anyone got this yet ? Does it really tweak the graphics ?
The regular game was so huge that I never did more than a few side quests and some arena fighting. I can't be the only one that thought the game was so big that they ended up doing far less.
Though, I don't care how huge Mass Effect is, I'm going to play the hell out of it.
I just got my computer to the point where i can play this game on Ultra High everything at my top resolution, so I will be picking this up on the PC.
@justhesh:
Er.. I think that's probably just you and maybe a few others.
@NewAgeArcade:
Will you stop that? It's spam.
Oddly I didn't see it under "New Releases" and had to go to "all game downloads.' Downloading now. 25% there. Very cool of them to release this before they pull the plug on XBLA. The next few days = no sleep, no life.
Oh I'm sure he knows it's spam.
Anyhow, this game was awesome but did run a little long for me. It's too easy to get sidetracked because everything is so addicting. I started using the dupe trick just so I could get to the ending a little faster.
one question, Ive never dl'd something that big on xbox live, if it disconnects half way through (my colleges net sucks) do you have to start over?
I'm at 58-60%
Time to clock in another 100 hours...
I just got 1,000 in Oblivion last week, I'm done with that game. That, and I would need to buy more than one points card for this expansion makes me mad.
I've got my copy of Oblivion 360 on its way right now, hopefully it arrived today. I'm probably not gonna jump right into the expansions at first because I gotta make sure it can keep my attention.
Oh, and can we get a ban on that spammer?
Awesome, first thing I'll be doing when I get home from work. Can't wait! =D
2400 seems a bit steep, but If it plays well then it'll be worth it. Added achievements help Bethesda (in my head) for the reasoning of dropping $30 on a game I already spent $70 on. If all games were as massive as Oblivion, no one would bitch about the standard $60 pricetag anymore.
Are there still horrible load times associated with the 360 version of this game? That's the main reason why I stopped my 40+ hour save.
It isn't available yet - not for everyone anyway. The post could have made that clear...
@DeadPlasmaCell:
No, not really. Contrary to popular belief, it is not, in fact, a small world after all.
YAY!!
This makes me deliriously happy. I absolutely adore Oblivion and the expansion looks brilliant. I was completely expecting it tomorrow, getting it today is just awesome.
Oh, and to the person above asking if it made it looked better: Actually it was the patch released earlier this week that improved the look. It's not a huge upgrade, nor did it really need one, but the textures are noticably sharper and the lighting is a little spiffier.
YAY! *squirms with delight*
Game gods are evil and want to take away my social life! Eh I'll play it anyways.
PS: Hey, SpiceMan, I like your icon. That comic is great.
@justhesh:
Perhaps.. but this is the first time I've seen someone complain that the game is "too big"
wait, holy hell, its out already, i thought it wasn't supposed to release until after tomorrow's update!!! I have to run home!.
@mackprime: the last update, version 1.2, that was released last week updated the 360 LOD shaders, so now things far away don't look like ape testicles. this release is just the shivering isles expansion, ie, there is no patch except for 1.2 released last week.
Damn. I hate the microsoft points system. I wish they would just use dollars and not 1600 points costs you $20. Does anyone know if they have a 500 point. I have 300 already and dont want to buy 800 points.
I didn't see mine in recent releases. Be sure to look under the "All Game Downloads" section too.
@seasponge: they have 250 i think
@@ seasponge
I fill up points at xbox.com, as opposed to the little cards. They're in 500 point increments, as opposed to the 800 point ones at stores I guess?
Sign In, Manage Profile, Add Points.
Theres a 500 point option right there.
I have some 800 point xbox live point cards laying around. does anyone know if these ever expire? I know that if you leave points on your gamertag too long they can expire after some time, but I'm asking about points on the card that have not been added to a gamertag yet.
@3inst3in: Microsoft said they will NEVER expire (read the FAQ on xbox.com about points).
As for the cards, they infact DO expire. The original ones from launch have already been replaced at stores.
took 1hr to get to 10% download... jesus, Im not gonna make the 3am deadline.
