Did I log into GameFAQs by accident?

  • @david78: Bullsh*t. The game's sales beat out Ninja Gaiden Sigma's in it's opening week. Not to mention, the title still remains one of the 360's top sellers in Jpn and there are still US and European sales to look forward to. Namco's been fairly satisfied with ES'/TB's success as of late. Do your research before you start venturing off.

    @Hexfix93: Halo Wars :P

    dumbass!

  • @ashcraft: Shouldn't the real question be....

Why is Gamestop/EB games taking reservations on a Item that isn't properly rated by the ESRB. obviously someone is holding something back.

  • Image of Witzbold Witzbold at 04:25 AM on 08/17/07 *

@Sento_Naninaki: Gamestop takes reservations for ANYTHING. ;D

  • "According to game site Siliconera, the controller and the graphics made bringing Eternal Sonata to the Xbox 360 a no-brainer."

I'm curious.. what about the controller impressed them so? The colorful buttons? What made that Xbox 360 controller so damn right for RPG's?

I'm betting it was the groundbreaking inclusion of not one, but count them, TWO analog sticks!

Or perhaps it was that suspiciously round D-pad.

  • Hexfix93 I will not miss you when you are banned and gone FOREVER.

Anyway, I like timed exclusives more than pure multiplat atleast.

    But real exclusives ROCK.

Thinking about it, if exclusives get companies to sell lots more consoles, if more users get both consoles, isn't that really good for them in the long run?

  • PLEASE PS3 for the love of god

  • If the game isn't a big hit in the west, then it will get ported for sure. Game sold poorly in Japan

  • Image of Witzbold Witzbold at 06:10 AM on 08/17/07 *

@Harpa: The dude is already banned and gone forever. ;D

Yeah it would be nice to get a PS3 port, just on the fact that the team behind the game would be able to make more profit from it, therefore being able to develop more great games. :)

Asides from that, theres nothing wrong with it going over to another system, since in the end everyone wins.

  • If they're smart, they'll try to distribute it to more than one audience. Some people are obviously willing to spend $600, then $60 on a game, so why not make one that got good feedback from a 360 demo also available for owners of PS3s? The only reason they wouldn't do it is if they're one of those who scientists predict will supposedly die out in the next 200 years. Jk, of course.

  • My guess is it will come to PS3 sometime next year. It probably isn't launching on the system because of the low Japanese userbase, which will be higher next year. Also, this game won't only sell in Japan. I think it will be popular in the states as well.

    Is good enough for me

  • Funny how there isn't a massive fanboy eruption when the game in question isn't MGS4 - or any PS3 title, for that matter.

Could it be that Xbots actually know how to behave? Unlike SDF.

  • Its at least a timed exclusive, 360 fans know that since they've been hounding on this title for a while now. The demo really shines and I look forward to this game. Quite your bitching and just buy a 360.

  • @mackzilla: Heeeey, would you look at that. Though, remember Resident Evil 4?

@david78: I think it's actually doing kinda' well over there.

  • @shaunomacx: you REALLY think that the unwashed masses that flock to a FPS are going to start playing an RTS just because the word "Halo" is printed on it?

    well........

  • Image of Witzbold Witzbold at 07:03 AM on 08/17/07 *

@jfx316: If you can see hundreds of little master chiefs tea bagging the bodies of the dead Covenant horde then maybe...

  • I.m quite happy with my 360. I still see no point in getting a ps3 yet.

As long as good games come for the 360, like Eternal Sonata i'm happy. They could make their games for the ps3 or saturn or 3dfx, i couln't care less.

    4 days till Bioshock...

  • I was under the impression this WAS exclusive for 360... The general audience of 360 users seem to steer towards the American-developed games. This game could help PS2 owners see some more "international" flavor on the 360, but if it happens to be only a timed exclusive, than a lot of people who are waiting to buy a PS3, will be buying it around the same time this game could be released multi-platform.

  • @beem: maybe you should do yours. yes trustybell placed second in sales beating ninja gaiden by just 3,000 copies. It had many pre-orders in anticipation but the week after it dropped from second to 35th place and has sold shittily ever since.

That being said I enjoyed the demo. But with all the other games coming out in september I doubt ill be picking this one up right away.

  • I wouldn't mind this coming to ps3... i feel so dirty playing RPGs on Xbox... especially these cute ones. *Goes to saw people in half in gears*
