And by Halo History Pack, Microsoft of Japan means a "Platinum Collection" package featuring both Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 for a paltry 2,980 yen (about $25 USD). Microsoft is readying the super-budget two-in-one Halo History Pack to get Japanese gamers—okay, Western ex-pats—hyped up for the Xbox 360 release of Halo 3. The double pack, with built-in backward compatibility updates, ships to Japanese retailers on September 12.
Sick to death of hearing about everything Halo yet? You'd better get out of this chickenshit outfit now then, buddy, 'cause it's only going to get worse.
Halo History Pack [Xbox Japan]

It's seems a bit odd that they would release it for the orginial xbox. the 360 has a small enough audience as it is but now there trying to attract orginial xbox owners in japan? do they even exist in japan?
Nope ... bring on more Halo goodness!
You secure that shit, McWhertor!
I don't see this doing much good. If anyone in Japan has an XBox already I doubt they need to be turned on to Halo as they probably own it.
"The double pack, with built-in backward compatibility updates, ships to Japanese retailers on September 12."
Seems to be destined to both consoles.
I thought this same type of pack (non platinum) already hit our shores a few years back. Woulda thought they would already have it... A little late to the party MSofJ?
I HATE HALOOOOOOOOOO ( the universe around it and the single player campaign)
THE MP , i dont hate...
If it weren't for these damn neural implants you'd be a smoking crater by now!
I kind of like that case....
*shudders*
Must resist import...
@sinny: What don't you like about it, I'd be interested to know why you'd feel so strongly and "HATE" it?
Keep bringing the Halo news bitches.
@sinny: You hate HALOOOOOOOOO?
-_-
Anyway, I think this is pretty awesome. Does anybody know if this is two seperate discs, or if they're on one special disk?
"You'd better get out of this chickenshit outfit now then, buddy, 'cause it's only going to get worse." LOL Yeah the next 2 months are going to be ridiculous. The demon will be EVERYWHERE !
@Zeouterlimits:
i dont like the designs , i feel like playing army man, or something like that. The characters are like toys. That its the main reason.
The second its that i never liked the story, i felt that the game was rushed ( the two games actually, but specially halo 2) and that there“s no context. I never felt the halo game to be an universe with this aliens and all the stuff, and the war....
and third , its always the same thing over and over again... zone - kill all the bad guys - open door - another zone - kill -door-zone ...and the bosses were more dumb that the common enemies
But the multiplayer its great , its the best console MP out there , by far. That only its a reason to play and spend money on the game.
Oh shit, thats cool. :D Considering that I wont have to break out my old Xbox to play through those games again. I might just pick it up seeing how the price is right.
As much as I hated the indoor design, just for the sake of nostalgia Ill buy it.
Ah, if only this would come stateside. I almost picked up Halo this weekend. It was $10, and $30 for Halo 2.
For all the folks who think this is for the original xbox, it clearly says:'with built-in backward compatibility updates', so it's for the 360.
I don't HATE Halo, but I don't understand it's popularity. To me it doesn't have anything that any other FPS doesn't have (& I LOVE FPS) but it does have annoying, gnome like giggling aliens - which is just silly. I played the Halo3 Crackdown demo & yeah, it was ok - but not worthy of much hype IMO.
@CheechWizz:
Uhh, that means it's for the original Xbox, but you can play it on the Xbox 360.
ugh... worse.... ]:
there is such a thing as too much halo. and i hit my limit back when halo 2 came out.
@eternalplayer2345:
Little do you know that Halo 3 is one of the top games on famitsu's most wanted list. Japanese wanting american game? Naw, couldn't be possible....
interesting bundle, while im no halo lover by any means I did have to leave all my xbox games back in the US. Trying to find a copy of halo/halo2 here in japan isnt exactly easy and ive been meaning to give them a try again. This gives me reason to do so, even though I already have the second one sitting in the US.
@StupidDufus:
This pack already came stateside years ago.
As the Halo Triple Pack
[www.lovefilm.com]
@EbulaJonez: I'll scrap you along with the aliens!
Don't care since we got a better package.
@Riquez:
Because it's fun. That's why many people love Halo. Game doesn't need to do anything new to be considered a great game.
Halo stories are the new iPhone stories.
even if people wanted to go for this, 2 weeks is hardly enough time for people to explore what made halo 1 or 2 good. halo 1 was all about system link, and halo 2 was all about throwing your controller at the screen after getting killed by people far superior following your 15 minute wait for matchmaking. co-op was fun too, but halo 2's stupid vertical splitscreen made it low on my list of co-op games to play. i hated that i had to change it to 4:3 to get a horizontal screen.
@Kemuri: Its hard to take that seriously considering the MC is your icon. ;)
I kid, I kid.
Yeah the game is great fun in MP Halo 1 more than Halo 2 though. Halo 3 is better than Halo 2 in MP
Halo 1 > Halo 3 > Halo 2.