Damnit... I have to figure out what to delete on my Xbox360... :( I need a bigger HD
Anyone ELSE think it's a lie, that 30 hours of gameplay are included? 30 seems a lot... o.o
a gig??? I need the dang 120GB HDD and I need it now!
cool, thanx scazza
It froze twice trying to get this to work, but it seems to be working fine now... not a big graphic upgrade but I only played maybe a half hour or so... might've looked a little better, but I haven't played recently so I'd be hard pressed to notice a difference.
I love you Kotaku! Downloading now. :)
Hope I get 3am as well...not looking hot.
@DeadPlasmaCell:
Oh, I'm not complaining. The game is good, albeit overwhelming.
Wow, I would not have known (and thus had to wait) if not for you guys. Nice job!!!
Did any of you play it yet?
Wow! Can't wait to download it, once the price drops. Too bad it's 25% the content @ 50% the price of the original game. For $30 I need a disc and some pretty pictures on a box. For downloadable content, I can't justify more than $20 for any one thing. Too bad, it looks awesome.
@mackprime:
I'm pretty sure you don't even need to download The Shivering Isles to get the shader patch. Last time I fired up Oblivion there was an auto-update (this happened to be on the same day the PS3 version hit retail, btw).
I can't be completely sure- but I'd be damned if the game didn't load a little faster, have a much improved draw distance, and though I heard nothing of it anywhere before- the npc humanoid character models' textures looked just a wee bit sharper to me, especially in the clothing/armor department. Oh- and the frame rate is like butter compared to before...
Can't be completely sure, but I've put over 250 hours into the game over the last year, so I'm really used to looking at it, warts and all. Besides, it would only make sense for Bethesda to offer for free to 360 owners what's essentially free for PS3 folk with the retail version of the game.
I hate you guy's living out on the East coast! I have a 2 AM deadline before they crash the servers!
fortunately I've only been downloading for 7 minutes and im already at 10%. So i think im going to be ok.
Its going to be something to do during the blackout, BUT! there is something that is bothering me. With oblivion, i thought you needed to be connected to live in order for DLC to show up. at least, thats how its been with the past things they have released.Because if this is true, this is just going to suck.
@Mortified Penguin: no, thats not correct, I never play connected to xbl, and all of my dlc works fine. even shivering isles which I just played
Granted I've only had my 360 and Oblivion for about a month, but I don't know if I'll ever complete the basic game, much less need this expansion. Oblivion is absolutely massive...
@DeadPlasmaCell: I second the complaint on it not being "too big", but being too in-depth. I feel like there's just too much for me to actually be able to make a decent dent in the game, and it's overwhelming and somewhat frustrating.
On the "too big" side is GTA San Andreas :P.
@3inst3in: w00t! Thanks!
Is anyone else having problems getting the expansion to work? I downloaded it- and it even says in the option's under downloads that i have shivering Isle- But its not showing up in my quest log- or i dident get any pop up thing like i did with all the other downloads. It took awhile when i first boot up the game and the "loading extra content" windows pops up- took a minute or two.
what should i do?
Hey guys, sorry for the triple post (lolz)
Just want to clarify, i guess you get no confirmation, at least i dident. I had to go outside bravil and you will see the gateway- THEN i got a message.
w00t! i was afraid i was going to have to download it again- and that wouldn't have worked tonight- since the xbox live maintaince.
Anyway-
Happy gaming!
on the dot of 8am the download finished...5 minutes or so later xbox live went down
the graphics have already been tweeked in last weeks update,and if you had 100% in oblivion,well after the download it goes down to 80% because of the 10 extra achievements that was with the update...but you need the download to get the actual achievements
this expansion(and there is meant to be 2 more downloads for this expansion in the near future)is gonna be sweet
God damnit, I checked an hour before maintenance and didn't see it up! Graaaaah!!
@aelfin:
Right. I've always been one of those "Check every barrel, read every bookcase" type of RPG gamers (I don't know how many times I've read the line in Magic Knight Rayearth about having small breasts). And that's damn near impossible to do in Oblivion without going mad in the process.