@THAKINGROCKA:
Wow, your disc must have been screwed up then. I don't have a vertical split-screen configuration while I play Halo 2 co-op.
Also, 15 minutes to start Matchmaking. Um, where exactly do you live? Antarctica? (j/k)
But I get a match in less than five minutes.
@Witzbold:
WOW... just WOW.
It makes sense the game didn't have huge sales records in Japan and it's probably not in stock at any retailer. Give the people in Japan chance to play the first two games before they 3rd comes out if they want to at a reasonble price.
Hearing about Halo all the time is annoying, but it's a breath of fresh air compared to hearing about Mario or Zelda all the damn time. Keep more of this coming, please!
I don't understand why they're promoting a Halo value pack in a country that doesn't give a damn, though. Instead of the promoting the non-successful games like Halo, focus on ones that did do well (Gears, Sonata, Blue Dragon).
@okenny_unbanned: wow in a good way or wow in a bad way?
I only based the Halo 3 mp assesment from the MP beta, but it still by far was more fun than I had in Halo 2. Just because halo 2 felt more like a spamfest than the original Halo.
I still think Halo 1 had awesome balance.
Halo 2 kinda sold out to the automatic weapon crowd a bit more.
Halo 3 felt more balanced than Halo 2 which was all I needed to be convinced that Halo 3 will be fun to pick up. :)
@freeway8989:
Honestly, I foresee a 30 second match making average with 1 minute being on the high side. I say this because the beta showed some really promising numbers in those range. I'm guessing 3 Million Live subscribers will be playing this with 500,00 playing it religiously.
NOTE for people who think MP is hard: balance is so much better. I was ranking last in games till I learned to use my malay attacks then I held my own fairly easily.. from 1-3 kill/match to 17-21 kills/match on high-ground with 8 players on first till 25. So give it a try again >_<
@Do Kesubei: Its better seeing them do something than nothing at all.
Its to help build the hype engine, for those who have an X360 but never bought an original Xbox, and for that price with 2 games included I say its quite a tasty treat for those in Japan.
Dont knock it just because you think people dont care. Take a step back, put away the blind hate and look at it from a bit of a more objective view point.
Halo 1 and 2 did sell rather well in Japan, and managed to make a little name for itself, proof of this is that its on one of the most wanted games in the famitsu.
Gears is harder to market in Japan due to many stores not being able to show vids of it and what not because of the violent content. It was the same for Dead Rising also.
Eternal Sonata had enough coverage as is with all the stores constantly playing the trailers before the game came out, so whoever wanted it most likely bought it already due to the visual saturation people experienced while in stores with an X360 display, the same for Blue Dragon. So theres no need to pimp them further, and it hasnt been nearly long enough / sold enough to call for a reprint budget version of those 2 titles.
The tumbleweed rolls across Japan
@Witzbold:
...definitely wasn't in a good way. In fact, I was floored and could just say... well, "WOW". I also said that because I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion and since I never played Halo 1 (Jumped in on Halo 2), for all I know, Halo one might be the greatest thing ever made... I plan to eventually play it myself. The thing that I found so amazing about Halo 3 is that it was remarkably balanced. No matter what you picked up... had a chance with it. A weapon that killed in one shot as usable as an assault riffle. Halo 2 didn't have this feeling. Also, I could actually improve dramatically by learning the game without having to acquire an autistic level of expertise and Halo 2 didn't have that. From what people said about Halo 1, it seems that some MP aspects were broken in Halo 2 but to the point that the improvements that were made in Halo 3 from halo 2 is not enough to say that Halo 3 is an improvement over something 4 years old is well... a hard sell.

@okenny_unbanned: May main problem with Halo 2 was the fact that it was more of a spray n pray game, which was kinda irritating since Halo 1 felt by far more balanced with its weapons. Even though people bitched about the pistol being a minature sniper rifle.
Although I think it was perfectl fine, since if you dont really take the time to aim and choose your shots its not like you are gonna last all that long. People just didnt like the fact that good peeps were just too damed good with it.
The whole dual guns thing in Halo 2 felt more rushed than planned out, which is why I think it wound up turning into the weird SnP fest.
One fun thing in Halo 2 was doing the bug with the rocket launcher + sword. Lock on with the rocket launcher, then switch to the sword quickly and attack. Instant kill from across the screen, since its like the lock on attack with the sword, cept you can do it at uber long range. Although I think a patch fixed that.
Thankfully it seems like the devs listened to all the problems people had with halo 2 mp and fixed it in 3.
Yeah try out Halo 1. Its seriously by far more fun than Halo 2 was. I played more on the PC version than the Xbox version though, since the little extras in the PC version won me over into buying it.
I would just like to say I laughed my ass off at the final paragraph.
And people wonder why everyone says that Halo is overrated.
God damn Halo 2 goes for $25 USED over here.
Took them long enough to make that.
@Kemuri: But some people don't think it's fun. Get over it.
